“Good value”
Reviewed 1 September 2012

Attended a conferene. First time in Cairns and will re-visit for holiday. Found the staff very helpful and polite the only quibble is they do not do early access until AT LEAST 2pm, unfortunate if you have an early landing flight.
Grounds are as expected for a "Tropical" location. Room was adequate but not luxurious.
As with MOST establishments these days an ARMCHAIR would be a good idea.
Beds were good, some people were disturbed by noise early in the morning but this was due to early departures and luggage rattling past.
Restaurant - Breakfast and main meals are of good quality and value, very fresh.

Room Tip: A room by the pool is still OK as they do not allow late night swimming.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and we were very happy with the overall value for money and level of service. We booked online direct through the hotel and this was by far the cheapest rate. It included a continental breakfast each morning which was very satisfactory. I did purchase one morning the hot breakfast for $11 and I was happy with this too.

I can see in some other reviews complaints about noise and I can see how this might occur. I would suggest that you ask for a room at the rear of the hotel if you are particularly concerned about this. We had a room right next to the lagoon pool and while we did occasionally hear other guests walking past it wasn't bothersome.

Overall most of the staff were friendly and helpful but they occasionally seemed to be spread a bit thin. We had excellent and friendly service from a trainee in the restaurant who was attentive and helpful.

You should not come to this hotel expecting 5 star luxury with every comfort. If that is what you want in a hotel then you should pay the several hundred dollars a night that buy this. We booked this inexpensive hotel in the knowledge that we would be out sightseeing from early morning until after dinner and we found it perfect for this.

I think that if you did not have a hire car it might be inconvenient to get to and from Cairns as it is a few kilometres out of the city. We always found parking at the hotel and parking in Cairns was generally cheap or free (though sometimes hard to find).

Overall we were very happy with this budget hotel and would stay there again.

Room Tip: A room towards the back of the hotel would probably be quieter.

This place is getting on a bit, and needs a big overhaul. I booked four nights when they were having a 50% off deal with Continental Breakfast included. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay, then this place is not it. Lots of people coming and going at all hours of the night. After two nights of being woken up by people slamming doors or talking loudly on their way to/from their rooms we had had enough. We checked out after two days (no refund). The reception didn't seem that surprised, they porbably get that a lot. The basic motel style room is just that, very basic. They usually charge about $135 a night for this type room. Even at 50% off it's not worth it.

Breakfast is a nightmare. Stood in a line of about 20 or more people trying to get to the toaster. All they have is one small conveyor belt type toaster. After also waiting for some time for someone to come along to fill up the many empty food bowls/plates I also decided to go elsewhere for breakfast.

The photos on their website do this place more justice than it deserves. If you are absolutely desperate for a place to stay, then by all means waste your money.

Thank you for your comments following your recent stay. We always appreciate feedback and I am sorry we did not meet your expectations at all times during your visit. We experienced a particulary busy period during your stay and at times there can be delays.
The specials are seen as good value for money.
