“Excellent Service - Great value for money - Kids loved it!”
Reviewed 7 October 2010

We arrived at midnight in Cairns arrangements made for key pick up - no problems.
Reception staff at the suites were welcoming and helpful. Our apartment was serviced once during our week visit which was all we required. Units are spacious and clean as per the photos on the web site. Kids loved pool and spa. We hired a car to run into the lagoon pool and restaurants. A walk to the Cairns main lagoon pools at top of the esplanade would take 30 to 40 minutes. Our kids 10 and 12 found this a little long. The only bad point to these suites was occasional noise from plane departures which was worse at the weekend. We enjoyed Charlies all you can each dinner with seafood which was about a minute walk and very reasonably priced. Liked the Skyrail but not so keen on the return by rail (scenery limited views by vegetation and takes a couple of hours - quiet humid when full at holiday time). Went on Frankland Island cruise for the day - got great family discount. Great team runs this service. Fantastic lunch. Swam with the turtles - lovely coral. Medium size groups - Great supervision and information - Our kids made great friends and had a terrific day. Overall loved Cairns.

Hotels in Cairns are generally not great value for money, so Coral Towers is still decent when compared to the rest in town. But since we visited from Gold Coast where the apartment scene is extremely competitive, the rooms here felt cramped, tired and old in comparison, rather like a retiree house.

Realistically it takes close to half an hour to stroll to the city centre, and there's no amenity very close by, so be ready to walk long distance or take the overpriced taxis. The seashore is right outside which sounds great, but then you realize Cairns has no beach, only mudflats affording poor views.

The female owner is informative yet way too money-minded which left us with a sour taste. We had five people booking several days' worth of tours but she refused to offer any discount, saying it's only for over 20 people. Then she gladly took her usual 20% commission, worth hundreds of dollars for half an hour of "helping". We have seen much more gracious tour advisors during the trip.

Furthermore, she asked us to pay for calling taxi and ordered us to bring garbage bags from our room to the ground floor collection area upon departure. Rather unusual demands to hotel guests (this is not a budget hostel after all), not to mention she said these in a very self-righteous manner. The male co-owner is very polite, however.

My family and I stayed here for 7 nights in late August. We enjoyed our stay and found the managers and staff to be helpful and friendly and the accomodation to be reasonably good value for money. The apartments are spacious, very clean, well maintained, well set out, lots of fans and A/C (certainly needed in warmer months), with a good kitchen and two bathrooms. We had a corner apartment with a nice view of the Esplanade. The grounds are very nice, well maintained and clean with a nice pool area. Re the negatives. There aren't many but include: the planes are very loud and frequent, it is a long walk into town, the corner apartments would be very warm in the summer months, our bed was quite uncomfortable and the unit was not serviced all week which would have been good after 4 days. These are not complaints at all, just observations. Re value for money, I think these apartments are reasonable value for money, neither great value or over-priced. All up, it was pretty super and I would recommend this complex.

Our family consists of two sons, ages 9 and 7. We had a beautiful, spacious apartment, with two bedrooms, two baths, a laundry room, a dining room, a living room, and a roomy kitchen full of conveniences. We had a balcony with a wonderful view of the ocean and lots of room for us to sit outside to enjoy the view. The owners are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They really cared that we got the most from our time in Cairns. I can't recommend this place enough. It was wonderful!

We couldn't be happier with our hotel choice for our 4 night stay in Cairns. Our air-conditioned suite was a good sized two-bedroom apartment with large living room, dining area and good-sized kitchen (full-sized appliances: stove, frig, toaster, microwave, coffee pot), and a small laundry room with your own washer and drier. There were balconies/lanais off both bedrooms and the family room.

Our family of 4 really enjoyed the luxury of the space to spread out in.

The friendly managers were great, helping us to get settled in Cairns and making suggestions to help us decide among the various reef-cruise options as well as other site-seeing.

The kitchen is great for making your own meals, and they have a barbecue grill by the pool to use also.

Coral Towers is across the road from the ocean. Cairns doesn't really have a swimmer-friendly beach, just sort of tidal mud-flats (except a small man-made swimming lagoon right downtown). But we enjoyed the view of the ocean and the walking paths along the sea-front park.

The location is pretty convenient to the airport and the highway to get out of town to the west or north, and and easy drive to downtown Cairns. We weren't bothered by airplane noise much at all. Cairns airport doesn't have that many late or early flights.

Downsides:
1) no 24 hour reception. Didn't really matter in the end, but if you arrive late in the day, you'll have to get after-hours arrival instructions, which weren't any big deal.
2) Too far from downtown to realistically walk (but not impossible) just to grab dinner or something. It's easiest with your own car. If you're staying here, you probably have multiple people, so a car is the most economical way to get around anyway.
3) You depend on the other guests (& yourself) to cook responsibly and not set off the smoke/fire alarms for the whole building (someone set it off just as we arrived, but after that, no problems).

There is a small (expensive!) IGA grocery about 10 minutes walk away, and a couple of restaurants about the same distance.

Summary: Great amount of space for the cost. Friendly, quiet atmosphere with free secure parking made for a relaxed vacation. I would absolutely stay here again!

The rooms were spacious clean and very well equiped with everything you would want. We could sit on the balcony and have a great view of the foreshore and the hinderland. The staff were absolutely fantastic, organised all our excursions ,couldnt do more for you if they tried, treated us as one of the family. Lovely quiet position with a beautiful outdoor pool and a spa that we got great value from. We would highly recommend Coral Towers to anyone.

We stayed at Coral Towers for over a week in July.

Sandy and Tony were so welcoming and friendly. They arranged a hire car (at half of the price that i found on the net) and all of our trips. They also were great with advice and knew the Cairns area well. They were very popular with all of the guests staying in Coral Towers.

The apartment was great, clean, modern and very comfortable. It had a full kitchen including a dish washer and we also had a laundry room with a washer and dryer. We also had a great balcony with chairs and a table.

All of the apartments have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We also were given a little starter kit with tea, coffee, milk, sugar, dishwasher tablets, etc.

There is a pool and BBQ's outside too.

The views over the sea, the mountains and Cairns were spectacular. Coral Towers is close enough to the centre of Cairns but far enough away to be relaxing. There is a secure car park underneath the building too.

I will definately stay here again and would recommend Coral Towers to others.
