We chose to spend our honeymoon at the Meridian mainly after looking at online reviews here and elsewhere, and it totally lived up to expectations. Most of what I have to say will be repeating what others have mentioned below!

We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite Deluxe, which I think is probably one of their nicer suites, and found it fantastic - can't compare it to other rooms, but it was spacious and very well laid out. A single bedroom, decent sized bathroom, roomy lounge with a small but nicely set up kitchen, and sliding door which open on one side to a large private courtyard with jacuzzi and some tropical garden (and a path leading to another sliding door in the bedroom). On the end of the lounge is another sliding door leading to an undercover little courtyard with a table for pleasant outdoor meals (still private), and this leads onto the deck which is situated right at the end of the pool, which is around the corner, meaning this gives you more privacy than most of the rooms which open directly onto it. Decor was simple and pleasant, with a suitable sort of tropical feel - tiled floors, cane furniture etc., with a big new TV. All was spotlessly clean and not at all worn looking as some places can be. Air con and fans were definitely appreciated at this time of year!

The vibe of the place (especially as we were there in the offseason, I guess) is very relaxed and quiet (no kids), which was perfect for the sort of getaway we were after. The lagoon-style pool, which we spent a lot of time in, is in the middle of the complex, with a public outdoor area beside it; one night we made use of the enormous barbecue to do some tasty steaks. The location, as others have mentioned, is also pretty much perfect; just off the main drag, walking distance to everything you need - we didn't even hire a car.

The managers, John and Sue, were great - very friendly, informative and clearly committed to running the place well (when John showed us to our room, his perfectionistic streak showed as he jumped to perfectly centre the TV). They quickly took care of a few requests like a lightbulb that went out, and were very patient in contacting our reef trip service daily to rebook as the weather was bad, and sorting our airport transfers.

Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the place.

This place is amazing. We stayed here for 5 nights in February and were knocked over by the place as soon as we walked in. The owners are really friendly and provide a really personal stay. The whole place is spotless and the decor is beautiful and modern. The rooms are so beautifully decorated with slatted blinds and an enormous flatscreen tv! The hotel is right in the middle of Port Douglas so its only a few steps to the high street, the beach and the marina. And to make everything perfect its completely child free so perfectly peaceful. This hotel is fantastic value for money and we were sorry to leave.

The Meridian is a superb base for a holiday in Port Douglas. The location is just about unbeatable, and we hardly used our rental car, being within walking distance of the beach and most of the restaurants.

The rooms are well appointed. They are not huge, but they have just about everything that you need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is slightly limited, with only a toaster and a microwave to cook food, but there are so many good restautants in PD that this didn't make a huge difference.

The pool is large, and the "no children" policy makes for a very quiet and relaxing hotel.

The concierge was very helpful, and they havea wealth of literature and ideas to help you make the most out of your trip to PD.

Only other comment was that the wireless internet is slightly flaky, and that we had to sit on the balcony to access it, so this might be a consideration if you will be doing a lot of work whilst there, but all in all, it was a super place and met all of our needs, for a very reasonable price.

The Meridian at Port Douglas is a wonderful place to stay. We were there for 4 days and it rained 3 of those days, but we still enjoyed our stay immensely. They could not do enough for us and I would highly recommend this place to anyone planning to stay in Port Douglas. Just round the corner from the main street where all the bars and restaurants are and only 3-5 minute walk to 4 mile beach. Rooms were of an extremely high standard and it was great value for money. Now back in freezing cold Scotland, but would much rather prefer to be back in the rain in Port Douglas. Thanks Meridian for looking after us and hopefully we will be back again soon. We stayed here for three nights in January. It was indeed lovely and convenient, although not really amazing. We choose a studio room with a swim-up deck which was fantastic and well worth the extra $30. We were constantly hopping in and out all day and into the night and really enjoyed the whole of the pool area. The deck was smallish and had one sun lounger on it, but there was also a private balcony area with table and chairs.

The only thing i would say was that it was quite a big step from the pool onto the deck. It's very doable but not in an elegant way. I'm not sure someone a bit older would enjoy trying to heave themselves out of the pool up onto this deck. I did see another woman getting a hand from her partner to get out of the pool and onto her deck.

My other issue is a tiny one, but the shower head was fixed to the wall below the top of my head so i had to bend backwards to wash my hair properly. This wouldn't put me off this property but i did wonder why the designer though that no one taller than 170cm would want to wash their hair?

I thought this place was great but i might think about looking for somewhere else next time just to try something different. It is in a really good spot though.

I would have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending the Meridian apartments to any travellers with a party over the age of 16 (the property age limit). The property is spotless, with spacious, well equipped and well maintained equipment in the apartments. We found the rates extremely competitive good value and the owner/managers were very helpful indeed both during the booking process by email (I had many questions) and during our stay.
I am particularly reviewing the property from the perspective of a disabled wheel chair user. The Meridian apartments have served us very well as a party of 4, with myself as the wheelchair user. The complex has a lift which is just large enough for all 4 of us to fit in with the wheelchair or, alternatively, with the small mobility scooter that I hired to use here. There is level access from the front of the building, plus access to the lift from the garage at the rear of the property.
We hired a 1-bedroom apartment with a Jacuzzi on the balcony, plus an adjoining studio room. This was plenty large enough for 2 couples. Between the apartments is an entrance hallway with washer and drier, and there is sufficient room for the scooter to be parked there out of the way, overnight, whilst using the washing machine plug socket for battery charging.
My wheelchair was used around the 1 bedroom apartment and the space was adequate for this. But we were warned by the owners before booking, that only this apartment type would have sufficient room for using a wheelchair in the bathroom. (this is a 1-bedroom superior apartment, and the type booked for this extra space needs to be that with the Jacuzzi rather than a ground floor swim-up apartment). The one tight area we found was getting around the bed into the bathroom, so we just slid the bed along a bit. The owners had already, helpfully, moved a set of drawers out of the bedroom into the living room.
The walk-in shower in the bathroom was perfectly suitable for me, with just a small step, of around 10cm to step over. The owners were able to provide a pretty solid plastic shower chair for me to use. The shower head pulls forward to adjust the height and can be reached from the chair. As this is not an adapted ‘disabled’ accommodation, the toilet has no space at either side for wheelchair transfer. For me this was not necessary. The adjacent sink work top is useful as an aid for standing. I found that the sink work top, which protruded a few centimetres from the cupboards underneath gave just about enough knee room for use from my own wheelchair, however it is not possible to use the mirror from this position.
The balcony is accessed with a small ridge of around 2cm. I did not need to use the wheelchair myself to get over this.
The pool at the property is not designed for wheelchair use. There are 2 steps down from reception where loungers are in the sun, then a bridge with 3 steps each side to reach the shadier sitting area. It is only from that area that there is a ladder into the pool. So I personally didn’t bother. Others in our party enjoyed swimming here. It is often empty and peaceful.
One of our reasons for staying here was the fact that the Meridian is so close to the main restaurant area on Macrossan Street. Even in the sun, it is easy to get there on the scooter, or walking for the others. And it is close to the beach. Broadband access is not advertised, but wifi is in fact available at a charge, though not a very strong signal beyond Reception apparently. Probably, the charge for broadband is the only downside of this property – and I would say the same about all properties that make such a charge.
Thank you, John, Sue and Pauline for helping to make our stay in Port Douglas so enjoyable. We would love to return.

My husband and I always dreamt about touring Australia since we met 10 years ago. Finally the time came and we decided to do it. One of the must-do things in our list was the Great Barrier Reef. After a long search on the internet and talking to a lot of my friends and work colegues that have been to Ozz we decided to stay in Port Douglas. Then, we had to choose a place to stay. Using trip adivisor and other websites we decided to book the Meridian 1 bedroom apartment. Well, we couldnt have been happier!! The location is superb: very close to the main street (with shops, bars and restaurants) and the beach, but it is far away of the noise.

Even though when we got off the airport mini-bus we werent impressed (it doesnt have the grandious entrance that other hotels have) we were highly impressed with the apartment. It was really big and there was everything you might need in it!! (Also very clean)

John and Sue are great hosts to a very well airconditioned resort.

There is also a washing machine and a dryer free of use to share every 2 apartments. They charge 2 dolars for detergent, but you are better off to buy a small packet in the local shops.

There are teas and coffees in the room, keatle, toaster, iron, bottle opener, pots and pans, cutlery, bath towels (you can rent towels for the pool for 3 dolars), toilet roll, soaps... you name it, it is there. They also provide with electrical adaptors.

The only down thing was that the internet signal is not strong enough even in reception... so forget the internet and enjoy paradise!!

If you go to Port Douglas, you MUST go to the Raintree Forest with Tony's tropical tours. It doesnt get any better than this!!

In these recesion times, value for money is more important than ever. We are hard to please, and this was (surprisingly, we didnt expect it) the best part of our 3 week holiday.
