Would recommend Oaks Lagoon to anyone. The rooms were very spacious and clean. Staff were very helpful and polite and would go out of their way to help any way they could. Even though it was a little way out of the town it was very convenient to all of the attractions around the town.It was the first time my wife and I have been to Port Douglas and we are planning another trip to area.Would recommend to anyone to stay at Oaks Lagoon.

We are pleased to read you enjoyed your time in Port Douglas and thank you for taking the time to submit a review. Our staff do love to help guests get the most from their limited time here and share what ideas and tips that may be of interest to our guests. Yes all tours to major attractions do provide pickups from the resort and many of our regular guests enjoy the lovely walk along 4 mile beach or taking advantage of the flat terrain of Port Douglas to do something different on their holidays and use a bicycle to get around. We would love to have you back again for your next planned trip to Port Douglas.

We stayed at the Oaks Lagoon for a week. I had low expectations as our group buy deal was so cheap - $600 for 7 nights. The one bedroom swim up room was huge with a great kitchen. Every thing was very clean on our arrival.

Yes the location is away from the main town centre, but it is only 4km away. We hired bikes for the week and cycled every where. There is also the option of cycling to town on the beach, a great way to start the day. Walking only takes 45 minutes.

The Oaks almost scored 4 star from us but there were just a few too many issues that let it down. The bedroom blinds are inadequate to keep out light (the bed was thankfully very comfortable). The bathroom is large but disappointingly had no bathtub even though there is plenty of space for one. There are very few cooking utensils and even less cleaning products. We did our best to keep the place tidy, but suggest some cleaning cloths and bench detergent would have really helped us out. As mentioned by others the couch is very uncomfortable.

My biggest gripe was the pool. Our apartment was advertised as swim up, but the water was freezing. There are multiple pools in the complex, only one of which was heated. We were disappointed not to be able to enjoy the swim up aspect of our room. Only heating one pool creates a two tier system, as obviously, some miss out.

In conclusion, large, great value rooms. Heating all the pools would see us returning again.

Thank you for your review of the Oaks Lagoons. I am pleased to read you found the resort excellent value for the deal you purchased and overall enjoyed your holiday. I acknowledge your concerns about the pool temperature and we are working towards a better solution. Three of our pools are on the ‘sunny side’ which are generally warmer and this year we heated one of the other pools. Based on the success of heating this pool I will be putting forward to the owners to heat the other 2 pools that don’t receive as much sun. I would be interested to know what other utensils would have been helpful so I would welcome a call or e-mail so I can look into that further. Thank you for staying with us, I hope on your next visit you find the temperature of the pools more to your liking.

Noeline, Thank you for sharing your thought about our property on Trip Advisor. We are pleased you have a lovely peaceful and relaxing break in the tropical north. Our 2 bedroom apartments are fabulous for couples travelling together as you each have your own private areas to retreat to and your own bathrooms. Makes all the difference. Please continue to spread the word and we hope to welcome you back again for another stay one day.

we booked a swimout apartment, stayed for 6 nights. The apartment we were given didn't get any sun and pool was cold. We asked if we could move to another apartment on the sunny side, the brilliant ladies in reception managed to move us after 2 days. The new apartment had all day sun and the swimout pool was lovely and warm. The only problem we had was the kitchen could do with a restocked, wasn't enough china or cultery, many thanks to the all the receptionist staff they are the best.

Room Tip: book a room facing north for the sun in the winter months

Thanks Laurice for your feedback and taking the time to submit a review. Delighted to hear you enjoyed our resort pools. With our properties layout there is always a quite spot that can be found amongst our six pools. Sound like our reception staff resolved your requests which is something we are always happy to do. Always best to raise concerns so they can be addressed when you are here rather than providing feedback at the end of your stay or after, when it is something that could be resolved on the spot. Hope to have you back again for another tropical vacation soon.

We have just returned from 9 nights at Oaks Lagoons. Our first impression was it was a great sized apartment for a 1 bedroom and it was definitely worth paying the extra to ensure the sunny side of the building. Having the swim out was fantastic and we were lucky enough to have one of the more private corner swim outs. We didn't pay extra to have the beds changed but on day 5 we came back to find the bed had been changed and fresh towels had been left which was nice.

On the negative side was the pots, pans etc in the kitchen were very limited and it's a good job I didn't cook as there was not a pot big enough to cook anything in.

In bed one night we looked up to see that the fans were all warped then we realized that all the fans had stockings on them and most of them were ripped with holes in them. Not sure what the purpose of this is.

The couch was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever sat on but the bed was extremely comfortable.

The cleaner only cleaned where they could reach as the mirrors in the bedroom were only cleaned three quarters of the way up then filthy. There was a thick layer of dust on bedside lamps and right across the back of the bed head.

Seeing that we had an apartment on the car park side of the building the bedroom window definitely needs an extra curtain on it as unless you go to bed after midnight then the bedroom is lit up like a Xmas tree from the lights outside. Also the bedside tables were very chipped and shabby.

In general if this was a car then you would say it needs a damn good detailing.

The reception lady that we encountered every day named Krystal was a total misery guts. She answered all my questions but she couldn't crack a smile and had no warmth or friendliness and would be better suited to the back office. The lady who served us when we were checking out was beautiful and bubbly.

Free half hour wifi was a complete waste of time as our room was too far away from the lobby.

The shame of all this is that I have read the same comments in dozens of previous reviews and Oaks seem to have done nothing to remedy any of the complaints.

Thanks Laura for taking the time to provide us with this feedback. I am pleased to read you enjoyed the large swim out apartment. In relation to some of the other matters you mentioned, whilst the 20cm pot is the largest we have in the rooms, we do have an extra big one at reception for those extra large family gatherings available on request. Your unit had ‘fan sleeves’ fitted as a trial and I think your feedback has brought the trial to its conclusion. I have spoken to our housekeeper about some of the other concerns raised and these will be brought to the attention of our cleaning staff. We are constantly training our staff so your feedback is always appreciated to help us maintain our standards. Your comments inconsistency of service at reception has been noted and is being addressed. We have 5 WIFI hotspots around the property and signal strength is generally better on the room balcony. We are still working to improve the speed of our WIFI. Thanks for staying with us; we hope you will again have the opportunity to visit us and Port Douglas again soon.

Don't normally post a bad review unless there is more than at least 2 serious disappointments during a stay...this place had several.

Booked the hotel spa room. Photos on their website looked fantastic - beautiful private balcony with your very own spa.... to our dismay this hotel was lacking.

Firstly, we arrived early, about 11:30AM so we understood that the room may not be ready, which it wasn't so they recommended we a walk around town and they would ring us when the room was ready. Got no phone call so waiting until 2:00PM to go back, there was no acknowledgement that we were waiting for a call, just a "oh yep your room's ready here's your key do you know where it is?"... What a clever question, how would I know???
There are many rooms and apartments at this hotel and it didn't look too busy but we got plonked in the very first room, in the very first building next to reception (that was probably just unlucky). The balconies are not private, there is a steel slat type divider between your balcony and the neighbour's which doesn't go all the way to the ceiling - plus it's steel slats so you can hear and see everything - bit uncomfortable, so much for a private spa bath.

No hotel facilities such as room service. Called reception because the Foxtel (cable TV) channels were fuzzier than the old analogue TVs - her reply: "Sounds like a technical fault but our maintenance guy has finished for the day, how long are you staying for?" Me: "1 night"... Reception: "Yeh well sorry I can't help you."
Lovely...
I've worked in customer service for years and all a customer wants is to see at least an attempt to rectify a problem/complaint.

In addition to that there was just a bunch of little things that could make a difference, e.g. filling up the water jug in the fridge and ice tray so we can have a cold glass of water upon our arrival, this is the tropics.

Plus it's been nearly 1 week and the $150 security deposit still hasn't been refunded back to my debit card.
Maybe we were unlucky with the unhelpful staff, but we definitely won't be coming back, there are so many other options in Port Douglas - we recommend you seek out another

Your comments concerning inconsistency of service at reception and has been addressed with the person involved. Firstly regarding Foxtel, we are awaiting an upgrade by Foxtel for our system to be able to deliver the signal to the rooms in digital quality. Presently it is only available as analogue. In reference to a jug of water and ice cubes, it is from a WH&S perspective (unsealed food/drink) that we are unable to leave these items in a fridge for a guest’s arrival. We do offer a chilled water fountain in the foyer adjacent the reception counter which does get a lot of use. If you are still experiencing issues with the release of the pre-authorisation by your bank, let us know and we can send a fax requesting this to occur and give you a copy of the faxed confirmation for your reference. I am sorry these matters became issues for you however I hope you will give us an opportunity to better look after you on your next visit to Port Douglas.

When we checked in they had lost our booking, after awhile they found it and up graded us at no extra charge. Whilst the room was large it was tired and lacking in a good clean. The bare minimum was provided ie one wash of kitchen detergent, one role of toilet paper, the basics! One of the girls at reception could barely find the time to help, the other lady was lovely and was more than helpful. You were provided with 1/2 hour of free slow wifi a day. Anything else that you required ie a clean beach towel or a print out from the computer came with a charge. I know that places need to watch their costs but the Oaks became rediculous.

Thank you for providing feedback on your stay. Without knowing more about your booking I am unable to specifically explain what the mix up with your booking was. Sometimes the paperwork is not printed out in advance for same day bookings, but this should not take long to sort out once the booking details are checked. As explained in the arrival information, we only provide a stater pack for our guests as is common practise with most apartment style properties. We are not full service, and communicate this through all websites and with all our agents. Rather than putting up rates to cover unlimited usage, guest only pay for what they use. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoyed the rest of what Port Douglas and the tropical north had to offer whilst you were here.
