We are grey nomads - retirees who travel as a twosome and seek to enjoy the natural environment and interesting food in situations that are hassle- and hype-free. Port Douglas, its climate, beach and access to the Great Barrier Reef, has great appeal during a (southern hemisphere) winter. For accommodation we chose Palm Villas based on its brochure description and its four star rating in trusted guide books. And, we chose well.
Palm Villas was exactly as self-described: focused on couples or solo travellers (no children), the building is well designed and scrupulously cleaned, the management was impressively helpful, competent, and efficient while remaining unobtrusive. Each apartment was large with ample room to spread your travelling gear, and included a large balcony on which to enjoy breakfast, and lunch. The location was very convenient, just one street way from the busy and noisy Macrossan street, the location of the best dining establishments, and just 500 m from the 'Four Mile Beach'. In addition, the tariff was most reasonable. We stayed four seven nights, enjoyed every day, and were most reluctant to travel on. We will return for a longer stay in winter 2011.
