“Great motel, nice rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2012

We spent 5 days in this nice hotel. We had a nice and spacious room. The rooms are self contained and offer a complete equipped kitchen, large fridge etc. The motel offers a shuttle bus to the center of cairns we didin't use it because we had a car, for which they have enough free parking. The also have a great tourdesk that help you and advice you on all the nice things you can do in the region, especially the great barrier reef trips. They even bring you to the reef terminal for free, great service.
The (saltwater) pool and spa are also nice. The offer als WIFI internet access which has a good speed, however, in my opinion WIFI should be free in hotels, they now charge you $7 for 2 hours. We had a room that could be connected to the next room, for family use I assume, the negative side of that is that you can hear the people that are in the room next to you, especially the sounds of tv and children that are crying.

Room Tip: We had a room that could be connected to the next room, for family use I assume, the negative side o...

Thank you, it is very important to us that our guests receive value for money and we try to ensure we match the tours we book for our guests to their interests. We also try to work our guests tour itinerary based on the best weather conditions for day of their reef trip. With lunar eclipse happening in Cairns shortly, there is a large number of tours on offer for this special event so we are watching the weather closely. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and liked our motel, we hope that if you are in Cairns again, we will again, enjoy your company.

After diving three days we returned to Reef Palms for four more days to explore Cairns and the Atherton Tableland rainforests.it was clean, comfortable and spacious. The hot tub was a plus though the pool was cold. We were on first floor with an outside small patio space. With a kitchenette, we were able to make our own breakfast avoiding the $10 extra. Extra fees for wifi and laundry were reasonable. The owners were extremely helpful with touring beyond the usual tourism rip-offs. It is family owned and run. We apologized for our unplanned 1 AM arrival and they treated us well. You get as you give so be nice. Downtown is a 20 minute walk but walking along the Esplanade is a delight.

Room Tip: First floor.

My daughter and grandson stayed at Reef Palms for 5 nights checking in 8th October. Eric/Barry not sure, the lovely chap that sits closest to the main entrance was brillant, helpful and pleasant all the time. We were given our room key but alas I didn't want the balcony that overlooked the housekeeping mops etc etc so back to reception to request a room change..that was done without to much hassle by Sharon. much better room upstairs overlooking the pool area.
My grandson enjoyed the pool on many occassions.
The room was quite adequate for our stay.
Now JANE...you are the person that really really stood out at Reef Palms. Thankyou so much for your lovelyness, your awesome sense of humor, and just obviously you just being you. My daughter and I were sad that we didn't get to say goodbye properly as we didn't return from our special dinner at the Salthouse till after you had finished your shift...You take care x
Thanks for the airport/town dropoffs, saved some $$$ on taxi's.

Hi Lorraine,
Thank you for your review, Jane is definitely a gem and we love her to bits! It was great that you were able to travel to Cairns with your children and as always, it is a pleasure to have our New Zealand neighbours come and visit. The weather has been very windy since you left and we have even had a little drizzle which was welcomed as it has been very dry here. Take care, and hope to see you again sometime in the future.

My friend and I stayed a total of 6 nights and found it a great place to stay. The room was clean and spacious and the outdoor pool very useful during the hot days! Although it is a small distance out of town, there is pick up service throughout the day and the owners are more than happy to explain the bus routes. Both Sharon and David were extremely friendly and helpful, we booked our reef and rainforest tours through them, both of which were brilliant and good value. Thank you!

David and I are very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. Yes, the local buses are very easy to catch and the bus stop is just around the corner, less than a 5 minute walk away. This is a great alternative when in between our guest shuttle times and a great way to see the Northern Beaches such as Palm Cove, The Botanical Gardens or the Cairns Zoo.

The owners were very nice and accommodating. They made recommendations for alternative reef exploration when they found the one we had chosen was full. The room was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed.

The room was large and clean. Plenty of room for the 3 of us not falling over each other. Sharon and David could not of been more helpful checking the weather conditions so as not to send you out on the reef on a windy day. There are a couple of pub's within easy walking distance for dinner so we didn't bother cooking the entire time we stayed. Reasonably priced accommodation I would stay again if back in Cairns.

Room Tip: Ask for a downstairs suite if available if you do not like stairs !!

Thank you for your review, we are happy you enjoyed your stay with us. The weather for the Reef can be tricky which is why we recommend that our guests book on arrival so we can check the weather for them. The weather this week has been wonderful for the Reef, calm water and no wind which was in direct contrast to last week with 25 knot plus winds making Reef trips challenging.

Large clean room with everything I could have needed for my stay. Nice swimming pool area too. Less than a 20 minute walk from the town centre made it a lovely place to stay. Sharon, David and all the rest of the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I was too early to check-in on my first day but it was no problem atall to freshen up, leave my baggage and go into town. I was even offered a beach towel to use at the Lagoon and was given a map and directions. Sharon helped me booked all the trips I wanted to do and always enquired how my day went. I had an early domestic flight but it was not a problem for David to take my to the airport earlier than the advertised time for the free shuttle bus they provide. The personal service really made it for me and was touched that David said that his guests being happy makes him happy. Really excellent stay and I would definatly return.

I admire guests who travel the world on their own and David and I love to hear about their days out on tour, it not only gives us feed back on the tours we are recommending, but also allows us to share in the experience you have had. David was happy to accommodate your slightly earlier departure to the airport as we didn't have any other 8am drop offs to do. We hope you can come back soon.
