“Fantastic service, beautiful location, can not wait to go back!”
Reviewed 10 March 2009

We were greeted at the stairs by staff who happily carried our bags into reception. The reception staff were both friendly and helpful, assisting us as well as booking tours etc. The tours that we went on were fabulous and well matched to our age and activity level. The rooms were lovely, nicely decorated and well cooled. Our spa on the verandah was well used and we enjoyed many champagnes there. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during our trip to P Dougie!

From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Whether it was checking in, booking tours and helping out when our air con broke down in our room they went out of their way to make our stay a fantastic one. The rooms were spacious and clean and the spa on the balcony was great. As mentioned the only down side was the air con breaking down but while we were on a tour another room was prepared and had the air con already cooling the room when we returned.

Would have no hesitation in staying there again.

We arrived mid afternoon & with no one about heaved our luggage up the stairs at the front of the hotel to reception. After trouble finding our booking we eventually got our room key & that was it we were all on our own with heavy suitcases to lug up even more flights of tiny stairways. Being given no directions to our room we eventually found it & were relieved to be able to dump our bags. We walked downstairs to the pool to relax however with only a couple of chairs which were taken & a tiny, tiny pool which had kids in it screaming headed back to the room.

Our room was right on the main road on the second floor which meant we couldn't leave the doors open due to so much noise but even if we could all we got was a view of the
ice-creamery...not the best tropical view. The tv was tiny & they only had limited video players for hire at quite a steep price. The bathroom didn't have a door, simply a concertina type plastic thing that didn't even reach far enough to cover the door let alone lock it & with the bedroom right outside it wasn't the best.

So with us locked in our room & hot we put the air conditoning on which worked well but was quite noisy unfortunately. On our way out to town the next day I spoke with reception about getting a late checkout on our last day as we weren't being picked up until late afternoon which we were told wasn't a problem as they had no one else coming in. So we were lying around the morning of our depature & all of a sudden the front door is unlocked & in comes the male cleaner not apologetic or anything just walks in grunts & slams the door. Seconds later we have a call from reception I assumed to apologise but no it's a different lady telling us to get out of the room I was so taken aback I couldn't argue so we got our things & went to reception. After explaining about our late checkout & her checking with the other receptionist that it was correct we got no apology & were told ' oh well'.

Whilst this hotel may have some cheap deals trust me you will prefer to spend a little extra & get a great resort with helpful staff who make you feel welcome & wanted.

  • Liked — Location...right off the main street.
  • Disliked — Quality of furnishing, room size & facilitiesm, tiny pool, staff

The Wentworth Regal Port Douglas has not been Wentworth since November 2007 - We are Regal Port Douglas.

The Regal Port Douglas isn't a chain of Resorts like the Sheraton - unfortunately we do not have porters onsite to carry guests luggage or to greet you at the bottom of our stairs. If a guest is having trouble carrying their luggage up the stairs please come to Reception and asked for help. This certainly will not be a problem.

The Regal Port Douglas does comply with all fire and building regulations and is a 3 storey walk up - no where is it advertised that we have a lift. When booking your accommodation you may request ground floor accommodation if stairs are not an option.

ALL guests are accompanied to their apartments with a full Resort tour. We do not have a 24 hour Reception - hours are on our confirmation letters, websites and if arriving after hours - check in procedures are provided prior to arrival. When checking in the next day at Reception - a full Resort tour will be offered.

Regal Port Douglas does not hire videos or DVD's from Reception. DVD players are provided for your enjoyment in your apartments and DVD hire is only 50 metres away in Macrossan Street.

Thank you for your feedback regarding Housekeeping - steps are in place to ensure no guest at any time will be walked in on by our housekeepers.

Regal Port Douglas has a fantastic location and guests are provided with comment cards for feedback on service, maintenance, value for money, housekeeping - your feedback is vital to our business to provide the best experience we can.

Thank you.

We had a 5 night night stay here in November we were very lucky to get great weather which of course made our stay extra nice.
I found the managers to be very friendly and helpful with information on tours and local places to visit.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment for which was actually a 1 bedroom apartment and a studio apartment that interconnected through a main door. This worked perfectly for us as it felt like we had more room than normal (an we could separate the boys from the girls). We had a room on the top floor overlooking the pool which was awesome. The balcony was huge and we were lucky enough to get a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony. We pretty much spent every night in the jacuzzi.

Now I did get some mixed reviews about this place before I stayed there, some people say its run down but this is def not the case. It is a 4 star and was clean and tidy, The only thing I noticed was there were some missing glasses but other than that everything was working fine.

I highly recommend this property for someone who wants something close to everything, its right on Macrossan Street near by shops and retaurants, a close walk to the beach. It would be good if the place had a lift but when you think about it how many times are you really going to be walking up and down the stairs?

I was disappointed as it was sold to me as
"Wentworth Regal Port Douglas is a boutique style apartment hotel with all the features of self-catering accommodation.... you can be assured of a memorable holiday experience. "

But is was in fact an average beach town holiday apartment that was actually quite dark inside and could have done with a good scrubbing especially the louvre doors. But the spa bath on the (dark) balcony was nice of an evening.

Location was good as it is in the heart of the town and the reception desk staff were nice and booked the shuttle bus back to the airport for us but it was just open office hours as was the internet room, which didn't especially matter but it just seemed a bit odd, mind you if you forgot your key after 6pm you couldn't even access the building at all (not just your own room). So it is in fact just an average holiday apartment and I am not 100% sure why its billed as 'boutique'.

  • Liked — Location - and there was a pool but it the weather was not good enough to need it
  • Disliked — A bit grubby

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and was fantastic.

The hotel has recently changed hands and the new guys had only been there for a week upon our arrival.

The rooms were massive and had a small kitchen area as well as a seperate lounge/bedroom and a massive spa bath to chill out in at the end of the day!

The pool was a welcolme addition after a week in sydney without one, especially when we had 32c+ days!

Another nice touch is the free BBQ at that side of the pool, we nipped to the supermarket and had a nice BBQ one evening, the manager even came out to see if we needed anything.

The staff were really friendly and offered advice on places to go.

If I had one complaint it would be that there is no maid service during your stay (unless you pay extra). so if you need anything you have to go ask for it and have to empty the bin and take the rubbish to the carpark under the hotel.

If you're going to the beach, watch out for the stingers!!

We were recently transferred to the Wentworth Regal with our two children after being bumped out of the apartment we had booked elsewhere. The manager was very welcoming and gave us a generous sized one bedroom apartment and adjoining studio apartment, both with their own huge deck overlooking the swimming pool. Our deck had a jacuzzi and big dining table.

The one bedroom apartment had a king sized bed, a kitchen/living area inside, plus a sink, fridge and barbecue on the deck. We also had a washing machine and dryer which was really useful. The kids room had a generous sized bathroom with a spa bath, plus its own kitchen area on the deck.

The pool area was very nice, although the pool wouldn't suit if you were planning to swim lengths. Our kids loved it and we spent a lot of time relaxing on the sun loungers!!

The location is excellent if you want to be central and walk everywhere, as it is at the end of the main shopping street. The staff were really helpful with suggesting things to do and booking our tours for us.

Although we thought the decor was a bit tired, we were very comfortable and impressed with the amount of space we had, particularly outside.
