You get what you pay for. The hotel was one of the cheapest ones we found in Cairns. Room is very basic. And cleanliness is bit poor too. The hotel itself has nice big area with a good size pool. But it seriously needs a good renovation. It is around 15 mins walk from the city and esplanade. So the location wise not bad.

After reading some reviews we were a bit worried but no need to be. You get what you pay for, our room was clean but old and probably in need of some decoration but we had a good time here and it set the friendly tone for our Northern Queensland holiday. The manager was helpful and managed our very late arrival with ease. The breakfast was wonderful and the pool looked good.. didn't get to use the pool but was nice that our room overlooked it. Met some nice people at the hotel who helped with our holiday plans. Queenslanders are very friendly. re Cairns itself it was much better than we expected, a very nice city with a great marina...we will stay longer in Cairns next trip to see some of lower North Queensland

The location is good. The room service food was really nice.
We stuffed up our booking and the lovely manager helped us out, she was fantastic!
The pool looked great, but we didn't get to go in.
The room is a typical motel room, however for the price it's worth it.

In all honestly, after reading some other reviews of the place, we didn’t go in there with too high expectations. A lot of what was said was true, but I think you have to put it in context: it’s budget accommodation. Conceded that it’s neighbours a bit up the road did seem to win out in later comparison in certain respects, but I still wouldn’t discount this place entirely. Its positives include: very friendly staff (reception & cleaners); new linen; good walking distance from beach and city; nearby shops (for food, drinks and other); and a great pool! Points to be aware of: there is limited car-parking; the rooms are not overly secure; TV and cable is good for a glance but not really set-up to watch for extended lengths; and it is an old place and thus can only be “polished up” to a certain degree. Overall, take it for what it is - budget - AND if you do choose to stay there, aim/request rooms in the #50’s as they are the ones with balcony’s around the pool.

Thank you for your honest review.
As a budget priced older property, we endeavor to offer clean reasonably priced accommodation with a pleasant outlook over the pool and garden area with as many services as we can practically provide to guests for the prices that we charge. We have one of the top ranking occupancy rates of hotel/motel in Cairns and a very high percent of repeat guests which can only be achieved by offering value for money, good service and respectable rooms.
We only sell resort style rooms which are in the area you mention on the internet, so anyone booking online will be assured of a room located around the resort style pool area.

First impression not good with drunks outside of their room watching us walk past. Bar was serving an underage boy shots, whilst my husband was trying to check in. Girl didn't even know where to direct us to our room, another patron had to direct us. As you can tell by attached photo, doesn't give you a good feeling when you enter the room with a warning that you should latch your door shut when inside. Chain was broken anyway. Have never stayed in a motel where there is a chain on the window as well. Light in bathroom flickered then stayed off.Curtains were hanging off their hooks, large dents in the wall near the bed and light next to bed wasn't even working. Later heard on the grapevine in Port Douglas that it was known for being a very seedy hotel in Cairns, where a family should definitely not be staying.

No one serves under age drinkers - with the liquor licencing laws in place in Qld, all bar staff must have completed a Resonsible Service of Alchol course and abide by the law as they are personally liable for very heft fines - no one would risk this!
For extra security, door chains are provided on both the timber entrace door and the glass sliding door to the swimming pool.
Guest comment cards are provided in the rooms for guests to notify of non working light globes or any other maintenance issues and we appreciate being informed of the room number and problem so we can ensure it is repaired promptly.

Well i have fallen for the WOTIF con again - this RAINBOW INN is not only out of date - but dirty and broken down. Plus there is a very strange scam with credit cards going on here. I arrived to be met by a friendly reception person - I prepaid 2 nights with a BIG braekfast - then i was advised i would have to pay $100 bond for the room - i thought this sus - but presented my Credit card/Debit Card which she refused to accept - i asked why she said they dont accept this type of card - I advised her that every other property i stay in accept it as to restaurants and airlines across the country and world - her tone then changed and she advised me to give her anothe card - so i said ok ill pay for it cash - she then SWIPED THE SAME CARD and i signed the voucher - yes i know im lost too - she then gave me the paperwork and the key and advised me head to my room - well aint this a shock - curtains falling off the wall - bathroom with a hole in the bath that has be bogged up with something nasty and has mould and rush in it - the tiles int he bathroom have 25 years of BROWN BODY FAT on them, the towel (yes only one for fear i may want to steal them i fancy) had a tear in it and was so thin i could see throug it - now i would not be able to use the light in the room to see through because there is only one light - looks so dingy, the view across the roof of the Restaurant is wonderful - i can see the roof because the curtains are falling off the wall. The airconditioner is a window rattler type which is so bloody cold but to have it off the room is so stuffy and hot. Then the bed - i doubt ill sleep tonight the nylon bedspreads are pilled and smell of body oder - the sheets are old and the pillows STINK. And the bed is so damaged its so hard i cant even sleep on it - never fear there is the back of the car which i might head too shortly.

In Brief - this place is nothing more than a dive. Where is the AUSTAR promoted on the website? They must have forgotten to pay the bill cause there aint no sign of it - the Remote for the TV doesnt work either - Ill leave comment about the filthy small warm fridge - Tea and Coffee making provided but i wouldnt touch that either looks like its been in the room for a year or two.

I wish i had read the other comments from people who have had the misfortune to stay here and i would have given it a big miss - event the tempting BIG breakfast which i paid extra for in the package may well suprise me in the morning.

Wide berth here friends.

I stayed in this motel for a night in July 2010. It was a complete dive. I felt like I was walking into a prison with drunk indigenous people staring at me from the balcony. The room I was given was near their so called restaurant. The bed was filthy and full of stain marks. Air con was not in order. TV with only 4 channels (advertised to have Austar) with a missing remote control. I was woken up at 3am by someone continuously shouting outside saying that he will kill everyone. I checked out at 5am as I did not feel safe in that hellish motel. I hope everyone finds this review helpful and stay away from this place.
