“A wonderful tropical holiday destination”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

I stayed at the Ramada at Port Douglas for 8 nights in August 2013 and absolutely loved it. I left home at minus 6 degrees and arrived in port Douglas to a beautiful 26 degrees and a warm welcome at reception. I had booked a great deal online and was so delighted to be upgraded to a wonderful apartment when I booked in. The apartment was very spacious with a fully operational kitchen, lounge room, dining area and two bathrooms with shower and bath. The landscaping was tropical and beautiful and it only took about 5 mins to walk to 4 mile beach. The lagoon type of pool next to the bar was gorgeous. I enjoyed eating at the restaurant and the wait staff were friendly and professional.
The reception staff were very helpful with booking day trips to the barrier reef and daintree rainforest. I used the bus shuttles to go into the shopping and restaurant area in port Douglas.

One of the highlights of my stay was having a couple of massages at the ramada tree tops spa which is located in a timber house in the tree tops. The beauticians were so welcoming and talented masseuses as they were able to sort out an acute low back flare up.

Overall I really enjoyed a very relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of Australia. I would recommend the Ramada as a fabulous place for a wonderful break whether you are on your own, in a couple or are visiting with kids.

Room Tip: I think that the rooms facing the pool and bar would be noisy

Pros: staff was very friendly, clean rooms, good air conditioner, nice spa, very good massage

Cons: Front desk understaffed, only limited staff had the ability to do any sort of transaction, including sell a bottle of water or make change for the washer/dryer. Internet only available in very small section of the bar area, uncomfortable bed (hard), mediocre breakfast buffet, terrible on site washer/driers, don't even bother to use them.

We will not stay here again.

We loved our time here, and still think of it as one of our favourite trips! It was very relaxing, and had a lovely pool and restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful. We look forward to returning.

We stayed for 6 days over the Christmas holiday. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We arrived early and they allowed us to keep our bags behind the counter until our room was available. The resort was quiet and enjoyable. We made use of the gym facilities which were decent. It's a short walk to 4 mile beach. I awoke one morning to see the sun rise and it was beautiful. The pool/restaurant area is a good space and they have a walk up bar in the pool. Staff assisted in booking a tour to Cape Tribulation and Foaming Fury rafting. Our 1 bedroom apartment had everything we needed. We didn't rent a car while staying here. Instead we made use of the two shuttles that run into town on a regular basis. The hotel also has bikes for rent. We went on a few tours and they picked us up from our hotel so it wasn't a problem. We used Exemplar transport for travel to and from the airport. Overall a very relaxing trip.

We had a great time when staying at this resort. We stayed in a 1-bedroom apartment. It had everything you need for a comfortable stay. The king bed was very comfortable. The airconditioner was good. We had dinner at the on-site restaurant one evening. The food was nice and the price was OK. But most of we liked the outdoor lagoon style pool. My husband liked the swim up bar. We totally recommend this resort and Port Douglas itself.

Ramada Port Douglas is a great place to stay. We spent 12 nights here and it is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Resort staff are exceptionally helpful and great at organising tours and events. The Treetops Bar and Grill restaurant which is located beside the pool within the resort serves some fantastic meals with some great specials. The Treetops Spa is another great way to ease away the tension and relax.
Highly recommend this resort.

We stayed for a week in a two bedroomed apartment. I had read on TA that there were no balconies so had requested a ground floor. Unfortunately we ended up with a middle floor overlooking the carpark, very disappointing. It was dark and we needed the lights on even during the day. The apartments have been recently renovated and look very nice when you arrive. However we found the sofa bed very uncomfortable for sitting on in the evenings, there was no real other option except for the hard upright chairs. If there had been 4 of you in there I could imagine you would not be comfortable at all.

It was quite a way into Port Douglas itself. There was a town shuttle but as it would have cost us $18 return for the two of us we used the rental car instead. Parking at the resort was also difficult as there were never enough spaces. The pool area was nice but the water was not heated and I could imagine it would be cool in the winter.

There is plenty to do in the area but we found everything seemed expensive... over $200 each to go on any of the boat trips. The restaurants in Port Douglas also seemed to charge like wounded bulls for food and drinks. I feel sorry for any overseas visitors as they will constantly be paying top dollar for mediocre food.

I would not recommend this resort unless you got a really good deal, I think somewhere walking distance to the town would be much better. To me, one of the best things about having an apartment is that you can enjoy a few drinks on the balcony and relax and enjoy the tropical lifestyle. These apartments had no tropical feel, and could have been anywhere.

Room Tip: I don't really think any of them are good. The ground floors had no privacy. The middle floor had...
