My wife & I stayed at the Sea Temple with a couple of our friends recently and shared a 2 bedroom apartment on the upper level.

Our first impressions of the resort/hotel were very good. The entrance is opulent and has lovely views down the large pool. The general mood was chilled & relaxed, with a touch of class about it that we had anticipated. We were excited to have arrived!

The 2 bedroom apartment was very well presented and a great size. Kitchen had everything you needed and the balcony was nicely shaded with more views over the pool. The roof terrace however, was looking a little on the tired side. The teak sun loungers could do with a refresh oil, the tiled floor needed a good scrub and the Jacuzzi wasn't that inviting. All I can say is it needed some TLC...

The next thing that struck me was the lack of sun loungers around the pool. We were told the place was around 50% capacity, but still we struggled to get 4 together at any time of the day. Apart from that, all was good. The pool side service was efficient and the staff were always friendly. Swimming around the vast pool was totally relaxing as well!

I think the location is really worth mentioning here and I can offer some tips… Sea Temple is way out of town, with a fairly regular small (but slow) bus service running between resorts & Macrossan Street. Now, we bought a 3 day pass thinking we’d save some cash over the pay-as-you-go option. Mistake! There are 2 separate bus companies running and if you buy the pass for one, you can only use that one!!! And as is always the case, when you’re waiting for a bus the wrong one turns up! It was annoying to say the least!!! I think the Sea Temple should offer a complimentary bus service, considering the cost of stopping there (why not, my local pubs do!!!).

In conclusion, The Sea Temple is a very nice resort but I think over priced for what you get. If you are after a chilled out, quite, out of the way location and don’t mind dropping some cash – this is the place for you. I on the other hand would rather stop in central Port Douglas, save some money and avoid the bus!!!

We just came back from our 5 days stay at one of the Studio room at Port Douglas and it was a wonderful stay. We were a little worried when we read some of the negative comments, but none happened to us except for the ants problem, it is tropical queensland that is what you expect, one night we even saw Tree Frog outside our room.

We went to the pool at 11pm, 4pm, 6pm on different days, and there were chairs avaiable, clean towel on the side, and not as crowded as some of the users have said - Nov may not be peak season? The only complaint would be some cocktail glasses on the pool side in the tree didn't get clean up by staff, again I don't understand why some of the guests there like to hide their cocktail glasses in the bush...

Checkin was speedy and staff was informative, we were given a bottle of complimentary wine as a "welcome gift" from the hotel. Nice touch! On our last day we asked for late check out and we were allowed to stay until 1pm.

As mentioned earlier, there were ants problems in the room, but apart from this issue, everything is clean and we could not be happier. We were given a room on the ground floor in the corner facing the path to the pool, not as dark as some mentioned, we got some sun in the morning.

The only down side would be the location, it is a long walk from the resort to town, and we did tried walking one afternoon, from the city side of Miles beach to the other side where Sea temple is, it took us 1.5 hours but we were walkin very slowly, I am sure you can walk to the city under an hour if u walk qucikly. There is also a shuttle that stops right outside the resort, comes at 25 and 55 past, $4.5 single, $8 return, $11 or 12 all day ticket and takes approx 10-15 mins to get to town. For us we hired a car on our first day and last day costed us only $67 (+10 petrol) from airport (10am) and drop off at port douglas (next day 10am),. Shuttle from aiport would easily cost us 35 each and the drive was easy and nice ocean view, only took 50 mins.

We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant, but we walked to the Shack for dinner one night (15 mins).

This hotel is fantastic! I stayed here for 12 nights and had booked a studio apartment but on arrival was upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment which had its own spa and bbq on the second level.

The apartment was fantastic - very clean, housekeeping did an excellent job. The kitchen was very large and the combination of the kitchen and the bbq meant that we could cook in the apartment which saved us quite a bit of money as the restaurants in Port Douglas are a little pricey, especially for 12 nights. In saying that, the resort is far from town (definately not walking distance) however the local shuttle collects you from the hotel and takes you into town. 4 mile beach is walking distance (as the hotel has its own access) and there is a good fish and chip shop there, a bottle shop etc.

The pool is amazing!! Extremely clean - the pool cleaners were there every second day (but you probably wouldn't even notice them). We were after a relaxing holiday and headed down to the pool around 9/10 and spent the day on the recliners reading, swimming, drinking cocktails. The pool bar can get a little busy but the cocktails and food were great and the service was really good at the pool. There are not as many recliners/lounges as I thought there should have been and you did have to go down at 10 to guarantee you got one. More recliners could fit in the area and I would recommend Sea Temple put more in.

We had continental breakfast included which I thought was fantastic! Good quality fruits, meats, pastries etc. Service was a little slow in serving tea and coffee to each table though. I don't know if I would pay for breakfast if it wasn't included if you had kitchen facilities though as the standard price was expensive, although nothing in excess of the other hotels in the area.

We saw many of the hotels in the area and Sea Temple was one of the newest and the best! I think to be further away from Port Douglas at Sea Temple is worth it. I will definately be returning.

We booked on line and expected a room on the first floor over looking the golf course as was confirmed by telephone. When we arrived we were given a ground floor room with direct access to the pool. Breakfast was usual fare however they did have a chef stationed at a stove to cook omelettes if required. We'd planned to do so many tours but ended up just relaxing by the magnificent pool all day every day. We hired our own car so we went into Port Douglas every night for dinner. Staff were great and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great place to relax. Good for families with young kids too.

We stayed for 6 nights in a 2 bedroom swimout apartment. These are certainly the pick of the bunch and ours was off the children's wading pool which was a plus for us as we weren't dropping into deep water from our verandah.
Apartment was very quiet and well-appointed with the exception of the kitchen.
We certainly concur with one other reviewer regarding the restaurant breakfast - it was as sorry a sight as I have ever seen in accommodation of this standard. Poor selection on the buffet - eggs/omelettes could be had from the "kitchen" in the corner - but these looked dismal as well.
We decided to cook our own breakfast, however no non-stick frypan or egg slice in the kitchen - poor selection of cooking utensils.
We ate dinner one night in the restaurant - it was ok but overpriced and not very well presented.
Service at the Pool Bar was not up to speed - one afternoon one poor staff member was endeavouring to serve cocktails to about 8 guests all of whom seemed to be ordering for a party of people - not good enough.
However in saying all this, the staff were very accommodating, and the resort itself is just lovely - service and cleanliness in the rooms was great and we did have a most enjoyable time. Perhaps the management just need to take note of the Tripadvisor comments.
