“My Best Stay Ever!”
Reviewed 27 December 2009

We been recommeded to this hotel from one of our friend who leave in Cairns. We so impressed with what we had been experienced during our stay. Tower Queen were so spacious and with private balcony and a plus for the cleanliness that they maintain in every corners of the room. Receptionist were so helpful with our Tour booking and transport enquiry. We had a chance to rented one of the smart car by paying $30.00 per day for insurance to drive around the city plus around the beaches which really make our free day worth. We also had a chance to dine in hotel restaurant with their signature dishes - Hotrock dinner, we ordered seafood hotrock dinner and beef hotrock dinner, the very own big piece of quality raw meat on hotrock were so impressed and you have 3 different choice of sauce to choose from to dip your own temperature meat. This hotel had been given us a tumb up We definately will be back to this hotel. With the price that we paid, we definately had spend it at the right location and right hotel. Be back next year!

This hotel is used every day by the big coach operators and if you are on your own you are second class. As others have said the photos are very flattering. Our room had windows that were so high you could not see out, but it was big. Breakfast is Ok unless you are unlucky enough to arrive after the coach party, in which case you are ignored, have to set your own table and have to go looking for cutlery etc. Receptionsits are friendly but could be more efficient, everything seems too much trouble.

Arrived early in the morning after an overnight flight. Inevitably, the room wasn't ready - can't blame them for that, until we discovered that the incumbent of our room had been given a late check-out! After some delay and fuss, we were given an upgrade (they said) and we able to check-in at 2pm.

No help with the bags, very slow lift (elevator), and the impression given generally by the reception area and the receeptionist were not favourable.

The room was spacious and decently furnished, but lacked hanging space. The wooden shutters did not keep the light out very effectively. The bathroom was small and not up to the same standard, though adequate.

Losing patience with the lift one day, we used the stairs, and found at least one of the fire doors locked.

The staff were friendly in a typical Aussie way, but not very obliging in terms actual providing much in the way of service. Dinner was pricey, but the food quality was nothing exceptional. Buffet breakfast was OK, but nothing more.

Overall, OK, but don't expect too much. The website photographs flatter it enormously!

The hotel room (twin room containing a queen and single) was very clean and the main room was large with wonderful decor and comfortable. The bathroom, however, is best described as just adequate and tired-looking. There isn't any room for hanging your clothes and the screen for the shower over bath only just kept the water off the floor. Peculiarly, the hotel offers shower gel and conditioner but no shampoo!!

Another feature I'd like to point out is that breakfast was only discounted but not fully included in the room rate. You can choose the standard or a hot breakfast. It seemed to me that the full price of the standard breakfast (the usual cold cereal, toast, some baked good, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee, etc.) is far too pricey (close to AUD$20) for what was on offer.

The location is great: a short walk from the main street and restaurants.

Overall, the experience was good but not spectacular.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Cairns for one day before and one day after a dive trip on the Spirit of Freedom, and it was perfect. The rooms were well appointed, the bed was really comfy and it was within walking distance of everything. They held our luggage during our dive trip and we got a free upgrade (to a spa room) on the second night. Breakfast was included with our room and it was a delicious way to start the day. There are many accommodation options in Cairns, and this was definitely the best value. We will be back!!

The website shows a 4+ hotel which is in actually a 2. Upon arrival, with many bags as we were traveling from the States and staying for over 2 weeks, there was water cascading down from the balcony above the lobby check in. (I'm just going to number this..)
1. No bellman to help with baggage
2. A front desk attendee who didn't really want to be doing her job
3. STAIRS to the elevator with huge pieces of luggage and no one to help with them.
4. dingy hallways
5. A semi-updated room with lovely bed linens, but furniture that hadn't been updated since the 1970s. (at least it looked this way)
6. Moldy smelling bathroom
7. a King Suite with balcony and no view of anything paradise worthy. just the street... for $250.00 a night... and very very small.

While the photographs of the hotel on their website were obviously taken by a very very good photographer who has the ability to make things seem lovelier than they are, they are not anywhere near a 4 star resort. Expect something less appealing than a Marriot or Holiday Inn.

I complained about the room when I got in... was not offered a discount until I said I didn't want to stay there. The manager made me pay for one night, even though the hotel didn't live up to what they say it is on their website. But, big deal... I was NOT sleeping there.

I called the Pullman Casino, they had one room available THANK GOD. And even though the bathroom was designed for the handicapped, it was legions better than where we would have been. The Pullman is a true 4 star resort. Even though it's a bigger resort and there is a Casino inside, it was polished! And it was absolutely worth losing $194.00 to the Hotel Cairns not to have to sleep there.

Very convenient location near shops, restaurants and car hire companies. Well connected to airport, major routes and coastline.
Very clean, comfortable room with huge ceiling fan and cool marble bathroom.
The restaurant serves excellent food and has a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere, being partly open-air and surrounded by enormous tropical plants. The evening pianist adds to the ambience.
Would thorouoghly recommend it to everyone, including friends and family.
