Had visitors from overseas and booked into the Rainbow Inn, looked fine on the internet. Much further from town than they imply, rooms filthy, staff unhelpful and really seedy people hanging around the restaurant/bar area. Do not go there!

Stayed here for a total of 3 nights and that was definitely more than enough. We were ready to leave after the 1st night!
The first room we stayed in had grubby floors, dirty washroom, and questionable dishes. There was a large trail of ants in the kitchen area that led up the wall next to the washroom to a rather large empty beetle carcass (it was only the exoskeleton because the ants had already culled the rest). Some of the other patrons seemed a bit dodgey (drunk, etc) and the room door was only a patio backdoor type, seemed fairly easy to break into.
This place says it has luggage storage, and that's true. However it turns out that storing luggage just means leaving it on a bench in the reception area.
The 2nd room we stayed in was better, at least no trails of ants. Yet this time 2 of the lights did not work and the sliding washroom door fell off its rail a couple of times.
The receptionist was sufficient, not particularly helpful or friendly.

stayed here for 3 nights, that was plenty. Room was filthy, cobwebs all over, mould in bathroom and on patio curtains, not cleaned properly, dirty linen on one of the beds, toilet smelled of stale urine( receptionist gave me some disinfectant to spray in it!had to buy a toilet cleaner/fragrance to make it something like livable with). Complained about this, and, give them their due, the cleaners did try and rectify this. Cook in "Coral Restaurant"!! was very rude when trying to order breakfast one morning. Also only partly finished painting room, part walls one colour, and part walls another colour- painting gear (rollers, trays, splashed paint on concrete) left outside of room, pool area dirty, newspapers in pool-laziness on behalf of other guests but not tidied up by staff, I went and picked them out. Had to pay $115 per night for privilege, thoroughly upset us on our first visit to Cairns. How it can be classed as 3 1/2 stars is beyond me. Never again.

The hotel website states newly renovated. Either our eoom hadn't been done yet or they need to look up the word renovation in the dictionary.
Our room was filthy. For a 3 star quality hotel room, we were both totally disgusted. Room and bathroom hadn't been swept or cleaned, patio door to poolside didn't lock. Bed uncomfortable and mattress stained. We had originally booked 5 nights, as we arrived late at night we tolerated 1 night and were out of there by 0800am. Definately won't be returning, person at reception didn't even seem bothered when we complained.

We stayed for three nights in September. We were looking for a budget price, and the website impressed us. The hotel looked attractive.
The reality did not live up to the image. The rooms were shabby. The hotel is an fact a motel and cars are parked in a covered driveway directly outside the doors of the ground floor rooms.
The hotel turned out to be quite a way from the town centre: a little beyond walking distance for we of later years and limited mobility. There is a bus service, but it is infrequent. Usually we used taxis.
Security is an issue. The doors of the rooms are easily reached from the street without going through reception. The locks on the rooms are flimsy, and there were attempts to open our door whilst we were in - honest mistakes, I am sure, but we felt safer leaving our valuables in the keepsafe in reception.
The galley area had a small population of cockroaches. We are told this is not unusual in Queensland, but I have to say we did not encounter them elsewhere.
Breakfast (not included in the room price) was fine, and service was rapid.
Internet access is available in reception for a small charge.
Reception staff were friendly and helpful.
All in all, the accommodation served our purpose - just. You get what you pay for, so we can't grumble, but we would probably choose somewhere else next time.
