We really feel we lucked out getting a camp spot at this hostel. For less them a dorm bed, we had a roomy private tent provided with an air mattress. Though our initial booked for 2 nights, we ended up extending it...staying for 10! There were free/discounted dinner vouchers that allowed us to eat on the cheap every night. Steak and mash for $8! Yes! A walk into downtown Cairns was only about 30 mins. A free shuttle also ran to/from downtown several times a day. The staff was super, and very informative for activities in and around Cairns. Highly recommended hostel.

Fair rates, clean and comfortable accommodation, friendly staff. We (a couple) slept in a 4 beds room. We got each a blanket and a towel.
It takes about 25 minutes to walk to the main street by the sea, but you can get a free lift by the hostel about 9 times a day to the centre.
During our stay we paid for a nice BBQ dinner at the hostel. It costs 12$, and you get a mix of meat and simple salads.
There is free internet, safety lock under the bed in the rooms, and free coffee and tea in the kitchen.
It is a cool place to stay if you need a cheap accommodation.

We camped here for three nights. The staff are very friendly and every thing is clean. We felt very safe and comfortable here. A breath of fresh air if you've been staying at dodgy places. A really beautiful vibe too. :)

We originally booked 4 nights camping in a tent thinking this would be enough. However, we ended up returning to this hostel 3 times and staying a total of 3 and a bit weeks. We loved the atmosphere here, it was so relaxed and the staff were so friendly (espcially Laura who booked many trips for us). Loved chilling out by the pool in hammocks everyday. In fact we quite often didn't leave the hostel as all the facililties we needed were on sight. Although it's a 20 min walk from town they run a free shuttle bus about 7 times a day which was perfect. At $16 a night, camping was such good value for money, we found it a lot of fun and we were provided with full camping equipment including a matress! Would definatley recommend this hostel and would happily return.

I stayed on tropic days one week and it was a really good time! Friendly staff, little dorms (3-4 share dorm max), free wifi, good and clean kitchen for only 27AUD per night! A little far away from the city, they drive you every hours to the town center!

Thank for all!

Cyril

Only had the opportunity to spend one evening here, but greatly enjoyed it.

Pros:
-- Quiet - I am a light sleeper and generally only dislike hostels because they tend to be noisy due to location or patronage. This was not at all the case with tropic days -- I slept like a baby.
-- Friendly -- Check in staff was very welcoming and it seems like it would be quite a hospitable place to stay for the longer term
-- Price - don't have a sense of the benchmark, but I stayed in a single room with a shared nice bathroom for ~$55 which is 1/4 the price of a mediocre hotel room in Cairns. There are even cheaper accommodation options available as well (I think down into the teens).
- Amenities - Free coffee and snacks, free internet -- both nice bonuses

Cons:
-- Location -- It is a bit outside the city center, so you will have to ride the shuttle or go on a long walk. However, this also contributes to its friendlier, quieter atmosphere, so it is not necessarily a total negative.
-- Coin operated AC -- Minor grievance, but this just seems a bit goofy. I would prefer to just be charged to have it on or not and not have to have a bunch of coins for the air conditioner.

A great experience all around -- If you go, swing around the block to the Green Ant for a burger and beer.

Room Tip: I enjoyed the queen size room I stayed in. Think it was room #6. VERY quiet and spacious, with the...

The best hostel I´ve been in Australia, and in many aspects the best hostel I've been so far.

The only downside you have to consider before booking with them is the location. Apart from that, I think it's near perfection. Anyway they run a free shutte to the city center every two hours or so, and by walking it's around 20 minutes. A lot of parking space on the nice residential street.

The place is super clean, they even bleach the bathrooms floors and walls several times a week. The kitchens are cleaner than my own and have all the staff you could need for cooking or baking. Good Internet and computers. Great cozy living rooms as well (not tv). Laid-back atmosphere, where you can mix with other travelers or enjoy time out alone in the garden. A real hostel for travellers, I met very interesting people and we share experiences.

I loved their BBQ night on Monday (kangaroo, emu, barramundi and crocodrile on the menu) with the owners, the dirigidoo competition, and the pizza night on Thursday.
