At the Mango Tree Holiday Apartments

Although an older, smaller property, The Mango Tree was very clean, well cared for. The kitchen had adequate cutlery/dinnerware/utensils and in general had everything we needed. Loved the location, just a short walk across the road and then on a safe path down to the beach. Had the bonus of a sand play equipment and balls for the kids to borrow and take with them. Fun had by all.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's truly a great pleasure to read that you consider the place well cared for.
We live on site and the Mango Tree is our home so it is very satisfying to see our efforts in caring for the property rewarded by your review.
It would be our pleasure to welcome you back to The Mango Tree one day if you choose to visit Port Douglas again.

I spent 4 nights at The Mango Tree and couldn't be happier with the room, service, location and price. I was travelling alone and the studio room was perfect for me. I would highly recommend this to anyone travelling alone and not wanting to stay in a hostel. Microwave, kettle, toaster provided. It would also be perfect for couples on a budget.

Located just 15 minutes walk from the town centre, and 5 minutes walk to 4 Mile Beach it is very nice and quiet and you don't get the noise that those would staying closer to town.

Discounted tours available for those staying. Friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended.

My wife and I just had the pleasure of a couple of nights away in Port Douglas for a long weekend break. Our stay at Mango Tree resort in a 2-bedroom air-conditioned self-catering apartment was everything we expected. This is a well-run resort of 20 apartments and townhouses just 1.5km from the centre of Port Douglas and 400m to Four Mile Beach.

Whilst not being 5 star it well meets the 3.5 star standard it purports to be with the managers being proactive in ensuring smooth running, clean facilities, and a quiet relaxed atmosphere.

The apartment was clean, well equipped, and had a usable kitchen for meals if you don’t want to eat out. If you do want to eat out there is a Chinese Restaurant two doors away and a liquor store 100m away.

The managers were very helpful and can arrange almost any trip or tour you need. There is also a pool, barbecue, and tennis court on-site for free use as well as bicycles.

Despite having been to Port Douglas many times this is the first time we have stayed at Mango Tree Resort and we regarded it as good value.

Room Tip: All rooms are two-bedroom so even if you book one-bedroom you will get a two-bedroom.

On my recent trip to Australia, my sister and I took our eldest sister to Port Douglas for a 4 night stayat the Mango for her 50th Wedding Anniversary . We found the apartment clean and well maintained with everything you need in the apartment. Although the Cooker was a bit ancient! The location to the main street and harbour are excellent.
Would recommend you visit the Great Barrier & the Daintree and food wise - you have to have a Pukka Pie from the local bakery - fantastic!

Stayed for two nights in a standard room. We were worried when we saw how cheap it was but we shouldnt have been. Its not modern but if you want to stay at a great quiet little place on a budget, its perfect. The staff were very welcomimg and helpful. Absolutely recommended!

We stayed at The Mango Tree for 8 nights - what a fantastic stay we had!

The Mango Tree was the perfect location for us, just far enough from town to allow a beautiful walk each day, just close enough for the walk to be enjoyable.

The setting is one of natural tropics. With the beautiful music played by Mother Nature, birds, frogs, geckos - exactly why we went to Port Douglas, to enjoy the tropics.

The rooms were spacious, clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and more! They were very clean and maintained.

Michael was very welcoming when we arrived and always friendly when ever we bumped into him or needed anything.

The value for money is OUTSTANDING, the old saying 'you get what you pay for' does not apply here - I felt we got so much more!

The pool, set in tropical surrounds was refreshing and inviting. The beach is just across the road and there is also a bus stop right outside the entrance of The Mango Tree.

If you are looking for what Port Douglas is known for; natural, Tropical, friendly with a nice blend of Mother Nature do stay at the Mango Tree.

Several reviews on this site do The Mango Tree a disservice! We loved our stay and would be back again!

Thanks for your hospitality Michael, we look forward to our return visit to The Mango Tree.

On arrival we were greeted by a bitter man who didn't introduce himself. Once we entered our room we had to remove previous patrons rubbish. The shower area could have been cleaner along with the pool, which had a thick oil slick and small pieces of rubbish. The rooms themselves weren't too bad. But the experience could have been much better with a small amount of effort from staff. We are a young crew and don't expect amazing standards however cleanliness and politeness should be a given. The letter at the door the morning we left stating that we must clean the kitchen and outdoor area gave a final bad impression, given that it was untidy to begin with. Oh and bring your own toilet paper because we were supplied with the one in the bathroom and told to purchase more ourselves.

We apologise to these guests for it would seem that one in their group became a little unhappy after their arrival.
We suspect this to be because the guest did not realise they had not paid for their accommodation at the time of booking.

During a lengthy conversation at check in where the guest repeatedly insisted that they had paid in full we managed to explain the process of their booking. After several checks of online bank statements it was eventually agreed that the accommodation had not been paid.

This then led to the complaint that having to pay for the accommodation would impact on what funds they had available during their stay. We can only assume this led to the unhappiness and subsequent review from this guest. Unfortunately there was nothing we could do to alter the situation.
Fortunately however three of the four guests did seem to be happy and enjoy their stay.

As for the criticisms arising in the review, there's little we can learn from this as nothing was mentioned about any of these matters during their stay. There's little point in disputing the claims as nothing can be verified.

It's just such a shame and also very hard for us to deal with that something brought on by the guest themselves can be allowed to leave such a harsh and lasting blemish on our reputation.

In the meantime we can only hope that we soon get some kinder, more truthful and helpful reviews from some of our many satisfied guests.

Although the reviewer claims they probably wouldn't stay again we would be delighted to have them return because we believe the property is good value and is a great place to stay for everyone.
