“Great location”
Reviewed 12 November 2008

We used this hotel as a base for our Cairns holiday, purley based on trip advisor reviews. The staff were very knowledgeable of the tourist attractions and book them all without fuss. The location, I must admit, was second to none. Very clean (only blemish was marks on the wall) We had no need for our car, with Cairns city centre a few blocks away. We had intended on using the apartments facilities to cook our own food, but gave up after the first night because of the wide variety of restaurants nearby. I would recommend this place any all as a central location for island cruises and town activities. We already planning our next trip here, less the car.

I recently stayed at the Mantra Esplanade twice on a scuba diving trip to Cairns. On both occassions I was given an ocean view room even though I only booked a city view. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and layout of the whole hotel, it was incredibly well maintained, clean, neat and tidy. My hotel room was beautiful. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. I loved the fact that I only had to walk out the door and across the road to the boardwalk and lagoon pool.. and there were oodles of eateries right alongside. The hotel adjoining the accommodation has great cheap meals and we even received discount vouchers as well. I booked direct with the hotel and saved on booking online.

Stayed at the Mantra Esplanade in late September for 2 nights. We stayed on Green Island and the hotel is very close to the Ferry so we were able to walk to the hotel with our stuff. Check-in was quick. We booked directly for a quiet 1 bedroom suite with an ocean view and got room 601.

The living room was spacious with a full kitchen. We had a washer/dryer in the bathroom which was great although the bathroom looked a bit worn. Bedroom was very tight (bed took up most of the space and the small television was mounted high on the wall). Terrace had a nice view of the Esplanade, the marina and ocean.

Although there is a small outdoor pool, our son preferred the huge lagoon pool on the Esplanade which was a five minute walk.

Did not have breakfast in the hotel but did get coffee and pastries in the chocolate shop in the lobby. There are lots of good options for food right outside on the Esplanade.

Some negatives:
TV remote in the living room was impossible to use.
Elevator required use of the room key which was a real pain as it always took us several tries to get it to work.
Never saw anyone to help with luggage (which would be a problem if one had lots of stuff)l
Needed to pay to use the room safe

Otherwise, it was a comfortable stay but there are several options around Cairns.

We stayed for two nights at the start of our holiday.. It was a perfect base to explore Cairns and was right in the heart of the city.. We had a higher levle room which was great, giving us a bit of an ocean view even tho we hadnt paid for it.. The room was clean and tidy and newly refurbished (except for the balcony which was a little grubby underfoot) and a good size..

However the front counter staff were fantastic and made our stay easy and fun.. Its right opposite the lagoon on the esplanade and is close to lots of fabbo restaurants and coffee shops for brekkie and dinner etc..

The pool area is pretty and linen etc good quality.. an easy hotel to recommend to stay in..

This hotel is located between the Esplanade and Abbott Street. The rooms facing Abbott Street are exposed to noise from three sources, two sources generate noise late into Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and one source that generates noise 24/7.
1. The Courthouse Hotel, plays loud music and is located directly in front of the Mantra Hotel.
2. A huge open air theatre screens movies and sporting events, directly in front of the Courthouse Hotel and on Saturday nights the theatre runs a $2.00 sausage sizzle that attracts a huge crowd.
3. Plant equipment, located to the side of the Courthouse Hotel, in a fenced area with no roof that generates noise 24/7.

My room was located on the fifth floor behind the Courthouse Hotel and despite wearing earplugs my sleep was disturbed by the noise from all three sites. I have travelled extensively throughout Australia, over the last 30 years and in Europe over the last ten, and stayed in hotels in the heart of densely populated capital cities, and the Mantra is the noisiest hotel I have stayed in. This is the first and last time I will stay at this Hotel Chain.

Mondos restaurant at the Cairns Hilton serves excellent food, is very good value for money and is located in a beautiful setting.

During our extended stay in Queensland we stayed twice in this hotel and in both rooms we were given the impression given not just by its frontage location but by room cleanliness, general layout and room size were above average. I would certainly stay here again but certainly would not feel the same without the sea view. The staff were most helpful and the ability to walk out the door and be in the middle of Cairns was a bonus. Out the door turn left and the 'Banana leaf restaurant' was one of the best meals we experienced in 3 months.

Stayed in a 1br apartment for 5 nights and we were most impressed. Apartment was a good size, clean with adequate kitchen facilities to cook some light meals. Staff were very helpful and friendly at all times. In a great position with the Esplanade at the front for all the water activities and a pub at the back of the property serving good, cheap meals. Woolworths supermarket just 50 metres away for convenience. Nice pool and heated spa with plenty of deckchairs. BBQ area near the pool was clean and easy to use. Parking was underground and easy yo get in and out of.
