“Wonderful gay-only beach location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2014

Great staff, comfortable accommodations, excellent food, and wonderful clothing-optional beach. International and local guests always interesting - the communal "Turtle table" for dinner is a must for anyone new to Turtle Cove - a good way to meet the guests. Be aware of box-jellyfish restrictions which make ocean swimming potentially hazardous in Queensland during the summer season. The pool and hot tub (spa) are great! We didn't use room service or the massage services.
The surrounding area has access to the Barrier Reef in Port Douglas and Cairns, Daintree Rain forest and Mossman gorge, as well as the sky-rail cable way just outside Cairns, as well as numerous crocodile farms and outdoor activities.
Our most recent visit was the fourth time, and it won't be the last!

Room Tip: Ocean-side suites are wonderful, with small deck, with loungers and chairs to sit and enjoy the sunr...

A sexy, intimate resort in an absolutely oustanding setting on a huge private beach. Nice large hot tub and swimming pool. However, do not expect to go swimming in the Coral Sea due to box jellyfish stings at certain times of the year, like March. Relaxed atmosphere and good food--especially lunch and dinner. Having your own car is recommended to get easily to area activities, although most tour groups will shuttle you to Cairns for an added fee. Make sure you request bug spray, as the mosquito bites last for many days, and there is a concern, although extremely unlikely, about Dengue fever. Several complimentary cold breakfast items, no meats. Port Douglas is the closest town, a 15 minute drive if a hot breakfast is desired. No wifi from rooms and very limited wifi internet in common area, so have your own downloaded music playlists ready to go. Spotify and Pandora are unrealistic options. Leave your laptop at home as the resort provides one for guest use. Beachfront rooms are worth the extra rate.

If you go alone, be outgoing and prepare to be talkative. Guests are generally friendly, especially around the large dinner table.

Room Tip: oceanfront is totally worth it.

This inn is in an amazing location, stunning really. The clothing option pool and beach are fantastic and international set of guests are fun to talk to . The staff is lovely and they work hard to make it a pleasant stay, they always go the extra mile to help the guests. We had great massages in the spa and the front desk was always helpful in booking excursions and giving advice.

The rooms are plain but clean and the bathroom utilitarian, with a decent shower. The rooms on the ocean front have decks that spill onto a lawn that leads to the beach, the sea at your doorstep. The problems with the rooms are: the bed( really hard and lumpy with a crease running down the middle where the twin mattresses are butted together with a filler strip--- I would rate the mattress unacceptable in a hotel), the lack of windows( has a front patio slider which is great plus a small window in the bath) but otherwise the rooms seem a bit dark given the brilliant location, and finally the room deco could be furnished with a little more luxury. This is a gay hotel-- where is the style?

The kitchen and bar do a good job with lunch and dinner, serving good, well prepared comfort food. The menu changes to give guests variety and the service is always excellent. There could be a lilt more attention paid to the farm to table movement with local produce used for more vegetable and salad options, skipping the iceberg lettuce. The breakfast is really the only weak part of the dining experience with boxes of cold cereal, containers of sugary yogurt, cellophane wrapped Sara Lee muffins, and cheap sandwich bread for toasting as the main options. We may 'too foodie' but the breakfast could really be improved.

The grounds are well landscaped though not much garden maintenance seems to be done currently. But given the beauty of Turtle Bay- water, sand, and beach not much embellishing is really needed for this amazing location.

Lastly, we just missed the hatching of the sea turtles but some other guests will be very lucky to see this wonderful occurrence. While we visited we did not swim as it was jellyfish stinger season, which plagues this whole part of Australia.

While it seemed we had a fair number of complaints, they are really more suggestions as we would definitely come back and stay at this fantastic gay resort.

Room Tip: Ocean front are 40 feet from beach and you hear the crashing waves constantly. Amazing really.

My partner and I had our second trip to TC recently - Friday through Monday. Despite threats of a cyclone, we managed to lie in the sun and go in the pool every day. We had a really relaxing time walking on the beach after breakfast and before dinner. We also made some great new friends and had lots of great conversation around the Turtle Table.
My only disappointment was we didn't pre-book a massage, so there was no appointments left while we were there. So if you want a massage, make sure you book in advance!
Thanks Queen B and the team, we'll be back :) xx

stayed one night at T Cove in Feb - the resort is beautifully located with great views and extraordinary privacy. had a beachfront room with great views. reception very friendly and welcoming. room very tired, looks like nothing much had changed in the 10 years since my last stay. bathroom especially needs a total upgrade, and not quite as clean as it could have been. you need car if staying here, as its wonderful isolation means few transport options.

Room Tip: go the beachfront - lovely to sleep with the sound of the waves

Had a great time visiting, will be back again for sure.
Pleasantly surprised with great food and excellent service.
Property is a solid 4-star , nothing too fancy , but lots of fun , a gorgeous bit of scenery , and an easy 15 min drive to Port Douglas.

We are a gay male couple and we stayed for two nights at Turtle Cove in March 2014. From being picked up at the airport, to the friendly and accommodating staff to the beautiful meals and the amazing beach and sociable guests, we felt our stay was worth it. We would highly recommend the beachfront villas for the comfort and view. Great for singles and couples.
