My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights right before the cyclone hit Queensland.

The price was the reason we chose the place and we were pleasantly surprised it had a great amount of space and free internet. Cairns is pretty expensive so this was nice.

The only thing I didn't like was the beds being on rollaway wheels so when you sat on them they moved away from the wall and slipped.

For the price it was good and I would recommend it.

perfect spot to stay for several days to use as a base. room was large clean & had aircon. Had a great nights sleep as the room as facting the pool so no street noise. ate in the hotel one evening & food was great!.
wifi in the room wasn't consistant & had to go to the bar to get wifi most of the time but didn't mind that. Hotel also has laundry facilities- great if youa re travelling on an extended trip.
Would definately recommend, & location is a 10min walk from the "action".

Best western has a lot of hotels in Cairns, so you need to specify that this one is "Best western Sheridan".

The air con was very noisy. Rooms had a big balcony, which was good. Unfortunately, there is nothing much to see - either a barren huge road or a small pool at the rear. TV was ok. Internet was good in some rooms, poor wifi reception in others. well, it is free.

There is a small restaurant below, but does not serve anything much. The hotel is very far from everything - about 15 mins walk to the supermarket/ central Cairns, so it is difficult to eat without already having digested the food by the time you have returned!

Service was good and cheerful, you can leave your bags at the reception for 2-3 days and they do not grumble. Booking thru their website was easy, rates are reasonable at 85 aud. but I would not stay so far next time.

I chose this hotel, as most people do, because of the modest price and in-town location. It is a ten minute walk to most downtown locations, which was fine. My room was fine, with the amenities others have described : fridge, iron, etc. However, I had a number of problems. First, the internet did not work in the room, and I had to go downstairs to get wifi reception. Despite several visits to the front desk, they were not really able to get access in my room. However, much worse was their lack of security : the front desk closes at night, and room access is through a side door. The lock was missing on this door, meaning anyone could have access to the rooms and hotel at any hour. This is inexcusable in my view, and typical of what I felt was a general; shoddiness to both service and maintenance at this hotel. They should do better.

I was impressed with what I got for the money.
The room was spacious and very clean, with fridge, hairdryer, iron board all that. The only thing that give away it's a motel is the micorwave (which I dont mind), otherwise quite decent. The internet was also free with good speed.
I only paid 68 bucks per night so was given the room facing Sheridan Street, the rooms facing the inside swimming pool should be quiet but cost more. So if you're annoyed by the traffic noise, turn on the air-con fan, then you wouldn't notice a thing.

Another tip for walking to the globe (heart of the city) is to take the explanade route instead of Sheridan Street, it'll make it a joy walk (15 mins). But if you need to get to the fleet terminal, it'll take about 25 mins, I'd suggest take a cab, which only costed me 7 bucks.
The new owner has done a great job to turn the place around and I'll stay there next time to Cairns.

This Best western is good value for money. I stayed here for 4 days. It is a bit of a walk (about 15 minutes) to the CBD/esplanade where all the restaurants etc are. Booking was very easy through their website. Best part is internet is free (as compared to rydges where they charge you).

Rooms were ok - not plush, not bad - just right and comfortable. TV is good - many channels. There is tea-coffee, a small balcony. Air con was very loud! so I switched it off when sleeping!

Traveled to Cairns with my husband and two other couples. The location is a bit away from what's happening. We walked quite a bit to find a restaurant the first two nights and then we ate at the hotel and wished we had had dinner there all four nights. Excellent food for such a small dining room. We ate by the pool after a nice swim.
