A 20 min walk from the Esplanade - basic facilities - older style hotel - continental help-yourself breakfast only - several other nearby places offer cooked breakfasts - staff helpful, but few to be seen - stair-climb if you have heavy bags and above 2nd floor - we had Sheridan street front view, but not overly noisy. Airport pickup bus available here. Main part of hotel locked after office hours, but back door access available 24 hours.

We stayed at the Best Western at the end of September 2012 for a couple of weeks. The location was perfect, a short walk to the main centre for restaurants and the shopping mall. The rooms were basic and clean. The staff are really friendly but the service is a bit hit and miss. At breakfast you often had to hunt someone out for cutlery, plates and food. The bulb went in our bathroom and we were given a standard lamp to use as they didn't have a replacement bulb, which wasn't ideal. Our last night was a nightmare, we had a group of rugby fans book into the room next door and the two rooms below us and they partied hard 'til about 5/6am the next morning. We rang reception to complain a couple of times and they did their best and we were given a refund for that night so kudos to them.

This is a great value motel in a great location and even though we had the problem on the last night I wouldn't hold it against them, just make sure you book a time when there are no big matches on.

No elevator and we where on third floor. I have my whole life in my three bags so was annoying. There where a bunch of ants all over the table and in the light in the wall. They got in my mac laptop before i could realise and i couldn't get rid of them for a good few days. In our room the wifi only worked in one corner on the balcony there was mould in the bathroom...I've camped and stayed in some pretty bad places as well as the best hotels but i would never stay there and we got a really good $87 deal for one night and the second night we complained about ants nothing was done and they charged me 100$. The good thing about it was I had a bed to stay in and a shower otherwise i did not enjoy that.

Room Tip: Choose on the lowest floor

Our stay at the BW City Sheridan in Cairns was totally adequate and the room was spacious. The hallways echo quite a bit but the place did not seem to be too busy that night. The location is a few blocks away from the Esplanade but it was fine for us to walk to and from. The best part for us was the free, shaded off street parking and the great value of the room.

While the hotel(rather a motel) it is very eficient and reliable it reverberates the noise from everywhere. The acoustic insulation is terrible i heard all day and night the road traffic of the busy Sheridan street. The room doors when they open they have an alarm like abulance car. Some guests the keep for a while open or even forgot to close when they left and the alarm broke our nerves. The materrial and the construction make the conversation in the coridor by other guests to sound as if they are inside the room. It is a pitty because it is good clean hotel , but the noise makes the things difficult.

Room Tip: I you decide to stay ask room in the back side and far from ...kids

Location and price convinced us to book this hotel a short 10 minute walk from Cairns Esplanade. Sub $200 rooms are hard to come by in Cairns so we were please to find a family room in this hotel for just $120. On arrival at 11am we were told out room wasn't yet ready so we should come back at 2pm. We did so and found that it still wasn't ready. Around another 45 minutes later we were given a room in the second floor. We then discovered that the building has no elevator and had to drag our 8 bags of luggage up 2 flights of stairs (no assistance available or offered).

The room was spacious and clean with a double bed, 2 singles, large flat screen tv, safe, microwave, fridge, and tea/coffee facilities. All looked to be either new or in good order with the exception of the fridge which was possibly recycled from the city dump and looked awful. The room had air con though this wasn't required during our stay. The bathroom was functional and basic and in the main clean, though there was a large collection of long hairs on the wall and shower curtain that was a little stomach churning.

Everything else was merely fine. We slept well on comfortable beds and there was no noise or other annoyances. The only other points to note are that the hotel official images show what great things can be achieved with a wide angle lens as everything was a great deal smaller than is suggested, and that great tropical fish tank in reception could do with a good clean as it isn't so inviting.

This was a good place to rest our heads after a long travel day & a late flight in but I'm glad we only had one night.
The rooms are badly in need of some repairs ( broken tiles) and a really good clean ( pretty sure the toe nail clippings in the bathroom weren't mine!).
Nevertheless it was cheap & the beds were comfortable enough.
Be aware there are lots of steps to the third floor if you have heavy cases.
