“Enchanting property, top location”
Reviewed 26 February 2013

Stayed here in January in a standard room, very comfortable, great position across the road from marina, casino and convience of shops. Did not experience food nor room service, check in was pleasant and efficient. The entrance is really something, unusual a twist of french colonial it's very pretty and quite unique. Pool and surrounds looked enticing. Would definately return if room rate was good.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights before departing Australia. This was by far the best hotel we stayed in whilst in the country, and a great note to go out on.
The Hotel just welcomes you!
It is opposite the casino with superb views of the sea on three sides.
If you can afford it - try it.

Pullman recently took over this large and very grand property. With soaring ceilings and columns the hotel is reminiscent of grand old colonial hotels and in laid back Cairns seems a bit of an oddity. The furnishings in the lobby and public spaces could be changed with grander and certainly more comfortable seating. There is a shortage of seating in the bar area...not a good thing if you want customers to linger. Service was good and the rooms were fine and had water views. The buffets at Cocos, the restaurant, are kept refreshed and full, unlike in far too many other hotels. The breakfast buffet has both Asian and western dishes. The pool is large and very attractive but there was no food or drink service poolside, a real downside.

This hotel played a part in one of my best days ever. Auckland to Cairns; I got to Pullman Cairns International (then 'The Sebel Cairns') to their impressive and expansive lobby at approx 10:00am and asked if I could check in; they located a room for me that was ready even though it was well before official check-in time. I relaxed a while in the room then headed downstairs to Sunday morning brunch, with live jazz playing and cool cocktails available (although it was still a little early for me!). I spoke to the concierge in the lobby who was very helpful and managed to locate something that would allow a last-minute booking half-day trip that would involve exploring the region and snorkelling on the reef: a trip to Green Island; along with helpful directions and a map of how to get there.
Arrived back to the hotel in the evening to enjoy a delicious and interesting menu at the restaurant; and an impressive selection of drinks at the bar, including the notorious Louis XIII prestige cognac by Remy Martin, being sold by the glass. I couldn't walk past this opportunity as the bottles tend to retail for $2500-$4000 depending on where you buy from - I'd never buy a bottle but the opportunity to sample a glass of this was fantastic. The first glass arrived and had a floater in it; they replaced it without question even though this must have cost the bar a lot of money to do.
The room was comfortable and spacious enough; clean; with a balcony looking out onto the pool which by the way is a fantastic rooftop pool.
The breakfasts are incredible, with fresh seafood sourced locally and a fantastic selection of cooked and fresh foods.
I'd definitely consider staying at Pullman Cairns International again; would be pleased if the business booked it for me next time!

Location was great. Very close (3 minute walk) to the Wharf for our Great Barrier Reef cruise so no need to pay the extra cost for hotel transfer. Straight across the road from the Casino. Short walk (5 mins) into town for dinner or selection of restaurants next door.
Room was lovely. Very tidy and had everything required for a comfortable stay.
Service was also great. Very friendly staff that went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Good selection for room service at reasonable prices.
We dined at the in-house restaurant for a buffet breakfast and were more than happy with the selection available and the quality of the food served.
The best way to relax after a long day sight seeing was to sit by the pool with a cool drink. Pool-side service was available via phone. I think the only thing lacking was a pool-side bar.
