“Don't look any further: Stay here!”
Reviewed 26 December 2010

You would never guess that manager Rosemary and here family did not own the hotel: they took better care of us than ANY hotel I have ever stayed in.

It started raining after we began walking to dinner, and Andrew went looking for us so he could get us out of the elements and drop us at the restaurant - and then picked us up.

I wanted to buy a small box of cereal, and Rosemary went into her kitchen and poured me some from her own stock.

I could go on and on about the care we had here. We truly felt like a LOVED long lost family member.

The hotel itself is very nice and clean and close to the beach and shops.

I cannot recommend highly enough. This is where you want to stay.

We stayed in the Heritage for three nights, having been seduced by the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. Our expectations were therefore high, and were not only met in full, but exceeded. Our room was an executive suite with jacuzzi and two balconies, and was spacious and very comfortable, particularly the large double bed (we recently bought ourselves a very expensive and comfortable bed back home so we are now very fussy!) and the luxurious sofa and armchairs with extendable footrest. There was a huge televison screen - quite a novelty as we don't have a television at all back home, but the picture was so superb we did in fact give in to temptation and turn it on a few times. The bathroom was very large, with a separate shower as well as the jacuzzi, which we greatly enjoyed using. Sadly the rainy season had begin so we were not able to take advantage of the two balconies, or indeed of the swimming pool below, which although quite small, looked very inviting, having been beautifully landscaped in tropical style. The decor of the hotel evokes Papua New Guniea, however it is not overdone, and is just enough to give the place a slightly exotic atmosphere. There is not a proper restaurant, but a continenal breakfast is provided if required, either in or just outside the foyer. We had this each morning, and it comprised freshly made plunger coffee with delicously light fresh warm croissants and a muffin. If you really want a stomach-stretching buffet you can get it at a restaurant a couple of minutes walk away.

When we arrived there was free internet in the reception area but you had to pay for wi-fi in the room. However the system changed during our stay so that only two hours use per day is free. This is because some guests had apparently been monopolising it to download material, so we consider the new system quite reasonable/

But as previous reviewers have indicated, the big plus fact for this hotel is the helpfulness of the management and staff, who always go the extra mile for their guests. While we were one of our fellow-guests was an elderly lady whose husband had been take ill, and she was being ferried here and there by the manageress in her own car, to try and sort out new flights and so on. In our own case, happily, we had no need of any chauffering services. However, when we booked a restaurant for our last evening, we were offered a lift when the taxi did not appear - although in fact it turned up shortly. We also had excellent help and advice in booking a couple of trips and finding out the bus time table for a visit to Palm Cove. There are a number of companies offereing more or less the same trips and it was very useul to have advice on which to choose.

All in all we loved the hotel and the people, and would not hesitate to go back next time we are in Cairns - hopefully in the not too distant future. Our thanks to all concerned for helping to make our visit so successful.

On arrival hotel staff were very kind and got us our room immediatly. Hotel was very clean and it was very nice to have A/C after being in some hotels that did not have it. The room itself was modern and very clean. Location was good with just a small walk to the boardwalk. While I stayed at the Heritage Cairns I accidently forgot my iPhone in the hotel lobby. I realized my mistake when I was already on the flight to Sydney so on my arrival in Sydney I phoned the hotel and the staff there were able to locate the phone. My flight back to Canada was the next day so upon arrival in Canada I emailed the Heritage Cairns and arranged to have the phone mailed back. There were several issues with the post service and delays but during this time a particular staff member of the Heritage Cairns was very patient with the situation and even offered to take personal time to make sure that my phone was returned to me. She stayed in constant email communication and her efforts are very much appreciated as the information on the phone would not have been able to be replaced. The effort displayed by the staff was surprising and I would not even think for a second of staying anyplace else in Cairns. I can not thank them enough.

As budget hotels go, this was a pretty good place, The location was reasonably good as it was a short walk to either the CBD, or Esplanade, but the walk was through a short stretch that was too quiet and barren at night. Prices were really good for a family suite, with the twin bedroom being separate from the living room that included the Queen bed, mini-kitchen, TV and sofa. Quiet, clean, wireless internet (for a fee). The bathroom was large and had a nice strong shower, which would have been perfect if you're shorter than 5 feet tall (as the shower head was mounted very low). The aircon in our room dripped onto the bed, so we had to move the bed. The decor is rather dated -- 80s pastels, and the balcony was tiny.

My husband, adult daughter and I stayed here a few days ago and were quite pleased with the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very large and the location was good. Overall it was a very pleasant stay and we would definitely go back.

Very friendly and helpful front desk staff. arrived early dropped off bags and went for a walk as our room was not ready (we new this, because we were early, no problems).
collected room key. bed was made up as king. had asked for twin when booked over the phone. reception staff went out of their way to find us another room. she checked on the other floors but said our original room was in a better location, so she called housekeeping and had them change the king into a twin (the king was just 2 beds pushed together anyway). we also booked a couple of tours with them. overall very pleased we choose to stay at this hotel. good for the price also.

Spent three nights. Only 20 minutes from airport ($20 taxi) and 20 minutes walk from main shopping/entertainment area. Just far enough away from all the crowds and noise. Staff was very helpful/friendly. They can book most attractions and arrange for pickup. Had opportunity to talk to about a dozen other travelers in Cairns and compared notes -- all thought Heritage was the better deal.
