Stayed a couple of nights--no problems at all. Rooms very decent, ambiance casual but refined, location was just fine. The service was wonderful--we forgot a shirt (of course, brand new) and when we called back from our next stop they located it, and mailed it back to us in Canada. We really appreciated that 'above and beyond"--it would have been real easy to just say never seen it, or not check. They offered umbrellas, Smart Cars to borrow, advice--would recommend to others.

My partner and I decided to stay at the Hotel Cairns to try it after reading some of the comments and recommendations. Right from check in we were very disappointed with the hotel.

The only positive with this resort is that it is located in a great spot... very close to the city.

The room was very uncomfortable and dirty. The bathroom had mold on the tiles and large amounts of dust in the aircon vents.

The Hotel is very loud and not peaceful at all. The windows and walls are very thin and you hear every noise while trying to sleep. The hotel is located on a busy road and the traffic goes all night.

In the morning the housekeeping staff shout and yell in the hallway waking up the whole hotel. The houskeeping staff then move furniture on the tiles making a horrible noise.

The housekeeping staff tired to access our room while we were getting ready and didnt even knock before opening the door.

It was a complete disappointment given that there are numerous better quality hotels located around this hotel that are a muvh more pleasent stay.

Stayed at the Hotel Cairns between Christmas and New Year. The staff were very good when we needed something and the hotel itself was really great. The position in town is excellent. It is an easy five minute stroll to the waterfront and boardwalk and a couple more to the Esplanade, where all the shops and restaurants are. That few minutes walk however means that it is pretty quiet at the hotel compared to those hotels just off the Esplanade. Depends what you like I suppose!
The room itself was clean and nicely appointed, with a balcany overlooking a plaza. We had a deal that included breakfast, and it was excellent. Not sure I would pay the very high price separately, but we certainly enjoyed it. We also got a complimentary dinner at the hotel's restaurant (a cooking of food at your table on a hot rock!) which was really good. The restaurant is worth a visit regardless.
The thing about this hotel which is really the difference was the free use of one of the hotel's six "Smart" cars. All you needed was to book one with reception (and there was at least one or two available every time we checked, which was twice). You had a choice of paying $30 a day for insurance (which cut the deductable down to $250 if you had an accident) or paying nothing and being responsible for up to a $5000 deductable. Other than that, you just filled it up before you returned it. As long as your drivers license was printed in English or you had an International license, you were set. We borrowed one all day to travel through Port Douglas and Mossman and one on the day we checked out to visit Kuranda and the Barron Gorge (excellent waterfall).
Overall the hotel was excellent. It wasn't the cheapest by any means, but the accomodation was very good, the staff were helpful, the location was excellent and the use of the cars was outstanding.

We had a great stay in The Hotel Cairns.Right from the moment we arrived from the Airport to the moment we left.
We stayed 5 nights & had an absolute ball, mind you we only slept there a few hours a nite(to bust out on the town).
Room were clean & tidy,it is a bit old & I will be honest & say that it really would be only a 3 to 3.5 star & for the price there are better, but we enjoyed our stay anyway.
While your there make sure you use the Smart cars available to hire for $30 aud per day. These cars are very econimical & extremely funny to drive around in,get the convertible one which we had, great for cruising up the coast road to Mossman Gorge.
Breakfast was great each morning, plenty to choose from.
Overall, top place to stay & very close to esplanade & night life.

Right in the centre of town convenient for us. The rooms have DVD players and special amenities. The room I had was in a simple modern style with tranquil colours.
I love the smart cars, so cute thank The hotel allow us to experience a resort-like atmosphere with out leaving the downtown area.

We liked this hotel although it was more of a motel style hotel. The resturant was great but the staff was very unfriendly and almost seemed annoyed when we had questions. We thought it was very clean and liked the cars they had availabe for rent. The claim their free when you stay but you pay for insurance which is around thirty dollars. Still a ok deal.

We been recommeded to this hotel from one of our friend who leave in Cairns. We so impressed with what we had been experienced during our stay. Tower Queen were so spacious and with private balcony and a plus for the cleanliness that they maintain in every corners of the room. Receptionist were so helpful with our Tour booking and transport enquiry. We had a chance to rented one of the smart car by paying $30.00 per day for insurance to drive around the city plus around the beaches which really make our free day worth. We also had a chance to dine in hotel restaurant with their signature dishes - Hotrock dinner, we ordered seafood hotrock dinner and beef hotrock dinner, the very own big piece of quality raw meat on hotrock were so impressed and you have 3 different choice of sauce to choose from to dip your own temperature meat. This hotel had been given us a tumb up We definately will be back to this hotel. With the price that we paid, we definately had spend it at the right location and right hotel. Be back next year!
