We stayed in a 2 bedroom bottom floor beachfront apartment for 8 days in June. The rooms were spacious and our apartment had a lovely covered patio and private lawn in front of it (room 8). The kitchen was well stocked with cutlery, plates, pots, pans etc and had washing detergent. I had read the trip advisor reviews so knew to bring beach towels. As we stayed 8 days, the room was serviced once during our stay (after 4 days). The location is fantastic, the staff were pleasant and helpful. It was great having a warm pool and a cold pool and we used the tennis court frequently. The only negative thing I can think of is that my husband found the bed soft. We would recommend this and would stay there again.

Room Tip: We had room 8 - ground floor beachfront 2 bdr apartment. It was very private as it was at the end of...

Someone at Mandalay changed our 1015am transfer to 915am. And we were NEVER notified. We just happened to learn about the change at 9:05 AM. It was a mad and frustrating dash to finish packing and hurry to the transfer. We made it but it was a harried way to end and otherwise enjoyable stay.

We sincerely apologise for the confusion regarding the transfer time on the day of your departure.
Unfortunately our cross checking system failed on this occasion, no excuse, it should not have happened. We enjoyed having you stay at Mandalay and would lovewto welcome you again another time.

Had a great time at Mandalay - rooms where spacious & clean. Quiet location with no traffic and right next to the beach.

Pool was a hit with the kids as too was the tennis court.

Had a little trouble with the dishwasher, but they had a guy come out a few hours later to work out the problem.

Will definitely be coming back.

Room Tip: Doesn't matter which room you stay in - as there is no view of the beach, or busy road noise to...

We stayed for 7 nights in June 2014 in 2 br beach-front apartment. Apartment is quite large and clean, and perfectly suitable for our family. Kitchen/Dining/Living room are spacious (open plan) and heaps of well-looked after cutlery, glasses and cook-ware - all in immaculate condition. Large covered outdoor area with dining and lounge area was excellent, plus large garden area.
Location is pretty good - just across the road from the beach (you can't see the beach as you are behind the dune and tree-line, but only a short (2 min) walk and you're on amazing 4 mile beach. Pretty easy walk into town ~3 largish blocks, but this was problematic for little legs, and suggest you borrow a pram from the reception. We didn't know they existed until the last day, but def. would have borrowed one if we had known.
A few small gripes:
- No washing powder in laundry, and when I went to reception, was told you have to buy some in town - Only available in the standard 2 kg. box in town and this was pretty wasteful for a couple of washes. Similarly, there is no (even small/sample sized) oil, salt/pepper, butter on arrival, and so if you're planning to cook, be prepared to buy everything, for a 7 day stay, it is sometimes wasteful and it would be good if the Mandalay could provide these (even a $5 'basics pack' which would get most guests through a standard week long stay).
- Bikes were available for hire but was pretty expensive - $12 for 1/2 day. I didn't see anyone take any out the whole time. For the price of the apartments, you think they could chuck these in or just make a nominal price
- Every afternoon around 1 - 2 pm, there seemed to be maintenance: leaf blowing twice, angle grinding once, and lawn mowing twice. As a holiday place, we expected to have our afternoon naps uninterrupted, and it would be better if they were scheduled for the morning!
- Reception was often seemed attended and ladies often on the phone, and we often felt like we were interrupting to ask a question.
Our first time in Port Douglas and Mandalay was certainly a nice place to stay. Pool is heated (not to Melbourne's temp)! but OK for a dip and rooms are very well kept.
Make sure you eat at the surf club (5 min walk via beach or road) and Habitat Centre.

Room Tip: Ground floor in front of the pool could be noisy in busy months (your patio is practically the pool...

We stayed on the main level, overlooking the pool with the great outdoor space. We had 3 adults and 2 children (4 and 1). Unit was perfect, very large and spacious, loaded with excellent furnishings. It was a bit of a walk from downtown, but none the less even with the kids we still left the car parked for 3 days straight. Walked to get dinner and breakfast each day and even walked to the wharf for our Reef trip.

Would stay there again in a heartbeat, and my wife is VERY picky about accomodations.

Ladies running the front desk were all extremely helpful with booking side trips as well as giving recommendations.

This place is amazing. The staff are great. They helped out with everything they could and more. We stayed in a beachfront apartment with friends and it was great. Bedrooms down either end of the place so we didn't get in each other's face. The facilities are great. I would highly recommend this place and we are definitely coming back.

We ended our first ever tour of Australia by staying at the Mandalay for 5 nights in April/May. What an excellent choice. We arrived at 2am after a late flight into Cairns and were slightly concerned after finding out that there would be no one to meet us. We should not have worried at all. There was an envelope with a welcome letter and apartment key waiting on the desk. When we got to the apartment we were surprised and delighted with the layout, cleanliness and general luxury of the place. We spent a very happy few days enjoying the amenities of the Mandalay and of being in beautiful Port Douglas.

Our thanks go to Pauline especially. She always had time to explain the local area to us and it was so good to speak to someone with such a great knowledge of that part of the world.

Thanks to all concerned at the Mandalay for making our final stay in Australia so memorable. We hope to return someday.
