“Mould, dark and dirty”
Reviewed 7 December 2013 via mobile

Like other reviewers mentioned each unit is individually owned and you have no idea what you are getting 'til you arrive.

We travelled with other friends who had an upstairs apartment which was in better condition to ours so not all are the same.
Our unit '3' was filthy. The oven was unusable, the fridge door, lounge and kitchen drawers all covered in MOULD!! The floors were so dirty I used a wet towel to wipe my feet be for getting into bed and the towel was black after one use. I always wore shoes from then on.
The TV remote did not work nor did the fan outside on the pool deck.
Our balcony dining area, like all the unit was dark and dirty. We had to turn the lights during the middle of the day in the lounge room.
For a hefty $60 they charge for not washing dishes they should put this towards new - or some -housekeeping staff. Towels any sheets were clean, thankfully!!

The host was lovely and accommodating of my last minute change to a two bed unit however the rest of our stay was not so pleasant. I was embarrassed to have taken my mother there for a 'holiday'

Thank you for your comments. We are very disappointed that you did not raise any of your problems with us during your stay. Doing so would have given us the opportunity to try and resolve your issues to your satisfaction. We work hard to ensure that we provide quality accommodation at an affordable price, and our other reviews support this. From time to time things are overlooked, although never intentionally, and if we become aware of them we promptly seek to rectify them. Finally, we spoke with your mother prior to her departure and she commented that she had enjoyed herself and would return.

Stay here. The Mediterranean is great. I think it is one of the best value for money places to stay in the Queensland tropics. While it is set back from the main street in "Port", less than 10 minutes casual walk, the accommodation is comfortable, and the managers are always keen to help with anything you need. The Mediterranean is fantastic for couples, families or groups, with the larger suites costing less per head than some camp sites in other areas of Australia while offering modern, clean, contemporary styled accommodation in one of the most beautiful areas on earth. A perfect base to use while exploring the area.

Rooms are very airy and well appointed. The pool area is picture perfect as are the gardens. A little far out of the shopping prescient especially if you were getting groceries to cook in your room. But the shuttle buses run all day and most of the night and are a flat price. Just make sure you only pay one way as there are two operators and they are not connected.Your host Craig couldn't do enough to make your stay any better. Providing advice and recommendations on a range of local attractions and things to do to make this a memorable holiday.

Room Tip: Get rooms at the back of the property near the pool.

We stayed in an elite suite and cannot believe we received such style and glamour for so little expense. Everything we needed was provided and the manager was helpful and friendly. Already we have recommended the Mediterranean to others and will definitely stay there again next time we are in Port Douglas.

We stayed here because friends we were going to travel with booked this two bedroom apartment. Unfortunately due to illness, they were unable to travel and unable to cancel the accommodation a week prior to leaving. So it was a little extravagant having a two bedroom apartment for an older couple. As we don't cook on holiday we didn't really need a kitchen either. Ideally it would have been nice if they could have put us in a smaller place and refunded our friends their half of the cost. It is at least a twenty minute walk to town, but they do have buses that run regularly for $4 each to town. The beach is also about twenty minutes walk across the road and cutting through the Sheraton. The wifi can not be accessed in the rooms, so I was spending a lot of time by the pool area even after dark trying to use iPad. Craig was very helpful and friendly. The pool is small, clean, and very cold. The spa pool was also cold, which seemed to be common we found. Not sure why. I found our time here relaxing.

Great place, excellent information from the owners at check in. Most informative. A 10 minute walk to main drag but shuttle bus comes along quite regularly if you can't walk.
Wonderful 2bedroom apartment and great price. Highly recommended.

I stayed here as part of a group of four (two couples) in April in a very impromptu trip to Port Douglas (booked the day I arrived). As someone who likes to spend their weekends in highly priced (usually overpriced) getaways, I must say I was astounded at the value for money of this accommodation. Our two bedroom apartment was lovely and clean and bright. There was a comfy couch, large TV with limited foxtel channels, nice dining furniture inside and on the verandah, and a large and quite modern bathroom. The bedrooms were also large and comfortable and the full-size kitchen was well equipped.
I was not the easiest of guests- I had to check in the evening and check out at 6am, however the manager was friendly and accommodating and it was no hassle at all. There was an extensive selection of pamphlets/brochures detailing activities throughout the cape tribulation, tablelands, and Cairns highlands region which we found useful.
The manager was also helpful in recommending dinner options in town (we ate at Finz and it was great). The accommodation is about a 10 minute walk from the main street of Port Douglas, and a shuttle bus into this area stops right outside the hotel.
We used the pool and spa area and found it to be fantastic and clean.
All in all, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for clean, comfortable rooms that represent exceptional value for money ($145/night for 2 bedroom apartment).
