The Sebel is a classy hotel in the Cairns CBD. The rooms have high ceilings, the finish and furnishings are first class. The evening buffet represents extraordinary value for money at $65 a head. The lobby is vast and impressive, the pool area one of the best in Cairns. The service is smart and professional.

The Hotel has a very grand entrance and the inside dosen't disapoint either. With a very spacious area and pleasant bar and eating area, the Hotel is an ideal place to stay if you like quality locations. In addition the rooms were of a very high standard and we had a balcony which over looked the main shopping street to the left and the harbour front to the right. It is perfectly located for the very pleasant shopping, the many restaurants, which are just a short walk away or the harbour area for trips to the Barrier Reef or restaurants overlooking the boats. ('Dundees' was sensational)

I stayed here on Valentines weekend Feb 2009. Great service in lobby bar on Friday night after flight from Sydney. Really comfortable and clean rooms, with a nice view over the inlet/casino/bay. Great location in the centre of Cairns, walking distance to the Mall and Esplanade. Really enjoyed the pool area, although the gym was closed during our stay.

Had a late checkout for Sunday till midday (we checked in at 10pm Friday, and were not flying out until 5pm Sunday). We were all packed and ready to vacate the room, watching the last few minutes of a "Grand Designs" episode about 11:50am when the phone rang. An incredibly rude and hostile receptionist demanded to know when I was leaving, and threatened to charge me for 'overstaying'. Certainly had it been past midday, I would have no problem with a reminder call. However, her tone and manner were completely inappropriate at any time and rarely have I been subject to such blatant rudeness when staying at any hotel. It is often the actions of individuals who ruin the reputation of properties - hopefully this receptionist is now employed somewhere more suitable for a person of her skill level. I would stay here again though - you can get bad service anywhere, and the facilities of the hotel were decent for the price we paid.

The hotel has a lovely almost colonial feel, and the room we had was excellent. Very spacious and updated, with a nice balcony. The breakfast buffet was large and good, and the location of the hotel was great for walking around town. One thing slightly lacking was the service, we waited quite a long time at the Conciege desk, but they did seem to be very busy that day.

This hotel would have been amazing a few years ago, but the rooms look dated now. Internet access expensive ($27 a day) and the lifts are painfully slow.
Hotel is in a excellent location very close to most places a tourist would want to go. Directly opposite the casino, and a very short walk to the piers and the Esplanade.
