“Good value and great staff....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 November 2013

This hotel is close to the sea and a ten minute walk to the town so ticks the boxes for location. The rooms are a good size, we had the economy package; no balcony and no kitchen etc. It did for us though so no complaints. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. Sam went out of her way to help us sort out some flight problems; gold star for her! The breakfast was reasonable and fairly standard not the best ever but sets you up for the day sort of thing, it was ok.
There is no bar in the hotel and therefore you have to go out. That may be different in season but we went out of season so you need to go out for everything.

The town of Port Douglas has a sprinkling of bars and pubs and it fancies itself a bit more than it should do. Too many shops selling expensive clothing and same with some of the restaurants. $30 plus for a pizza...more for fish and steaks. The restaurants were good but be ready to pay, the best deal and for me was the Star of Siam, good Thai food and bring your own beer or wine; given that the Italian restaurant wanted $48 for a hose white the BYO deal was a real winner.

Good for trips to rain forest and reef the Mantra Port Sea was ok by us.

Room Tip: Rooms not cleaned in five day stay and towels changed when you take them down to reception.

Dear MONTYAYNE, thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Mantra Portsea. It is great to hear that you found the hotel to be good value and everything you required for a comfortable and enjoyable holiday. Your compliments about the staff and especially Sam are welcomed and appreciated. Port Douglas has an amazing selection of restaurants as you mentioned – many of them offering very high quality food and wine menus. There are a number of cheaper options also in ways of great pubs, Thai, Chinese and boat clubs etc. This gorgeous tourist town caters for all people and budgets. We are glad that you enjoyed your rainforest and reef experiences and found Mantra Portsea to be a great base. We hope to welcome you back in the future.

Kindest Regards

We stayed at the Mantra for two weeks. The resort was great, the room was clean and bright and most importantly, the service from Katya and the team were fantastic. On arrival we were made to feel right at home and Katya checked a few minutes after we had arrived that we were happy with our room. They booked all our excursions and nothing was too much effort.

Room Tip: Our room was on top floor great view over pool.

Just returned from port douglas last night and already looking to go back to the mantra sea port with the family soon. All the staff where exceptionally helpfully especially philipa (pipa) with us deciding to up grade to a balcony room as i didnt really want to sleep that close to my girl friend. And the balcony was perfect to sit out and eat on and enjoy all the bird sounds. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast stated it was a continental but really it was so much more with pancakes, muffins, crumpets, croisonts and more to choose from. The location was perfect with easy walking distance to the warf and shops and beach. And if its to hot, just jump on the shuttle bus for a minimal fee. Would recommend this resort every time. Great job to all the staff for your help and all involved in keeping the pools, BBQ's and grounds so beautiful. definatly will see you all again soon.

Room Tip: The balcony room is spacious and it gives you the the beauty of the tropical sounds and smells

I stayed here with friends for five days. The resort was well appointed, with a gym, beautiful gardens, a small games room, BBQs and several pools - including one huge lagoon-style pool that spanned three different levels (and had a bar). The lagoon pool has heaps of lounges, a waterfall, a small water slide and some shaded areas.

Staff were friendly and knowledgable and my room was spotless.

The guests ranges from couples to families to other groups of friends of varying ages.

The location is great - about a ten minute walk to town (or an $8.00 cab ride if you're not feeling it. If you can drag yourself away from the pool the hotel is about a one minute to the beach.

The pool bar has daily specials and a happy hour, but even their normal prices were surprisingly reasonable.

I'll be back.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my partner during our trip to Port Douglas and we loved it!

We had a pool view studio room which also had a spa in the bathroom. Bedroom and lounge is one room but the bathroom is separate. Mini kitchen is divided by a wall. The room was on ground floor with the patio balcony leading to the start of the lagoon pool. Our front door opened to the gate entrance of the lap pool. The lagoon pool is lovely although is quite shallow. It isn't heated nor is the spa but your in FNQ so it isn't necessary. The resort has two other lap pools which makes up for the lagoon pool and was a bit warmer anyway. Pool bar is expensive but go during happy hour between 3-4pm for $10 cocktails. There is also a vending machine on site as well as drinks machines. Four mile beach is like a 100m walk from the back of the resort with Macrossan Street only a 10-15 min walk. We had a hire car which made getting around for us easier and taking a swim in the stinger nets on four mile beach with a water temp of 27-28 degrees was just perfection. Staff were friendly and happy to assist with any questions we had. Thank you for providing a memorable stay. Can't wait to go back to Port Douglas!!!

Dear MzTeebomb,
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Mantra Portsea. We appreciate you writing such a descriptive review of our rooms and facilities for other travelers. The pools are definitely a stand out feature of our hotel and each one offers its own experience. Lagoon pool is the central hub and hosts the pool bar, 25m lap pool (warmer as it collects lots of sun) and the plunge pool which is more secluded and private. It’s great to see that you were able to enjoy one of our one bedroom studio lagoons for your stay. These rooms are one of our most popular and are perfect for a relaxing tropical holiday! Thank you for your kind words about our staff. We are so glad we were able to provide you with a memorable stay, and look forward to welcoming you back during your next trip to Port Douglas.
Kindest Regards

We stayed here for two nights on our Australia tour.

Reception is a large open space area similar with many tropical resorts I've stayed in. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Apartments are large and well equipped.

My only criticism is the place is a bit of a maze and until you have familiarised yourself with the layout, it's easy to get lost.

The location is a little way out of the centre of town - about a 10 minute walk.

The nearest restaurant is a Chinese about 50 yards across and along the road.

We used Port Douglas as a base to visit the Great Barrier Reef.

Besides access to the reef, Port Douglas and the surrounding area has a great deal to offer. We could have easily stayed longer if our itinerary had allowed it.
