We stayed for two nights to celebrate our anniversary in a 1 bedroom apartment last weekend after winning a lucky door prize. While it took a bit of adjusting to the new decor (think Gidget, 1950s) we soon warmed to the kitch and relaxed in the peaceful tropical surroundings. The spa jets in the lilly-filled stream outside our room were a nice touch and the curious resident peacock came to visit as we ate and drank on the verandah, adding to the atmosphere. The kitchen facilities in the room made it easy to take along and enjoy our own home-made tapas platter. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the cocktails and woodfired pizzas at Estillo delicious and the breakfast at Bazaar also worth returning for. It's an easy walk to a more secluded section of Four Mile Beach and the resort's own pool, with its large day beds was an equally cool place to chill out. There's regular bus services into town and good gym/tennis facilities - but of course we couldn't help but do nothing. I was disappointed there was no bath but the hot and strong shower big enough for two definitely made up for it. We didn't want to go home and would definitely book in again.

Room Tip: Away from the pool will guarantee a peaceful night and a good sleep in.

Dear Reefnoutback,

Another anniversary stay! How wonderful :) You also got to meet Katy Perry, our resident peacock! He's very fun and certainly not shy of a sniff or a chat!

Thanks for the lovely comments about the rooms, service and food. We are delighted that you got the chance to enjoy them all.

We would love to take care of you again.

We recently stayed at the newly refurbished and rebranded QT Port Douglas after a recommendation from a friend, taking advantage of a special deal.

The main hotel area is light, airy and open from the moment you enter, a refreshing change from stepping into most other hotel lobbies.

Our 1br garden view apartment was very spacious and fresh looking with its simple and pleasant decor. The only downside was the need to leave the air con on all the time in the room; the sliding doors lacked screens to take advantage of any refreshing breezes without insects entering. However this would not be enough to deter a future stay.

The Bazaar restaurant is an interesting market-like concept. Apart from the great buffet selection offering dishes from all over the world, guests are able to ask the chefs to freshly prepare selected meals which are then brought to your table. Here's the interesting part ... we were seated somewhere in the restaurant and there are no table numbers visible. I asked one of the service staff "I'd like a tasting plate for two please" and indicated we were seated "over there". After a short wait (he mentioned roughly how long) he appeared at the table with the order. Now that's impressive service!

The steaks we ordered one night were beautifully cooked as requested and very tasty.

The winelist features a diverse selection from all over the world. The ones we tried were excellent and well priced both by the glass and by the bottle.

The service from the wait staff was wonderful. They were young and showed great enthusiasm for their work, quietly rushing around performing their duties, attending tables with a genuine smile, engaging in conversation if we so wished. We had a great time chatting with several of the staff who made us feel like we were old friends. Given that we are probably old enough to be their parents, this was refreshing, entertaining and fun!

We were extremely pleased with our stay at QT and would definitely return to this property if circumstances permit. We've even been made curious to check out other QT properties, such is the impression the rebranding has left on us!

Room Tip: If you want privacy choose a garden view room. The rooms facing the pool are very close to the pool.

Dear BeanThereToo,

You sound like people after my own heart! Lovers of good coffee and great resorts, both of which are found at QT Port Douglas.

Wow! Your restaurant service story is one for sore ears! The way that we work the marketplace with the free flowing dining experience and a very laid back feel to the service means that we really have to be on our toes from the service side of things, and this story reaffirms that we are absolutely on the money here!

We are delighted that you were pleased with your stay, and even happier that you are going to come and visit us again.

My husband, myself and our 2 1/2 year old little girl have just spent 10 blissful days at the QT Port Douglas. Where to begin? Upon arrival the hotel immediately emanates a tropical holiday atmosphere and the staff/management at reception greeted us with friendly and totally helpful attitudes. We had organised for our groceries to be delivered to the hotel; these happened to arrive before we did and the staff took it upon themselves to take them to our room and put all refrigerated items in the fridge for us! So thoughtful and considerate!
We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment which was perfect for our needs. The rooms are all painted white with stylish furniture, modern bathrooms and are very clean. The kitchenette served us well over the 10 days allowing us to cook a few dinners and lunches in our apartment.
The pool area at this hotel is FANTASTIC (photos on their website do not do it justice as its a lot bigger than it looks). So many deck chairs with umbrellas and also 3 huge lounge pods with shelter which we managed to grab on a few occasions. The pool is no deeper than 1.25 mts and with lots of really shallow lagoon type areas which was fantastic with a toddler. The pool bar.....well where to begin (ha ha).....drinks including cocktails are delivered directly to your deck chair (try their jugs of punch!). Food is also available and we ordered their "sliders" which are mini burgers with fries for $6!!..... Very reasonably priced.
The buffet breakfast in Bazzar restaurant was fantastic. A variety of fresh juices, smoothies, fruit shots, hot and cold breakfast items including omllets made to order by the chef. All of the food was very fresh and delicious. The staff at breakfast were gorgeous in particualy Naami a lovely lady who greeted us each morning and took the time to interact with our daughter and really go out of her way to make sure we were having a great time! Another great attraction is the pond running around the restaurant full of fish and a couple of eels which Dean the caretaker feeds each morning and he lets the kids help which is a real novelty and treat for them.
Now.....dinner at Bazzar......FANTASTIC!!!...... The buffet dinner they have is $65 per person + drinks but TOTALLY worth it. A myriad of different foods are on offer from seafood, salads, cold pressed hams and cheeses, stir frys, wood fired pizza, and also a selection of dishes cooked fresh from the chefs including a delicious tasting plate and steaks cooked to our liking..... all this topped off with dozens of desserts to choose from. We literally rolled out of there. There is a more casual dining restaurant/bar called Estilo which does wood fired pizza, salads etc which we did a few nights for dinner. They will also deliver these to your room if need be.
The location of QT is along Port Douglas Road so not walking distance to Maccrossan St, however there is a shuttle bus which pulls us at reception every 20 minutes and runs all night into Maccrossan St and back for $4 one way. We never felt dissappointed to be out of the main street, infact I'm not sure why people would pay a premium to stay closer. On a Sunday there is a steam train that runs into the Marina where the market is held and there is a train station at QT......
As far as things for the kids, there is no playground on site, however the resort next door (a 2 minute walk) has a great playground which we were allowed to use.
The only thing I could say that would improve this resort is possibly a communal BBQ area......but apart from that we cannot fault QT in any way and would return there in a heartbeat!!..... We had an awesome time!!......

Dear Kiara W,

Now that is one of the most comprehensive and glowing reviews that I have ever had the pleasure of reading! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience at QT with both the resort and your fellow Trip Advisor reviewers.

I love that you loved everything! You are so enthusiastic about us! 10 days at QT Port Douglas is maybe something that everyone needs to do if they come us as gorgeous and positive as you sound in that review.

Communal BBQ area! Now that's a great idea. I don't know if we'd get council approval for it, but maybe it is something we could offer by the pool? We will check it out!

Thanks so much again.

This is our second time at this place, but the first after the move from Rydges to QT and the renovations. The new room designs are now very modern and the extended bar with deck was a great move. It's truly a great place to stay. The pool area is still able to entertain our daughter with the different levels and the toys floating around, and for us the pool bar provided us with a great place to relax and chat with others. Not only did we stay at QT for 8 nights, we also had our wedding reception there, so you can see that we really trusted QT to look after us. It's the little things I appreciate during my leave, the bar staff remembered our names and room number, the room has been cleaned every day and the reception was very helpful to organise all the wedding guests for us. If you think about a wedding in Port Douglas, I can only say that QT is a great place for a reception or for your guests to stay, the hotel pool bar was our main point for our guests prior and after the wedding to meet and relax. I recommend QT to everyone!

Room Tip: With a very active 3 year old, I would always choose a garden view apartment, I just don't like...

Dear CYMelbourne,

Fun!!!! A wedding reception and a holiday. Sounds like an absolute dream to me. Reading all of these wonderful holiday reviews of our resort lets me know that it's almost time for me to book into the resort for a good relax of my own or I'm going to start getting too envious of these wonderful holidays everyone is having!

Now, back to the review, we love that you had a wonderful time, and I tend to agree with you on the Garden view when you have a little runaway rugrat :) Peace of mind is a wonderful thing!

We hope to see you again soonest. Maybe for your first anniversary!

Having a great stay. Great room, comfortable bed, great pool, great breakfast. Check out the omlettes. They really need to do something about a good free wifi service for guests. Bar food is ok but not excellent. Would recommend. Qt have done good things here.

Dear HeatherH66,

Thanks so much for your lovely review. Sounds like you got to experience everything that QT has on offer.

Isn't Bazaar a wonderful place! There are so many treats there that I think you could eat every meal there for a week and still be discovering new dishes.

The shuttle is an awesome addition to the hotel. It makes such a big difference to be able to have a private driver to take you to and from your sightseeing!

We would love to take care of you again soon,

A lovely hotel, excellent service and food, the breakfast had an excellent variety and I loved the interesting fresh juices and smoothies (different combos every day). The best thing for me was the beds very comfortable, the best hotel bed I have ever slept in. The Bazzar Restaurant buffet dinner is good value for money especially if you like seafood, great oysters, crab, prawns etc and many other dishes cooked to order. It is just our of town but a shuttle bus runs every 30 minutes so it is very convenient. The restaurants in Port Douglas are excellent but you must book ahead.

Not the best location, we had to bus it in and out of town, but overall as far as accommodation and service it was great. We loved the bar, very beachy, hip and a great vibe. The bar staff are wonderful and know how to mix a mean drink. Front desk staff were helpful in all aspects of town and tours.
10 points for the quirky uniforms a real change from the stiff collars.

Room Tip: Ask for a room further away from thew pool if you want a bit of a sleep in

Dear brooke a,

Sounds like you had an awesome time at the QT! The fresh uniforms really take the edge off the usual resort experience don't they? It seems to really pump up the staff too and help them to immerse themselves in the QT persona while they are taking care of you.

Great tip on the poolside rooms. I'm sure it can very joyful in there with the kids on a hot summer morning!

I'll pass your thumbs up onto the bar staff for their great mixing skills. They are really on their game.

Hope to see you again soon.
