Good food very enjoyable once it arrived. I waited and had to chase up my second course. My waitron was very efficient and chatty . The original seater did not bring me water as said and when it did arrive was warm no ice.

“Not to good”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2013 via mobile

We went for lunch, ordered our food and wine. The wine was disgusting and best and were left sitting for 35 minutes before our food finally came! And when it did come I got three hairs in it! One on the side of my plate and two in my wrap not impressed WONT be going back!

“Worst dish ever; overpriced and underwhelming”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 November 2013

My wife and I decided to try Dundee's out during our recent holiday in Cairns, given it's great location on the waterfront. We had been warned that sticking with a steak was likely to be the best option for this place, but against this advice, decided to try some seafood. We started with oysters, which were fine. However, the mains left much to be desired. The meals were greatly overpriced - something special is expected for over $40 and this was not what we got. I ordered the special of the day - a seafood green curry. Green the curry was not - it was a very unappealing grey colour. The most ridiculous part of this dish, however, was that the seafood was all served in it's shell, including a large yabby protruding from the top of the bowl. It was impossible to eat without literally having to put your hands into the dish, which is not what I expect to have to do when paying near on $40 a dish and especially not when eating a curry. I'd suggest whoever prepared this has made no attempt to eat this themselves; you just wouldn't serve this rubbish if you had.

My wife had the barramundi and this too was far from impressive, for over $40. To add insult to injury, we had to wait over an hour between our entree and main. Although our waiter attempted to manage the situation as best he could and admittedly we received a complementary drink, this was not enough to salvage any semblance of an enjoyable evening. We attempted to raise some awareness of our discontent as we made payment, however, were treated with utter contempt by the waiter at the till. This place was such a disappointment - in contrast to numerous other restaurants we dined at in Cairns. There are much better places with better food, at a better price.

“Excellent Food and service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013 via mobile

Arrived at a packed restaurant with no reservation, they found a table for us, brought us a drink (a bottle in fact), took our order and within 15mins we were enjoying a beautifully cooked steak on the waterfront. Great locale, great people!

“Best meal we had in Cairns - and where to get a decent selection of bushtucker grub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2013 via mobile

Dundee's immediately appealed when I saw their 'Australian Fair' dish - completely for the tourists, but cooked well and consisting of buffalo steak, emu chipolata, crocodile and kangaroo satay skewers and barramundi fillet. It lets you tick off all the bushtucker food in one dish, which you then get a certificate for.

This is one of their main selling points, the other being the waterfront view. Booking is recommended - we were turned away on Saturday and booked for the following night. Service is good without being outstanding - staff are very friendly, but didn't come over that often once we'd ordered and had our food to check how we were or top up wine. It's not rushed or slow - good pace.

Food is good - large menu with a wide variety of seafood, grill and pasta dishes; there should be something for everyone. Also a whole section for 'bushtucker', culminating in the Australian Fair dish mentioned above for under $40. My starter of a salmon and avocado tortilla stack was very original and enjoyable, and my partner had the Thai seafood curry off the specials - he said this was very good, but did require taking apart whole yabbies, King prawns etc. which took a while and was a messy job! I realise this is to be expected in fresh seafood, but it was all already in the bowl covered in Thai curry sauce.

Desserts were also good without being great. The passionfruit cheesecake was nice but surpassed by the crumbled honeycomb on top, and the white chocolate and raspberry brownie was tasty (sickly chocolate overkill, but it's arguably what some people go for). Instead of a dessert menu they bring a tray with a sample of each to the table so you can see what you're ordering, which is a nice touch.

Photos of all courses are uploaded. Overall a good meal without being outstanding, but still the best meal we had in Cairns - it's worth doing this as a special occasion or on your Saturday night if you're visiting etc.
