We stayed here on our last night before leaving Cairns. The hotel was in a good location and was clean and tidy. The decor is a little outdated but was probably amazing in its day! the pool was nice but not heated (fine for a quick dip). I found the hotel a little noisy at night i.e. could hear doors closing but still slept fine. Would return to this hotel for a short stay again.

Don't get me wrong, we loved the Sheridan (with Horizon Club) but we honestly had to ask for everything twice!

As we were on the Horizon level we cannot fault the room and it's amenities. The bed was soft, the pillows cushy and the toiletries (L'Occitane) delightful! The bath (and view from it!) was a treat we don't get at home. The night 'turn down' service was an extra bonus too with a bottle of water each and a toiletries refresh. The Horizon Club canapés and drinks (daily 5pm - 7pm) are worth attending a few times but bring nicer clothes (they give you the dress code upon arrival, not the day before when you're packing your bag!). The Horizon Club breakfast was good too, we had three breakfasts however the food was the same every day.

Our "ask twice" policy started upon check-in when they stated they would call us when our room was ready. They didn't, we were close by so we went back in and guess what, the room was ready. Next, they said they would send our bags up, after 30 minutes we called to get our bags sent up. Then, on our second last day (Saturday) we had the "Please make up my room" sign on the door from 10am - 4pm only to get back to an un-made up room! When they came, soon after us arriving back at 4pm, we requested they come back at 5pm whilst we would be out, they didn't, and came back at 6pm, we had to send them away again and ask for them to come back....... When leaving the hotel on Sunday morning we were witness to one of the housekeeping staff being "told off" in the hallway about not doing his job properly. This explained the events of the day prior however I was sad to see that happening in a public place. Finally, we called to have our car brought up at 10am on the day of our check-out, when checking out we were advised our car hadn't been brought up yet so waited. Then realizing we could see our car we approached the concierge who had brought it up and handed over the keys! Oh, we had another incident with "reef towels".... but surely you've got our drift!

Because of the mix-up on arrival we were provided a bottle of wine and a change to more "modern" room, a lovely gesture.

Despite the questionable service, considering the price paid (!!) we would recommend the Shangri-la.

Room Tip: We were in room 42, it is a loooong corridor but a superb room, above average view and large balcony...

The Shangri-la was the perfect location for a weekend minus your car, a pleasant walk along The Esplande to a variety of restaurants and cafes for reasonably priced meals. A nine block walk to Barlow Park but a good watering hole at The Jack half way there. Easy walk to the casino and other Pier restaurants only wish we had discovered the Salt House Restaurant earlier maybe next visit. Dundees restaurant excellent value and good service. Enjoyed the fact that the hotel was located right near the Reef Terminal for day tours to the reef. The Staff at the Shangri-la were more than helpful extremely polite and attentive to our needs. Our room very nicely appointed but would upgrade to the Horizon Club next visit and perhaps a deluxe room. Really enjoyed our stay.

We bought a last minute deal , so were given a room at the end of a very long corridor, not good at our age. If you can, get a room with a low number, ours was number 42. However, the wonderful staff at this Hotel more than made up for it. The food was very good with fresh fruit and pastries and a basic cooked breakfast, which is included in the horizon club deal. If you need to leave early, you can get breakfast at the North restaurant between 6am and 7am at no extra cost, after 7am you can pay an extra au$10 . The horizon room is a more pleasant service though.
The rooms are large with a superb bed and pillows. The floor tiles could do with the grout cleaning but otherwise OK.
The location is the best being by the marina , lagoon and easy walk to shops and nightlife. Plenty of restaurants, shops and bars at the base of the hotel.

Room Tip: Low numbers on the horizon club floor are closer to the lifts.

Smaller than sydney shangrila and without that Harbour bling factor but still eminently enjoyable. Got a good value rate for interconnecting rooms for family with horizon access. Must say though that horizon club location lacks that specialness due to its aspect being the parking lot.. Err... Apart from that all good!

Stayed at the Shangri-La, Cairns during the weekend of the Cairns Ironman Competition. This hotel is definitely not up to the usual Shangri-La standard. The room while adequate, is hardly luxurious - I had the Deluxe Sea View Room. You can tell it's an older hotel. The bed was beginning to sink in the center, bathroom has rust stains and chips on the tiles at various places.

Staff service was friendly, not many amenities within the hotel itself. A nice pool with a bar and another bar/restaurant in the lobby. But the surrounding complex has shops but not exactly buzzing with activities.

Location wise it's great. Close to all the actions. But not sure if I'll go back again with the prices they are charging for the rooms.

Room Tip: Some sea view rooms are facing a helipad which can be noisy when the helicopters takes off and lands...
