The hotel staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. The garden and pool area are beautiful. If you get there earlier in the day they have limited gated secure parking which was great. The on-site restaurant is very good, although a bit pricey. The room itself was nothing fancy but clean and did the trick. The overall feel of the hotel made it that much better.

What I loved about this place was the lush greenery. It felt so tropical! I loved it!

I definitely didn't share the experience the other reviewer had. Our room was clean and sheets fresh. I checked out the bay village website before booking and there was no false advertising there. The place was exactly as the photos they posted. Sure the pool wasn't olympic sized but it was perfectly sweet and tranquil place to hang out and unwind by.

The staff were very helpful and gave us directions around town and pointed out good attractions nearby. They booked our reef trip for us which was brilliant. A fun day out. We also took a couple of nice drives up to Kuranda and the beaches nearby based on staff recommendations.

Last but in no way least was the hotel restaurant. Normally when traveling we avoid hotel restaurants but in this case, the food was sooo good, we opted to stay in to eat at BayLeaf a couple of times.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed out stay at the Bay Village, it was indeed a very tropical retreat and would love to make another trip back.

I stayed here for a few days with my girl friend on my way to New Guinea for business and spent a few extra days because I'd never spent time in this part of Australia. I really liked it. The rooms are neat and clean and there's a small but decent pool that I hung out by in the mornings. The staff was helpful and the prices were reasonable.
The restaurant is really a stand out here. Its very good and worth going to even if you don't stay at the hotel. As far as a good convenient place to stay I would definitely recommend.

Seriously don't stay here!
I was on my honeymoon and this was sold as a 4* property when it is nothing but a cheap American style motel.
The picture you see in the brochures is not of the hotel but the entrance to the restaurant.

The pool is nothing but a pond in the centre of the complex. The balcony is shared with everyone else on your floor.

Our room was basic to say the least. Old rickety bed, dirty sheets and my pillow smelt of stale sweat. There are no curtains here - just wooden slatted blinds that don't meet in the middle so anyone can see into your room.

All the loungers and seats on the shared balcony can be used by anyone and we had a fat old man lounging semi naked against our window smoking a cigar.

We didn't even stay the night and moved to the Holiday Inn which is a 4*. The receptionist informed us we were not an isolated case - people had moved from the Bay Village to Holiday Inn for the same reasons, dirty, cockroaches etc.

DO NOT STAY HERE

rude reception especially in night shift, room on the ground floor motel style, tiny bathroom, ants in the walls beside the bed and nest of flies in front of the room. For $ 140 per night there are much better hotels in Cairns, about the pool it looks more like a billabong. The only good thing is the bus free to the airport but this motel can not be called and paid as a hotel.

Booked a 3 bedroom apartment. Really nice inside with everything you need. Ample parking, all rooms have air con, really good. However we booked it with 3 double beds and a fold out lounge as there was 7 of us (3 couples and one other) and they gave us 2 doubles, a single and the fold out. When phoned the first time, a male who couldnt be understood didnt see the issue. After another phone call, a lady came up and fixed it all up. Also not enough towels to go around and took a little while to get more. Minor issues to a great stay.

The hotel and the room were nice. Good size room, clean / spotless, nice bar & restaurant at the hotel, a very good price for Cairns ($<100 usd/day). The rooms all have fridges in them which is nice for stashing cool treats (small freezer though). Housekeeping and front desk staff were excellent. There's a little pool and lots of free street parking.

A great plus: free transfers to/from airport, saving you more money (when you get to Cairns, there's a free phone for the hotel at the airport). Make sure you book ahead for the return, there may not be enough room in the van. It's a short drive to the airport, and about a 30 minute walk. On the other hand, phone calls and internet (typically free in US hotels) were not free (80 or 90 cents / call, $3 for internet computers, I think for 30 minutes if I remember right). There is vending at the hotel, but there's also a convenience store about 1/2 block away. There is a breakfast/lunch place about a block away.

As noted, the hotel is about a 15-minute walk from Cairns central. It may not seem much, but it could be a pain, esp. when it is hot. Speaking of which, the hotel is not really AC'd, which could be a problem when it's hot. It was 70s-high 80s when I was there and the big fan in the room was good enough to keep cool. The bed was comfy. As with the case in most Australia hotels, there's not a lot of TV options, but I didn't really care.

All in all, the hotel is a very good value, esp. if the walk and AC isn't a huge deal to you.
