This was our first time to Cairns and this hotel was beautiful. It really was an older hotel that has been well-maintained and has a lot of charm. The rooms were very large and many offer great views. You are within walking distance of downtown or the docks and right across the street from the casino. The pool area was very nice as well.

Had three nights stay at end of November. It was a great hotel with excellent location, which is close to everything because it is IN the city.
The hotel is classic resort style, not modern design but nice and clean. Bathroom is old style, but it is very big and clean!
Room is very big, bigger than The Hilton. Balcony is very nice. Even the city view room has got tiny bit of ocean view, big plus!
Room service is good and tidy. Service staff is nice!
All good. Highly recommend! Compare to my previous stay in The Hilton, i will recommend The Sebel.
Since it is in the city centre, it was bit noisy at weekend nights.
And the beds can be a bit short for tall people.

Room Tip: If you booked a city view room, it is fine because it has ocean view too!

As local Cairns residents, we recently stayed one night at The Sebel to celebrate a birthday. We had a room on the 5th Floor overlooking the Cairns Casino with a small balcony to enjoy the views & fresh air. First impressions of the room were cleanliness, modern & good size. The bathroom was large, very clean & had a bathtub. Bed was comfortable although a choice of pillows plus a mattress topper would improve the comfort levels. The lobby bar was impressive with a live entertainer. Sadly, we were unable to dine at the restaurant due to a 'full house' but we did walk across the road to the 'Tamarind' at the Casino (highly recommended). There was some street noise due to Xmas parties but didn't last long. Breakfast buffet is definitely worth the experience. I would recommend this Hotel to my friends & guests and stay here again.

Just stayed here for four nights with family of four. We found our room on the ninth floor with reasonable harbour views, both quiet and very nice. We had booked with Wotif and cannot fault the value at $530 for the stay. I would agree with some reviews that the hotel is lacking in some areas and I would say it won't be able to hold it´s five star rating much longer. Simple things were being unattended such as pool toilets where the urinal has been removed and not replaced. Shower clothes lines and towel hooks falling off from their mounts, old tv sets in an otherwise lovely room, all small things that add up to lack of maintenance and budget. Thought we would eat at restaurant but overpriced and so much better choices along waterfront at much less money with great views etc. This hotel is still a great place to stay but could really be fantastic if it utilised it´s great pool area better for casual dining (they don't serve food/drink out there after six, ) and checked the maintenance issues. If you get a good price it is still a great option.

Room Tip: Get a higher floor (9 and up) and a corner room (quiet) with harbour view.

Good value for a chain hotel. Friendly helpful staff. Good sized rooms with all the usual amenities although milk for teas and coffees is a bit mean.Remember to turn off the air conditioning fan or it is like staying in a noisy fridge! Buffet breakfast is as you would expect in a five star hotel with lots of variety although the buffet dinner is very fished based and there is not much variety if you are vegetarian. Good location with just a short walk to the Pier where there are lots of restaurants. Enjoyed our brief stay there.

Firstly, I would like to thank the duty manager at the time (Matthew, I think) for being really friendly, helpful and understanding of our frustration when staying in one of the Executive suites.
We were intending to stay with Sebel for 5 nights, but after 3 nights of no sleep due to thin walls, housekeeping cleaning the room next door at 7:30am twice, flight attendants needing to get up for work at 4am twice, and a room move in the middle of the 3rd night due to guests smoking in the room next door we had had enough. These suites in my opinion are poorly designed, and very noisy. We eventually asked the duty manager if we could check out early and moved to the Hilton.

Room Tip: Do not stay here if you are a light sleeper.

Good hotel in cairns, but lots of independent boutique places much cheaper available. Good pool area but watch for the falling branches of the palms !
