“Great Option for Budget Travelers in Cairns!!!”
Reviewed 19 November 2011

This is a great place to stay in Cairns, walkable to the main drag and seaside area, with quiet rooms and great service. I really appreciated the kind manager/owner who was so sweet and helpful. She went out of her way to help us out on a couple of occasions, and that kind of customer service is rare these days. While our room was in need of renovations, the hotel was working on a massive renovation project. Once the renovations are done, this would be a "5-star" rating on Trip Advisor!

However, we had a most pleasant and helpful temporary manager, and he and his staff did all they could to make our stay comfortable. We even had a lift down to the marina for our trip to the Reef

Bit "motel" style, but decent, comfortable, rooms - agree that turned up the air con was a bit noisy (fortunately it was not too hot overnight during our stay).

Continental (help yourself) breakfast at A$8.50 decent value. Free internet use (hotel PC available in lobby), and laundrette available.

All in all good value, reasonable close to the action (Esplanade/shopping/station)

EVERYONE NEEDS A BREAK, EVEN ROSEMARY. She was away for just 5 days and is now back in full gear with her fantastic staff.

Heritage Cairns was a one night stop over on our reef trip. Having said that we were treated like we had paid $1000 for our room. Front desk was great with directions and luggage storage for late check out. The room was clean nothing fancy, but for the price well above expectations. I even left my toiletries in the room and they hotel held them for a week until my return from diving. They even emailed me to check what to do with them. Great value and highly recommend for quick stopover.

We used the Heritage as a base for our time in Cairns when we weren't on a liveaboard dive trip, and it was perfect. It isn't super-luxe and the furniture/decor is a little tired, but we had a suite with a mini-kitchenette, safe, ironing board, a very decent bathroom with stupendous water pressure (although oddly low-mounted shower heads - both of us are over five ten so had to bend our knees to get our heads wet!) and a king size bed. Aircon in both the bedroom and living room worked perfectly and the little balcony was a nice extra.

There's also a jacuzzi and mini-pool for guests to use - can't really fault this for the cost. The big plus is Rosemary, who will bend over backwards to help your trip be perfect.

The management at the Heritage Cairns is very friendly and helpful. They provided great suggestions. The room was comfortable and clean. The hotel is very reasonably priced. I was very happy with my experience and would stay here again.

The hotel is located outside of the main downtown region of Cairns. It is about a 15 minute walk to get to anything worthwhile. It worked fine for us as we were staying in Cairns as a jumping point for nearby activities. The pool area was small, so if you're looking to spend the day near the water, plan on going down to the Promenade.

Great little hotel about 5 minutes walk from the Esplanade where the main restaurants etc are. Really helpful reception staff with lots of local knowledge. On a quiet street so no worries about road noise though the air con was a bit on the noisy side. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to be about the same

After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, my husband & I finally decided to spend our first 4 nights of a 5 week tour at the Heritage Hotel.

We were not disappointed.

Rosemary is an excellent manager of the hotel, who is full of life and has a great sense of humour. The hotel is delightful, and every need catered for. The decor is bright & cheerful, the room was very comfortable and there are even laundry facilities (AUD$3 for a full washing machine load)

The hotel is a short walk (5 mins) to the Esplanade, which means it is very quiet at night- bliss!

We are really grateful to Rosemary for driving us to the Botanical Garden/Centenary Lakes - it was a real help - something that would not happen here in the UK. We did not hire a car for the short period of time we were in Cairns, and were going to walk, but Rosemary suggested that she drop us off there and we could catch a bus back - this worked extremely well. I would suggest that anyone wanting to visit the garden/lakes obtain a bus timetable prior to the visit.

For information purposes - I recommend the following restaurants : Cafe Thailand, Corner Aplin St/The Esplanade & Donnini's Ciao Italia, The Pier Marketplace. Both had delicious food and not too expensive.

If anyone wants to go to Yorkeys Knob - Krokodillos @ 459 Varley St. is exquisite food at very reasonable prices.

I would like to point out that Australia is VERY expensive. Bananas £10 per kilo, a 3 course meal is likely to cost £60 per head at Barnacle Bills on the Esplanade, a mediocre restaurant although full of atmosphere.

The Esplanade also has filter water points, where you can top up your water bottles free of charge. This is great when you are out bird watching/walking all day in temperatures in the late twenties/early thirties.
