Had a great few days staying here in dec in a spacious one bedroom apartment, with laundry. so many pools to swim in which i loved. AIR-con kept the place lovely and cool as it was so hot and humid outside. Lovely clean kitchen. you do need a car if staying here as it is quite a stretch to walk into town, is 10 min drive from the airport..

Room Tip: rooms on south side are quieter

Our party of five stayed in a two bedroom self contained unit. It had all we needed for our four day stay. Airconditioning and fans, kitchen with all the necessities and clean bathrooms and comfortable beds. There are about four pool spots at the Lakes for us to choose from with clean white sand for the kids. Reception staff helpful and courteous. We were able to book into our room on arrival in the morning of Christmas Eve so this was much appreciated. We had dinner that night at the Tuscan Table and the food and service was excellent. We planned to return for another meal but we ran out of time. We negotiated airport transfers to offset the extra cost for the fifth person. Our only winge is that there was no DVD Player to play our Christmas DVD's - movie hire at $15.00 each and pool towel hire at $2.00 each. We were woken in the early hours to the noise of the garbage being removed on two mornings. Extra person costs $35.00 per night for a roll out bed.Overall a good place to stay.

Room Tip: You might not want to get a unit next to the pool areas due to the noise levels of children and adul...

Stayed two nights here November 20011. It is a gated complex with apartments in mediterranean villa style buildings. The complex is quite large with pools dotted about in different areas. We stayed in a very spacious one bedroom apartment which was furnished to a very good standard, was spotlessly clean and the kitchen had every convenience including washing machine and dryer. The bed was large and comfy with nice white linen and the bathroom was large, modern and spotless. We were very comfortable and impressed with the standard.

However, on arrival we were rather unimpressed with the general look of reception and the immediate arrival area. It has the distinct look of a caravan park reception complete with a rather dreary little shop attached directly to the reception desk and limited space to sit or wait for attention. Some of the reception staff were distincly laid back, so much so that we wondered if they were going to bother speaking to us at all. Others were a little more switched on and more proffessional.

The cafe/restaurant where breakfast and other meals can be bought is directly off reception and we understood had recently undergone a refurb. Our general impression was that it had been done on a tight budget and that it lacked any kind of welcome or atmosphere. We thought the food served was predictable and lacked any imagination - burgers/pizzas etc - and we ate there only once. The staff did just enough but no more and we were disappointed.

Our general impression of the place, in spite of the impressive apartment, was that it was slightly downmarket and this was reinforced by the genreal behaviour and appearance of many of the guests, especially when in the cafe - they were loud and quite uncouth. Sorry, but it just has to be said! The complex in general looked like it had seen better days and was due for an upgrade.

It is situated on its own close to the airport and surrounded by dual carriageways which are tricky to cross and is about a forty minute walk in to Cairns itself, which is not good in the scorching temperatures and high humidity - we took a taxi. Sadly, we can think of no reason to stay so far out of town as the complex was a disappointment except for our apartment and the town centre is still only a short drive from the airport anyway.

Room Tip: The location is quiet in spite of the main roads and the apartments are very spacious and well equip...

i stayed there with my partner for a week, and it was just ok... nothing special for the price you pay.
the rooms were a good size but so run down... a king bed is just 2 beds pushed together and all of the furniture is very old and so uncomfortable!
the bar there is very average! the food is on, the service is ok....

i wouldnt stay there again as it was just so far from the town or any attractions..

Room Tip: if your a light sleeper, dont choose rooms facing the pools

I hadn't had a break for years so I really needed to unwind. Even though I was holidaying with my two children the relaxed atmosphere at The Lakes meant I could just kick back and enjoy. The pools were great and we made good use of the BBQs. The rooms had everything we needed and Reception staff were very attentive. I'm not one for eating out much so I was very impressed with the kitchen facilities in our room. Being so close to the city was another big plus.

Don't recommend if you want to have good customer service, we were given a shocking room, so for the first time ever (and we travel a lot) we asked to change rooms, well you would have thought I had committed a serious crime, they took 5.5hrs to decide if they could, and after wasting half of our first day, and 2 phone calls from me they finally made a decision, they gave us a ground floor room with a view of a concrete wall?! with two broken air con units when every day was 34 degrees! We had stayed here 6yrs ago and loved it, but I thought they would improve with time but they rude and disinterested, as I went to leave I was hoping they would ask us how the stay was, but 'No' nothing! Just while we were checking out the duty manager walked into the office behind the lady checking us out, left the door open, proceeded to surf the internet on the sports pages and start picking his nose in full view, that really just summed up the entire experience.

Room Tip: There are about 4 pools here, and they are open from 6am to 10pm, so I suggest you don't get a r...
