We have just returned from our 8th stay at Cairns Colonial Club , we had a great down stairs superior room ,1 complaint was our patio area very untidy and very dirty table and chairs , the table covered in cigarette burns , but full marks they brought another outdoor setting and cleaned up the area . We were told no body is responsible for the outdoor area . As usual the rest of the 10 acres are immaculate. With out a doubt it was the best breakfast we have ever had there , and a lot of fun with Jack, my husband is on a walking frame and Jack looked after us so well , breakfast not the same when Jack had a day off. All the staff were great but the breakfast staff were particularly good , so helpful . The whole experience was so relaxing . My 2nd complaint was our dinner of Pork Belly , very fatty and not cooked properly and the Asian vegetables and rice very boring , the last night we decided to try steak night and it was very good and great value at $15.00. We certainly hope to go back, the value for money for accommodation is amazing .

Room Tip: We stayed in 442 and it was great so private .

Staff are friendly and if arranged pick you up from the airport then at sometime in the morning will drop you back. Not necessarily when you asked for it so leave a bit of extra time.
Rooms are comfortable but bathroom could be a bit cleaner.
Breakfast ok.

Dear Kerry
Thank you for acknowledging our 'friendly' staff - we are fortunate to have a great team and will be certain to pass on your positve comment.
Whilst the Resort is located a short drive to the Cairns Airport - it is always best to allow enough time for a leisurely pickup and then checkin at the airport it helps make for a stress free journey. We will focus on the areas you highlighted to improve and hope you will consider staying with us again when next in Cairns.
Kind regards - Susan

Clean and indeed a bit of a Colonial style. Good breakfast reasonably dinner. Most important, close to the botanical garden. A good place to start from if you want to look around Cairns instead of in Cairns.

Room Tip: Go for the slightly better rooms. The cheapest are fine but in use by groups on track so a bit more...

This is the third time I have stayed here and I was disappointed as I have loved this place. It needs a thoroughly good clean! However the furnishings in the rooms have not changed in 13 years. New carpets and a lick of paint would not go amiss. New bathroom suites would be appreciated and would surely save on water usage in the long run.

However the location is excellent and the gardens are really still very good.

The restaurant is still only average. The menu never changes, there are not enough waiters/waitresses, especially when a local group uses the restaurant; we waited over 30 minutes for someone to take our order and we even then had to ask for a drink.

Dear RobDW20
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate that you highlighted the Resort's great location and the well maintained gardens [ the gardeners will be delighted]! The 'team' will be disappointed to know that we did not meet your expectations on your most recent stay - and will work hard to improve the areas that you have highlighted. We hope to get to see you again soon and that you will enjoy the experience a little bit more.
Kind regards - Susan

We stayed for 4 nights just recently, taking advantage of a very good deal. We were located at the rear of the complex overlooking the tennis courts and could not believe how quiet it was. Ocassionally the staff trundled by in their buggies, but overall, having breakfast or a quiet drink on the balcony was very relaxing. The room had been 'refreshed' some time ago and needed some maintenance, but then it was not anything major. For the price we paid for the room we expected a lot worse!

We ate at the restaurant one night ($15 T-Bone) and this was quite enjoyable. Other meals reflect the general hotel prices in Cairns, although the noodles seemed appealing and good value at around $14.

If you book here, you need to be aware that it is located approx 5km from town and without any restaurants/cafes located close by.

Overall, a surprisingly enjoyable stay.

Dear Lifeadventures
Thank you for sharing your experience with others. We do offer an affordable accommodation option and were pleased you were able to experience this value. Surrounded by 11 acres of tropical gardens guests get to enjoy a sense of tranquity especially with the sounds of the waterfalls at each of the three amazing pools! When you are next in Cairns - we hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back to the 'Cairns Colonial Club Resort'!

the room was ok very tired although, in need of a makeover, but disappointed with the lack of amenities for meals. we arrived early evening ,hungry and knew we were quite a distance from any other place to get a feed. The restaurant was pricey and the meals were rather small. We were informed upon arrival that our room was upgraded to a room with a balcony, which was ok because we are both smokers, but I would not like to see the room originally allocated to us if that was an upgrade. We were right down the back of the resort and overlooked the tennis court. We were woken each morning by the grounds staff performing their duties. When the room service came through to clean they did not take the used cups or replace the coffee, milk and sugar. I had to chase them up. The front desk service was very good, we didn't have to wait very long for a taxi when called and information was very good. If on a budget and planning on sight seeing this is not the place to stay unless you get a room with kitchen facilities.

The club wasn't in the center about 5K away of the city, however it is located in a quite area with great landscape, our room was on the ground floor, big nice and clean with very comfortable bed. Great staff an service, Chef John cooked our first meal on arrival. Toshi and Matt at reception were wonderful, specially Toshi made our trip in Cairns as she helped us with last minutes booking to the Great Barrier Reef. BTW, the hotel has really happy staff as you will see them everywhere, Chanel was cheerful.

However, the hotel was packed with tour groups, some are arriving in very late and certainly you will hear them talking and dragging their luggage, and some Japanese guest will wake you up by just calling each other for a room number.. and the resort is very dark in the evening.

Room Tip: Taxi around in Cairns is suggested, cant cost you more than 30$ as the city is not big
