“Fantastic day on the reef”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

The crew, the sites and the small number (80ish - some boats take 400!) of people made this a fantastic way to spend a day on the reef. The crew were knowledgable, attentive and helpful throughout the day. I wasn't allowed to dive for medical reasons but this was well handled by the crew, and I spent a day happily snorkelling while my husband did a couple of dives. We saw a great range of sea life, including a turtle and shark, and the crew happily helped us identify the shark when we were aboard again. A highly recommended day out.

“A great day out on the reef”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

This is the second time I've been out on Poseidon and it was another great day. We had originally booked to go earlier in the week, however, due to the 40 km/h winds, we postponed the trip - at the crews suggestion- for 4 days. I was really impressed with the flexibility of being able to move my booking around.
Whilst July is an awesome time to visit the reef on Poseidon due to the fantastic water quality, you should check the wind speed before you venture out. Anything above 25km/h is likely to bring on some nasty bouts of sea sickness. It takes about 90 minutes to get out to the reef and on our trip (we had winds of 20 km/h) we had a few people lose their breakfasts over the side of the boat.

“Fun day. Comfortable boat.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

This was our second reef cruise for our honeymoon. (first one was Wavelength). We took the trip during the first week of June. This was when the company was acquired by Quicksilver.

Poseidon had a big crew and the service was very friendly and helpful. The boat was spacious and comfortable. The tour offered both snorkeling and scuba. We did both. We snorkeled the first and third stop and did scuba the second stop. Harold was our scuba guide and he was very informative, easy going and helpful.

* Colorful reef
* Interesting fish (saw a shark)
* Cool pictures to take home. There is also a photographer on board who will swim around and take pictures of you.
* Snorkel tour available
* 3 stops one hour each

Based on my limited time at the reef, I thought there were more fish at the Agincourt reef compared to the Opal reef. But the reefs in Opal reef seem slightly more interesting. This may also be due to the day and weather.

The ride to GBR was pretty bumpy due to the weather. You may want to take medication and hang out at the back of the boat.

Overall - recommend this company.

“Mixed experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

The reef is amazing! The Poseidon takes you to 3 different dive sites, all great locations. The water was rough so take the crews advice if you are prone to sea sickness and use the travel calm medication they recommend - it makes all the difference to how much you enjoy the day. While some of the crew were fantastic and very customer focused - others were very indifferent or down right rude - yelling and belittling people when simple encouragement would be just as effective. I think that there is definitely more of a focus on those wanting to scuba dive and this cruse may suit them best. As a snorkeler you are given a thorough safety briefing, but otherwise mostly, left to your own devices.

The catering is very good and there was plenty of food to go around. The boat can get a bit crowded though and there were always lines of people waiting to use the bathrooms and in rough weather there was not enough seating undercover for everyone.

My advice - if you are a snorkeler - shop around.

“Awesome crew....awesome day!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

Really glad we chose this operator, the one thing that really impressed me was that the crew were very friendly and genuinely enjoyed mingling with the people on board. The boat was comfy and the crew were enthusiastic and informative. Best of all the trip didn't feel crowded on the boat or in the water. The food was also very good and there was plenty to eat.
We visited 3 sites and they were all excellent, lots to see, healthy coral and very clear water. Although I have a ticket to Scuba dive, I snorkelled while my friends dived. If you are an above average snorkeler I don't think you will miss much as the site's we visited were mostly shallow and most life appeared to be within the first few meters. It's a great experience free diving in board shorts escpecially if your from somewhere with cold water temperatures like Tasmania so if you visit Port Douglas do not miss this trip!!!!
