Owner description: The Bally Hooley is an operational steam train in Port Douglas, Queensland. The trains are hauled by our three coal-fired steam locomotives Bundy, Speedy and the new all-star Nelson, built in the early 1950s for the local Sugar Mills. Check out our fabulous new 3-in-1 tour package including a river cruise on Choo Choo Explorer, a trip on the Bally Hooley , as well as lunch at the delightful Choo Choos Cafe at St Crispins Station-fun for the whole family! #ballyhooley

We couldn't resist the chance to catch the Bally Hooley for a return trip. The kids loved it and like all men, my husband loved it too! Not sure what the attraction is with men and steam trains. Special shout out to a young man named Joe who was extremely friendly and helpful. Not so positive about the cranky older lady who worked from the Marina, maybe we got her on a bad day.

Look this is a bit of fun, takes about an hour for the return trip, volunteers do all the work and the slow pace of the steam train is enjoyable. Worth the time and the low cost to see parts of Port Douglas.

A great slow ride to nowhere...An old steam train ride in the middle of modern tourist Mecca. A must do .... Only works on Sundays

We loved this little train ride. If you have a car, I recommend catching it into town from the little station which is lovely, and fun to watch the train arriving and turing in what is farily quiet countryside.
Very reasonable price and lots of fun - our 2-year old thought it was great too! Just don't sit at the front of the train - we did on the way back and had watering eyes from the smoke for quite a few hours!!
