We recently rented a house at the southern end of Port Douglas and several times walked the length of 4 mile beach to town. Lovely walk, took about 45 minutes, Frustrating that the stingers stopped you swimming - weird concept for Kiwis! Water was completely deserted.Apparently from about mid May they go away and you can swim, so maybe thats the time to visit! We did swim in the nets but make sure you don't go at low tide - deepest bit comes up to your knees!

One of the best beaches I have come across in Australia. The four miles of nice sand and blue waters appear to stretch on forever. We would often come down from the main street with a picnic lunch and relax on the beach.

Kitesurfing is available along the beach for the more adventurous. There were no stalls to buy refreshments on the beach however there are cafes and resorts, nestled just behind the sand.

Keep in mind that swimming is restricted at certain times of the year due to the jellyfish.

A good photographic view of the entire beach can be found by turning left at the end of Macrossan st at the beach and climbing some stairs.

We highly recommend the sunset cruise by Aquarius. ( http://www.portdouglascruises.com/port-douglas-sunset-sailing.html ) We left the harbour and travelled around the tip of Port Douglas in a clockwise fashion. We watched the sun setting over the Daintree forest range, which is the backdrop to the four mile beach. Little birds were flying around the sails and we spotted dolphins swimming next to the yacht. Extremely romantic. Best to bring your preferred drink and snacks as the canapés are limited.

We walked to Four Mile Beach from our hotel along the road and accessed at the far end by the car park. The beach is stunning - as beautiful as I've seen in the Caribbean - and it's lovely to walk along on a quiet morning. If you're able to do the quite steep walk up to the road or view point, it's well worth doing as the views are far reaching and make you think you're in a little bit of paradise

Why travel the world to Hawaii or Fiji when we have the Four Mile Beach right here in Australia?! I have been to Fiji and this beach right here in Australia is one of the most beautiful scenic beaches I have ever experienced. Note stinger season at certain times of the year means you can't swim in the water though, apart from life guarded sections. Bring your camera!
