We stumbled on this place mainly on the basis of Tripadvisor, and were not disappointed. Port Douglas had been recommended to us over Cairns, and although it’s a 60 km drive, it’s well worth it. Apart from a short, very tacky strip, the town is beautiful an excellently situated, with a fine marina on one side and the famous Four Mile Beach on the other. The only downside of this is the likelihood of nasty jellyfish, but they have a “stinger net” area where you can stay safe from these. Martinique itself is at the quiet end of the town, but within easy walking distance of all the bars and restaurants, and with even easier access to the beach. The place is a magical cool oasis of calm, with fountains and palm trees and lots of shade. There is a small shady pool which while we were there was always quiet. The apartments are spacious and very tastefully decorated, not serviced every day but clean towels are available when needed. There is a fridge, microwave and double hob, and they provide a “starter pack” of tea, coffee and milk, which is thoughtful. There is WiFi at $10 for the whole duration of your stay, which is reasonable. The hosts, Ted and Antonia, are welcoming, charming and very helpful with unbiased advice about local restaurants, tours and attractions. A lovely place, recommended.

Stayed here for 2 nights in March. Fred and Antonia were away so relief managers were running the apartments which may explain why my experience wasn't quite as great as other reviewers. They were ok but certainly didn't go the extra mile. My stay coincided with a plauge of stink bugs in the area which of course wasn't the fault of the apartments but made for an unpleasant experience especially in the evenings when literally hundreds of black flying beetles were all over the reception area and stairs. The wifi didn't work in my room during my stay which was disappointing. The main positives: swimming pool was very nice, location very good - near 4 mile beach and the road containing many shops and restaurants and lovely apartment with seperate lounge area, bedroom and balcony.

We had an amazing time staying at the Martinique! Exceptionally clean and very comfortable we found the accommodation to be everything we wanted. As with other reviewers, we found the hosts Fred and Antonia to be welcoming and very helpful particularly when booking our trip to the reef. The location of the apartments really is amazing, close to everything but so peaceful - literally steps from the beach. Overall an excellent place to stay in Port Douglas.

My wife and I recently stayed at Martinique and had a very relaxing holiday. The apartments are very nice and the overall feel of the place is peace and quiet.
We particularly liked the pool area which was a little oasis from Macrossan Street.
Antonia and Fred were very helpful and went out of their way to ensure that we had a great holiday.
We have been to Port Douglas many times but this was our first trip to Martinique. We will certainly be back.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the pool is an added bonus.

These apartments are very comfortable. Our bedroom did not have any windows which made it a bit dark but the living area was fairly spacious. Our hosts Antonia and Fred were very friendly and helpful. The apartments are in a great position at the bottom end of Macrossan Street so an easy walk to shops and restaurants and close to 4 Mile Beach. Fred recommended and booked our 2 trips out to the Reef and they were wonderful. There is a small sheltered pool area at the back with a heated pool and lounges. We went with my parents and were given connecting units which worked really well. It was a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed here three nights at the beginning of April and thought it was wonderful. Fred and Antonia are gracious and welcoming hosts, and made us feel at home. The apartments were lovely, large, clean and quiet, with a nice private balcony. As others have said, the location adjacent to the beach and at the end of the main commercial street is perfect. Antonia and Fred were very knowledgeable about local excursions and tours, providing advice and arranging bookings. The excursions were excellent--a diving trip, a sailboat snorkeling trip, and a self-guided driving tour of Daintree (a great recommendation from Fred). Our stay here in Port Douglas was the highlight of our Australian vacation. We are looking forward to a return visit.

We stayed here for 10 days in March. Antonio and Fred were excellent hosts and extremely helpful and knowledgeable and arranged our transfers to and from Cairns Airport. They booked our tours for us and suggested places to go. We went on the Daintree & Cape Tribulation trip, which included Cassowary Falls, the Lady Douglas and the Habitable Reserve in Port Douglas. Fred even gave us a lift to the Reserve in Port Douglas. Our ground floor room was spacious and comfortable, with a patio area with table & chairs and 2 sunbeds. It is very convenient for the beach, main road with shops, restaurants and marina - all within easy walking distance.
