“A Charming Friendly Respite”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

After 2 weeks touring Australia and staying at Hyatts and Four Seasons properties, we arrived at the Peninsula. After a full day of flying from Tasmania, Sheryn (owner) could not have been more welcoming. Our room overlooked the ocean and though not "luxurious" it was delightful; very comfortable, a huge well stocked bathroom with shower, tub plenty of towels, and a small table/chair equipped balcony. In addition to easy beach access there's a very nice small pool to refresh in after a day of snorkeling the reef or visiting the rainforest. There are self-service laundry facilities for guests and that saved us a ton of money compared to the hundreds we spent at the Hyatt. You can walk to town for restaurants. Breakfast was not "gourmet" but it was perfectly fine and re-stocked regularly. We ate one dinner at the restaurant and were very happy to have a good meal without going into town. Had we known the property was as relaxing as it is, we would have booked one or two extra nights for just R&R in Port Douglas. If we ever go back to Port Douglas we will do that!

Room Tip: Try for ocean view and if you're going to do laundry ask for the floor where the self-service ro...

The location is the best thing about this hotel as it across the road from the beach but, so are others so it should think about competition.
We were booked in here by out travel agent but the rooms are of shaped, the kitchenette is really just a kettle and a sink, all the units have seen better days as has the sofa. The tv is in a position that you need to turn the sofa round or get a cricked neck
The bathroom is taken up by a shaped bath which is not a spa bath so why lose all that space on a shaped bath
Towels were thin, they need new ones.
Breakfast was mediocre with weak coffee, stale croissants and buns and the whole area needed freshening up and replenished regularly as you need to keep asking for stuff
The staff are friendly and helpful with the exception of what we think was the owner, a man who became aggressive when we asked for clarification on the bill. There is no need for this at all.
I think they know you are passing through and are unlikely to return so maybe there is no I petus to build a really good reputation

Room Tip: Never saw the fitness centre or spa so last 2 above are incorrect

We stayed in the Penthouse suite and the views were amazing. The restaurant has beautiful food, i even ate seafood which i rarely do! It was wonderful! You unfortunately notice the changeover in chefs. Get to buffet breakfast early and you wont be disappointed at all, come late and you may as well wait until there is a fresh top up. Rooms could be updated at price, but for the location your staying in the end it all balanced out. Need to be a little more organised when it comes to room cleaning. We loved the staff they were great and they helped us enjoy Happy Hour each and every day we were there! Will definitely stay again, loved the no kids part and the location to the main street. Don't need to hire a car at all.

Room Tip: Choose the beachfront rooms for sure!

The best thing about this hotel is its beachfront location just off the main street - and that no children are permitted, so it's pretty quiet. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice but would benefit from an update. The breakfast served daily by the pool is substandard - by 9.00am it's rubbery eggs, cold bacon and mushy hashbrowns - not what you'd expect from a good hotel. At over $400/night, there is much better value in Port Douglas. What you're paying for here is the location and not much else.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view room otherwise you'll look over the pool.

After 2 months travelling around Australia and New Zealand never staying more than 2 nights in one place we arrived at the Peninsula Hotel for a week. What a welcome! Cold drinks, towels and a very informative chat. No problem about providing food although kitchens were closing. The suite was incredible, the view fantastic. Everything had been thought of and provided. The staff were the best part of the hotel. Very friendly and doing their jobs extremely well.
Loved the cocktails and the excellent food in the restaurant.
Great position for 4 mile beach and near the main street.
Small enough to provide a personal service and make the guests feel well looked after. So pleased we chose this hotel to finish our trip.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are special

This hotel is located ideally to look over the beach and also at the end of the Main Street making it very easy to walk everywhere we required. The hotel itself is nice and very clean but nothing too fancy or flash. Josh behind the front desk made our stay more pleasurable with his bubbly nature and helpful tips. He done an excellent job at organising and booking our tour trips and dinner reservations. He brought a smile to our face each time we saw him and seemed to do the same to other guests of the hotel. The hotel restaurant was very good for lunch however for dinner it was a different story, and we couldn't actually finish our entree or main which was very disappointing!

This is our 5th stay at the Peninsula Boutique Hotel, Port Douglas but our 1st cyclone. Sheryn, Phil and the team were so supportive, answering all our questions with patience, experience and knowledge. We felt safe every moment. When it wasn't possible to get out, and the wind was howling and the rain was pelting they provided their usual excellent service and catered for everyone's needs.
Thank you everyone at the Peninsula.
