We ordered the seafood di mare. The meal did not contain any scallops nor a whole lobster as it was advertised to include. The seafood was obviously not fresh. Prawns were mushy, half lobster and morton bay bugs were dry and chewy. Overall a very poor meal. Would never go back nor recommend to our family or friends. Extremely over priced for what we were served.

We ate here several times whilst staying in Cairns. Being a large family group we were always unsure of numbers. The staff accepted this with good grace and flexibility, accommodating latecomers and extras.

The FOOD was great. The menu offers some really interesting exotic combinations as well as 'normal' dishes. Our group included some chefs and all enjoyed their meals.

Food was correctly cooked, presented well, moderate portion sizes, tasty sauces, exotic Australian game meats, seafood, steak, lamb, some vego options.

The ocean front strip in Cairns is vibey, if a little in your face with the restaurants seemingly competing with each other for custom. We are vegetarians, or vegaquarians if we can't find good veggo food. Kani's has a big blackboard out the front with the menu and prices and on that basis we decided to eat here.

It was an apalling experience. Once we were seated the waiting staff forgot about us. It took 10 mins before we were given a menu which revealed that the prices were actually more expensive that what was on the blackboard! Then it was another 10-15 mins before we got someone's attention to give our order. Then a good 20 minutes for our entrees to arrive only to find that they were mostly cold. We'd seen them come out 5 mins earlier and the waiter looking around trying to find who they belonged to. They obviously sat on a bench somewhere for the intervening 5 mins before they were served to us. I ordered the scallops which were quite nice but as I say, only luke warm.

To top it off our mains were ordinary (we both ordered pastas) and the whole thing terribly over-priced. For that bill, you can get a much better meal elsewhere!

We dropped in on this place after a long day of snorkeling. Very hungry and it looked like it would have good food. We ordered one of their specialties. It was very overcooked and without any taste. Was very disappointed for the premium price they charged ($90 for 2).
Never going back to this one.

My husband and I went to Kanis while visiting Cairns during our honeymoon. We hadn't had a chance to check reviews and were hungry. The restaurant had a good crowd so we figured we'd try it. I ordered lobster bisque since it was near the water. My husband ordered pizza. The pizza was fine, but the bisque was extremely watered down. I don't understand why a restaurant would put something on the menu if they're not going to do it well. It was like a bowl of salted water. Yuck!
I thought the food was bad but the service was worse. They don't have enough wait staff so we waited at least half an hour for our check. We asked for our check twice. Once the check finally did come, we ended up walking up to the counter to try to speed the process up. The waitress still made us wait there and didn't even ring us up properly. I left hungry and extremely irritated. I wish I had checked the reviews prior to dinner time.
