“Family trip to Port Douglas”
Reviewed 10 May 2013

We traveled to Port Douglas with our family of 6 - 2 adults, 4 children in December 2012. We chose the Saltwater Luxury Apartments because we could all be comfortably accommodated in the same dwelling, unlike many hotels which require us to have at least two rooms. We stayed in the three bedroom apartment which perfectly accommodated our family and included 2 1/2 baths which was a big blessing at bath time.

The kitchen was completely outfitted with everything that we could possibly need and the grocery store was literally across the street. John and Carolyne were very helpful in arranging for a fabulous Rainforest tour with Daintree and recommending restaurants and a place where we could rent fishing equipment. We ventured out to the Great Barrier Reef while we there too. We had already booked a charter with Wavelength, but John and Carolyne also said that Calypso would be excellent for children.

All of our transfers to/from the airport, etc. were arranged by John and Carolyne as well. Service was prompt and courteous.

The location on Macrossan Street was fabulous - literally smack in the middle of all of the action. You walked one direction to the beach or the other direction to the Marina and you were surrounded by a multitude of dining options and shops. New Year's Eve fireworks were just a short 5 minute walk to the Marina.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Saltwater and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. If ever in Port Douglas again, it will be where we choose to "hang our hats."

Saltwater is a fantastic place for a family holiday. The apartment was great quality with plenty of room and everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The pool was great for the kids and the location right on Macrossan St was close to all amenities but still set back from the street far enough to keep the noise down. Highly recommended and I would stay here again

We stayed in these apartments for three days in March and would recommend them to anyone who wants a well furnished apartment in a central location in Port Douglas. We had a two bedroomed apartment with a wrap around balcony. It was a large apartment and more than sufficient for us with excellent facilities including a nice swimming pool.

The only very small gripe was that the air conditioning for the Italian restaurant downstairs vibrated slightly in the apartment (5) but was always off by the time went to bed. It would not stop us staying in the apartments again

John & Carolyne were very helpful from start to finish including arranging trips to the rainforest and the reef (which are also thoroughly recommended).

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the restaurant

Port Douglas is SO gorgeous. Initially we were going to all book into a resort hotel but instead chose this great apartment hotel for a group of friends to stay in. We had the enormous three bedroom penthouse, with a huge balcony. The owners are lovely, it's location is beyond perfect and the shops, restaurants and supermarket are literally across the road. You don't really need to hire a car if you have transfers to Port Douglas as you will get picked up outside the hotel by any tour operaters you book ..... but there is plenty of off street parking if you do hire a car. It's certainly not a 5 star hotel holiday so don't expect room service, but for the amazing price the apartment is perfect.

The rooms are clean and the kitchen well fitted out, air-con, just everything you could want. The main bedroom has bathroom built as part of the bedroom, so no doors to seperate the bed from the bath or toilet, kind of funny, and it has an enormous spa bath - but it has wooden shutters which open out to the living room so not a place to go with new friends... Would certainly stay here again and definitely request the 3 bedroom apartments as they are double the size of the two bedroom apartments.

We stayed here last year and have booked again for this year. We had a 2 bedroom apartment with a wrap around balcony. The rooms are spacious and very clean, up -to -date modern decor, lovely kitchen, and all the facilities needed for a week's holiday. Coles is across the road for groceries, wharf and Courthouse Hotel to the left, a short stroll for sunset drinks and watching the boats return from the Reef, and the ocean and beach at the eastern end of the street. John and Carolyne have been a delight to deal with and will book your fishing and snorkelling trips at no extra charge, and have years of experience to recommend the best operators in Port. This will be our 4th trip to Port and now we have discovered Saltwater, we won't be staying anywhere else!

Room Tip: Corner apartments with a wrap around balcony are more spacious and have a door to access balcony fro...

An absolutely lovely place to stay. We stayed here for four nights with friends in a two-bedroomed apartment (actually they gave us a three bedroomed one- bonus!) and it was wonderful. We had a dishwasher, washer/dryer, secure gated parking, fans and air con, an amazing master bedroom with spa bath, large living area, it all felt really new, clean and secure and everything worked perfectly. Would definitely stay there again. Oh, and there's a small pool with a communal barbecue too. Brilliant.

Just come back today after spending 8 nights at Saltwater in a 2 bedroom apartment and I could not fault the place

The apartment was extremely clean and one of the cleanest I've stayed in. It had all the amenities we needed so we could stay in when our toddler was not up to dining out. It is also located in the main street of Port Douglas so shops and restaurants are easily accessible.

The gentleman who was at reception was fantastic and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. (I feel terrible as I didn't get his name!) I inquired with him about doing a boat trip to the Low Isles but he actually recommended a boat trip to Agincourt Reef instead as it was more suitable with a toddler this time of year as it's stinger season and they like to hang around the shallow water at the Low Isles. He booked and organized the whole trip and all we had to do was show up. We had a great time.

Because we stayed for more than 7 nights we had our apartment serviced halfway through our stay. They cleaner did a thorough job unlike some other places we have stayed at.

Yes, there are a few stairs to climb at Saltwater to get to your apartment but it is clearly sated on their website and I was informed also by Carolyne when I spoke to her over the phone before I arrived. I could also leave my pram in the undercover carpark behind a locked garage door so I didn't have to constantly lug it up the stairs which was great.

I would definitely recommend Saltwater Apartments to anyone who wants a hassle free holiday and wants to be close to all that Port Douglas has to offer.
