“Landing in tranquility”

This gem is located in the most stunning tropical garden created by host Mark and Farlie. We were planning a trip to Cairns and having seen the garden featured on Better Homes and Gardens we immediately checked it out online and booked. Tabu is better than any review. Everything about Tabu is the garden from its alfresco living room deck, the semi open air ensuite to the massive bedroom window that draws the tropical masterpiece in. The most difficult part of the Tabu Experince is having to leave. Mark and Farlie are the most gracious of hosts and deliver the freshly prepared breakfast basket each morning which we found got us though lunch as well. To top it all off being located in Freshwater all the "To Dos" in Cairns are on your doorstep. This is a must stay for anyone visiting Cairns. Can't wait till we return.

“The most beautiful B&B in Cairns, North Queensland”

We are so grateful that we saw Tabu featured on Better Homes & Gardens because it resulted in us booking for a post-Conference stay last week (Aug2017) at this most beautiful Bed & Breakfast.
We loved everything about this accommodation – the house and its simple and tasteful decor, the wonderful jungle garden with pool, the alfresco living room deck, the amazing semi-open bathroom – just everything! It provoked such a relaxed and serene sense that we were very reluctant to leave at the end of our stay!
The gardens are a massive achievement, they are just so beautiful! Full of tropical wonders and delights - I must have taken hundreds of photos just walking around and discovering all the little nooks and crannies that make up this gorgeous space! It’s scale, textures and colours are just perfect.
We would highly recommend this B&B for anyone wanting a quiet, secluded and restful break when visiting North Queensland (Cairns area). We found Freshwater to be really well located base within Cairns – close to things that matter (food, sightseeing, etc) yet it feels like you are alone in the jungle once you enter the garden!
Thank you to Mark and Fairlie who are amazing, attentive and gracious hosts. They saw us wanting for nothing.

What a wonderful place to stay! If you are going to Cairns look no further! Mark and Farlie's home and garden are testament to their artistic talent - stylish and exotic. They are a great couple who gave us a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The accommodation is really stunning as are the breakfasts! Our stay was truly relaxing - we didn't want to leave!
Thank you so much Mark and Farlie!

Lovely unique room; beautiful setting; fantastic gardens. Very nice breakfast basket. Great location; easy access and close to but away from the tourist center of town. Mark and Fairlie are wonderful hosts. Highly recommended, and would stay there again if we come back to the area.

We loved our four-night stay at this unique bed and breakfast accommodation. At the end of each touring day, it was a joy to return to our serene, private cottage surrounded by lush tropical plants and the sounds of nature. The spaces, both inside and out, have been thoughtfully put together to be shared with others. Thank you, Fairlie and Mark, for your warm hospitality, for taking such good care of us and, of course, for those wonderful breakfasts on the deck. We will always remember Tabu as a very special place.

Thankyou Susan for your kind words. It was lovely indeed to have you and Don stay. The Frogmouth and his wife send their regards and we hope you will give our regards to Minnesota. (Seems like some very nice people live in that part of the world!).

“Peaceful paradise in an artistic jungle”

My husband and I don't usually do the bed and breakfast thing, as we are typically so on the go. Tabu's beauty forces you to slow down and enjoy the tropical landscape. Mark and Fairlie perfectly balanced care and attentiveness with allowing us time to soak in the wonder of their B&B. Their breakfast was outstanding, the room and bathroom were a tropical oasis. The back yard garden is an outstanding personal "zen" space and has redefined gardening as an art form for me. I can go on and on. We could make the trip to the opposite end of the earth just for a longer stay at this place. Thank you Mark and Fairlie!

“supremely comfortable and lush”
Reviewed 30 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

We stayed for 3 nights and were made to feel very comfortable and welcome by Mark and Fairlie. The surrounding gardens are amazing. You will need your own transport as it is out of the main Cairns CBD, but this means its quiet and very relaxed. Would stay again in a heartbeat!
