It's not a very modern sort of hotel but the view from the sea facing room was to die for. In fact I read a review on trip advisor and booked it the moment I read about the view. It is a bit of a walk to the ferry terminal but then walking on the Esplanade whose complaining. We had booked into a one bedroom sea facing suite and had requested for a higher floor. So the magnificent sight. The rooms were clean but the furniture is a bit tacky and old. Would have appreciated a duvet with cover as I do not think the duvets are washed after every use. And was uncomfortable with the fact. There's no cooking stove but only a microwave. So we picked up cooked stuff from Woolworths and were set.. It is reasonably priced too. The wi-fi is only available in the lobby and restaurant we were told. Staff was helpful and courteous. Really value for money.

Room Tip: Take a sea facing room on higher floor

A little older than other hotels, but very clean with great amenities and right on the Esplanade with views out to sea. Just what we wanted. Free wifi is good. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The room price was very reasonable and was a suite with a living room/kitchen area and a separate bedroom

Stayed at this hotel twice, first time for one night, second for three nights. Both rooms were very clean. Staying three nights the second time gave us a deal. Views awesome, even city-side looks out to rainforest. Side view gave us look at both rainforest and harbour.

Free wifi is available in the lobby, which is a plus. The location of the hotel is along the Esplanade, but a short walk from all of the chaos. Very quiet.

Additionally, the staff could not be nicer or more helpful. They answered every request and question, and gave us great recommendations for dining.

Stayed at Cairns Plaza Hotel for 4 nights. The staff are exceptionally helpful in booking trips, providing recommendations on places to visit and advising on road direction. Very good and commendable customer service! Excellent location as well. Eating places (open into the night), night markets, pier, esplanade boardwalk, lagoon etc are within walking distance. Room is big (bedroom, living room, balcony and a kichenette) but furniture is a little dated and limited TV programmes. The restaurant in the hotel - would give it a miss.

Overall, a good stay and value for money.

Room Tip: Request for higher floor rooms. Do away with breakfast option if you need to pay extra (you get better breakfast in nearby reastaurants/ food outlets).

We stayed at the Cairns Plaza Hotel for 3 nights as recommended (and booked in advance) by the official Cairns Tourist information office en route from Hong Kong to Alice Springs. Good, quiet (almost) seafront location 5 minutes walk from lots of restaurants, bars and the "lagoon" and 10 minutes from the harbour. We took the Kuranda Scenic train and Cableway daytrip to see the rainforest and cuddle pandas; also a daytrip by catamaran to the Great Barrier Reef - both booked through the Cairns Tourist office (not far from the hotel). The hotel was a little drab (we'd been spoilt by a luxury hotel in Hong Kong!), the outside swimming pool was unheated and cold and we shopped in Woolworths and ate our own breakfasts in our room as the hotel (AUD10) breakfast seemed poor value.
