“Beautiful!”
Reviewed 18 November 2012

Loved our stay in this beautiful place! Our apartment was spacious, well-appointed. Fred and Amtonia were welcoming and helpful. The location is perfect - near shops, etc., but quiet. Would love to come back!!

Ideal location, spotlessly clean, delighightful hosts in Fred and Antonia. Nothing was too much trouble. Antonia recommended and booked our Barrier Reef trip, suggested restaurants which were all great. Fred suggested best stops in the Daintree including a fab ice cream stop on the way back!! If you want to get away from the larger hotels, this is the place for you. Location is near perfect and the beach and main shops on Macrossan St are literally on your doorstep. Nice little touches including a water cooler in public area which you are positively encouraged to fill your water bottles from. Also lots of books to choose from and take away if you you haven't finished - you can leave your old ones in exchange! Thank you Fred and Antonia

Another great discovery. A lovely apartment in the best location -- on the main street near some excellent restaurants and a couple of minutes' walk to the beach. The pool is delightful as were our amenities. We had a room on the ground floor with a beautiful terrace. It was so hot when we were there that we did not enjoy our terrace as much as we wanted to because of the high heat and humidity so the air conditioning inside the lovely apartment was welcome. We were glad to be on the ground floor because we noticed that some of rooms on the upper floors which had balconies, did not always have a great view. If you were lucky to face the pool or street or courtyard -- that is fine, but if you face the building next door -- not so great. So I think we had a perfect spot. The decor both on the inside and outside is lovely and there is a beautiful array of flowers and plants. The hosts were friendly and had good suggestions. We have already recommended this place.

Rang early saturday morning to enquire about a one night stay. Fred was happy to have us for one night ( we had decided to stay an extra night in Port Douglas and our accommodation we were at was booked out). Alot of places around town insist on minimum 2 or 3 night stay. We were able to check in early, ie 9.30 in the morning as the room was available, excellent service and friendly hosts. Room was spotless and very comfortable. Location is unbeatable - easy stroll out the door and you are at the beach in less than a minute (perfect for those early morning swims) or to the shops and restaurants. No need for a car here.

We have been to Port a few times over the years and hvae stayed in a few places in the area, For good people and great location Martinique is by far the best. Quite but close to all locations, Love it.

Room Tip: We like the top floor for the breeze and to miss the early reef trippers going out.

The final stage of our Australian Walkabout was a week in Port Douglas. We chose Martinique purely from the good reviews on Tripadvisor and were not disappointed. Fred and Antonia helped us choose our trips and their advice was spot on. Fred suggested Calypso for the reef tour and checked the weather forecast: 'Go on Monday the weather will be just right'. He was correct because the sea was like glass and I didn't feel at all seasick. I snorkelled for the first time in my life! It was like being in a huge aquarium - amazing.

He also suggested Tony's Tours for the Daintree rainforest and again another wonderful day out with just 6 people and a great guide.

The garden, water features and pool are well presented and supply some shade if you want to escape the sun. We would have liked to try the BBQ and sit around the tables but the group on the ground floor apartments did rather monopolise the area each night so we didn't get a look in! Never mind there are so many good places to eat just a few minutes walk down the street.

Wi fi was the best deal we had during our trip $10 and used it all week. I think the big hotels should get their act together and stop charging stupid prices for wi fi.

Fred also told us about the Sunday market held on parkland at the bottom of Macrossan Street. He said 'It's good quality items on sale' and we loved it. Lots of interesting stalls selling food (mmm fruit pooh!) and crafts. We bought all our take home gifts!

If we ever get a chance to return to Port Douglas we would certainly stay here again. Yes there are some very large flashy hotels further out of the centre but I'd much rather stay in this oasis in middle of town. I wish I was there right now :-(
