Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort
Ranked #21 of 63 Hotels in Cairns
Reviewed 31 December 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights in Decemeber 2013.Quite a large resort they have with 3 different wings which are interconnected.Reception staff members are very efficient and always helping. Our first room was on the poolside which we did not like but they changed to a roadside room immediately.
Rooms are fairly okay with typical Novotel set up,ready with all kinds of amenities. But split Air conditioning unit placed does not work well during daytime heat.Night is okay and one sleeps comfortably. That is the only negative feedback.Otherwise restaurant, bar, lobby, concierge everything is fantastic and staff members are very helpful.Restaurant is good breakfast spread is good, however, they kept the spread on till 9 AM only on Christmas day without any prior notice (regular time is till 10 AM)which caused great inconvenience to many.
Swimming pool is large nice with poolside bar and had a great time there.
Resort location is fantastic as it is closed to Esplanade, harbour, shopping centers and numerous eateries. They have free wi fi in the lobby, free internet facility and kids corner. One advice to the management I would like to give that they should take deposit or take signature of the guests before giving electrical adapting appliances as they are always in short supply with the reception.Overall very good experience and will come back again.

Room Tip: Avoid poolside room.

Thanks for taking the time to let us know that you enjoyed your stay at our "family friendly resort". While we do cater for all types of visitors to Cairns there are many features of the resort that are appealing to families, especially the large resort style pool with a "man-made" beach at one end.

Sorry to learn that you did not receive the welcome letter outlining restaurant open hours during the festive season. We hope the change in breakfast serving hours on Christmas day did not cause too much inconvenience.

We hope to welcome you back to Novotel in the future.

Kind regards,

We had two rooms with two grown up children. We knew Novotel, but this was slightly worn out already. Pool area was OK, but sunbeds dirty and hard. Breakfast was sufficient and supply worked well. Rooms were quite spacious, but the cleaning was not good. Room door had weak noise prevention. Reception could have been more helpful and friendly. Hotel location was quite nice with short walking distance to restaurants and Esplanade.

Our family stayed 9 nights at this resort. We would recommend this resort to families, in particular. The room was clean and had a good ranger of facilities. The pool was excellent. A highlight was the service of the staff at reception. We had an issue one night and Kaylene sorted it out within 10 minutes which we really appreciated. Restaurant is a bit pricey, but overall, a great family friendly resort.

We stayed here a week before Christmas 2013 in room 302. The resort is located in the heart of Cairns and is walking distance to absolutely everything. Easy walk to the Esplanade, Marina, IGA Supermarket, Cairns Shopping Centre (Myer, Target etc...) Casino and many, many restaurants. Our favourite find would be the ever so cheap Pho Viet Vietnamese restaurant across from the library, about a 2 minute walk away. The pool was beautiful with the swim up bar and very happy to see a BBQ that guests can use with all utensils, cooking oil, paper plates etc. also for use. The buffet breakfast was excellent with everything you could wish for and the staff in the restaurant were so friendly and remembered us everyday. Loved the free newspaper every day at breakfast. We hired a car from Avis that was perfectly located across the road. We had some very noisy neighbours on the first night and one call to reception and the problem was fixed. The only negative would be the flying fox that inhabit the trees outside the resort. Our room was thankfully not near those trees so we didn't notice them once in our room however when leaving the resort be careful of the falling mangoes that the little creatures drop and they were very smelly. I strongly advise to request a room away from the flying foxes as they would be very noisy and smelly from some of the rooms. Overall this resort is terrific value for money and great for families. Walking distance to all that is needed and the staff are more than happy to help.

Room Tip: Rooms in the block above the main entrance/restaurant are better as they are away from the flying fo...

We booked ourselves in at the Novotel Cairns Oasis with the intention of spending as little time as possible there, preferring to explore the wonders of all the Sunshine Coast's attractions, but on the first day our 11 year old daughter discovered the wonderful clean pool with the sandy shore, built in bar (serving her non-alcoholic drinks of course!) and fabulous breakfasts and she was sold! Our experience throughout the 6 nights that we were there was fantastic. The staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble, in fact, we will definitely come back! The rooms are basic but clean and have lovely little balconies.
My first major discovery was the NATURAL PALM SPA at the Novotel Oasis and the wonderful hands of Palm. After a wonderful and long foot massage with her I left her spa walking on air free of the tension of work and our 12 hour journey to get to Cairns. I made sure that I booked a full body massage with her again before we left where I was treated to an amazing thai massage that left me blissfully relaxed and soft skinned. Palm also gave me a Xmas present of some beautiful massage oil which I continue to use on this trip. I hope to see her again when we return!
David discovered several excellent eateries (Japanese, Vietnamese, Aussie grill, Indian and Italian) and great local pubs just minutes away and a myriad of walkable local attractions including the RSL, Zumba classes (for me), a swimming pool on the waterfront, and some lovely little parks. The best meal that we had though was in the Hotel - our daughter had spaghetti bolognese, I had salmon and David had chicken and it was 5 star eating. The desserts were to die for and the accompanying wine was wonderful - all recommendations by the wonderful staff. You have to try the Fondant dessert and the lychee brûlée!
I took us to visit the most beautiful church windows we have ever seen situated in a lovely little Catholic church just 400 metres down the road from the hotel - breathtakingly beautiful! Then there is the wonderful City library straight across the road on the corner that has free wifi, lovely helpful staff and excellent quiet spaces to sit and peruse their very good collection of books. Straight across the road from the Novotel is also the cleanest and best little laundromat I have ever used. I washed a load of delicates and light cottons for AUS$5.00 and dried them all for AUS$3.00 and got 4 packs of washing powder for AUS$4 - not bad to smell sweet for another week!
The things that surprised us were the hundreds or maybe thousands of Fruit bats that live in the trees around the Novotel - they are a protected species in Cairns! You do get used to the noise and we never once got bat droppings on us (thank goodness!) The friendliness of everyone there is astounding! We will definitely be returning to Cairns and the Novotel oasis.

Cheers
Trish David and Emi - NZ

The meal in the restaurant was served cold and sent back and only half the meal was reheated. Neighbouring room was very noisy and annoying. One female staff member at reception was very helpful. We have stayed at the Novotel a number of times at it is a shame the quality and service of food in the restaurant has deteriorated over more recent times.
