BIG4 Port Douglas Glengarry Holiday Park
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 14 June 2013

If your happy to take a short drive from Port Douglas and not be right in town, this park is by far the best value for money we have seen on our travels. Personal lockable ensuites with brand new plumbing, huge kitchen with great clean cooking facilities, shady sites, beautiful near by roads & houses (great for a morning walk or bike ride) and friendly staff.
Thanks Glengarry, having some personal space in the bathroom was exactly what we needed after sharing bathrooms for the last few months!
My only con was that Sandflies are around sundown and sunrise so get your spray out!

Room Tip: Sandflies are around sundown and sunrise so get your spray out!

We were really happy with our stay at this park. Really good facilities (although the tiled floors were a bit slippery in the heavy rain) and camp kitchen with SPOTLESS bbqs, gas cookers, fridges toasters kettles and laundry. We stayed in the wet season and unfortunately the wet tropics
Ives up to their reputation, so whilst the park was lovely and quiet we probably didn't see it at its best.
The pool was fantastic and the waterside a nice addition! Staff were friendly and busy doing lots of maintainence work when we were there.
It is 7km out of port Douglas which could pose an issue for some ppl, Especially if you have a van and don't really want to pack up to drive round but there is plenty to do at the park! this wasn't an issue for us as we only stayed one night.
The free wireless Internet was something we really appreciated, this isn't offered by a lot of places and is great, esp for tourists who are traveling around.

My wife and I stayed here in a camper. It lies off the main road 7 km from Port Douglas itself, just far enough off the road to avoid any traffic noise. The site is well maintained and the facilities spotless. We were there in the rainy season and they sprayed regularly, which kept the bugs under control. The best things about the site are the swimming pool (which became a social centre as evening arrived) and the shade trees. I know of no other campsite with so many tall trees, giving real protection from the sun.

Probably the best Caravan park we have been in Australia.
Due to the Staff who was caring a lot about they guest needs, such as the barbeque area cleaning (spottless) and the way they plant the trip in the way that suits as better!
Thank you

Located off the highway, 7 km fromPort Douglas close enough but still quiet. all sites are pretty close to amenities block and the pool. The girl at the office - Delphine - was extremely helpful, it was a nice change from some other parks we've been to. They are with BIG4 so you get your welcome pack with all the maps and we were shown and given every piece of info we needed. Kitchen and showers are clean. Cape tribulation trip will take 1.5 hr one way. powered sites looked quite shady, though each site could do with a little more room

We stayed for 2 nights in a powered site (own campervan) and were so impressed with the atmosphere of the park. Everyone was super friendly and the pool is fantastic.
It's also very clean - camp kitchen, showers, toilets. Although we arrived late, the staff accommodated us and even guided me as I backed in the van. Can't wait to visit again.

Firstly, this is the most expensive park we have stayed in for a long time and after coming from Crystal Cascades (the friendliest Big 4 we've ever stayed at) in Cairns we were very disappointed with the negative attitude we received from the office.
The unhelpful touring advice was noted and make sure you check out the book exchange policy. We have never seen anything quite like it.
Upon leaving the park my wife was shown an incredibly negative and judgemental attitude by the woman in the office . It put a real sour taste in the mouth, so much so that we would never stay there again. The inflated prices, poor office attitude and distance out of Port Douglas has ensured that.

I am sorry to here that your stay at our park was not as enjoyable as it should have been. We pride our self on being friendly & helpful to our customers & endeavor to offer helpful advice about the area to ensure that our visitors enjoy there stay in our park & Port Douglas.
I was horrified to here that you did not feel you received this friendly welcome & while the staff member is no longer with us, I have spoken to our present staff member to ensure that this does not happen in the future.

I am sorry you think our prices are fairly high but with our Big4 Member Discount which most of our customers receive our prices are actually slightly lower then the other parks in Port Douglas.
I would love to be able to drop our rates further but unfortunately we have a very short season & ever increasing costs associated with keeping a park clean & well maintained.
We also have just put in a new Amenities block, which has a spacious modern kitchen & wonderful family bathrooms, up graded our pool /barbecue area & put a water slide & jumping pillow in for families with children, so I hope we are giving good value for money.
We have also just purchased a bus so that we can offer our customers a complimentary trip into town when they would like to go in for a night out.

We also do offer lower rates for people who stay longer .Many of our clients take advantage of this and return to our park for 1 to 3 months every year enjoying the lovely peaceful Mowbray Valley while only being 7 km from Port Douglas or 3 and a half km away from the beach.

We have a small book exchange , where our customers swap books & and while it is great if some one has a book to exchange, it is not necessary & our customers are quite welcome to take a book to read even if they do not have a book to swap.
I am not sure what happened when you were here but I can only think that the receptionists
who was only with us for a short time, must have been worried we may have run short of books & took the word swap literally. I have explained to the present staff that as long as our customers enjoy reading & at least some leave a book in return I am sure we won’ to run out & that the books are there for all our customers to enjoy as the wish.

Next time you are up our way I hope you will give us another opportunity to prove to you that we are a friendly & worthwhile place to visit.
