The service was outstanding, and i loved the quirky decor and the top quality food. The room was very clean but I thought it was a little bit basic considering the cost was quite high. That said, i would still happily return to the QT Port Douglas - there's not much on offer in Port Douglas by way of high quality accommodation at a reasonable price, and i think the QT is the only property that comes close. Special mention to Carolyn at the front desk who was very polite, friendly and helpful.

Firstly the good points.
The staff are professionally friendly, so they were excited and said "wonderful" whenever I ordered a coffee, but it didn't always ring true. Maybe a bit understaffed at times, but this is the tropics and there was no hurry anyway.
Our room was very comfortable and clean.
The buffet dinner was extensive and tasty.
Estilo's bar was relaxed and happy (but I wish it wasn't closed so often for functions0

The breakfasts had excellent juices, fresh fruit and a big buffet of luke warm everything you could want, but here's the big tip. Ask the genuinely friendly staff behind the servery to make you an omelette and to heat up the bacon a bit, and ... delicious. Watching a big bowl of cold fried eggs being dropped onto another big bowl of them quite put me off until I discovered that trick.

I don't usually go to resorts so maybe I'm not the best judge, but this place only got 4 stars because I can't award 3.75.

From the moment we walked in until the moment we left we were afforded great customer service from the staff. The chefs at dinner were great in creating food that suited our dietary needs and nothing was too much trouble and the amazing pavlova to finish the meal was yummmmmmmmm.
If I could have fitted the bed into my suitcase I would have taken it home. Our stay was booked as a treat to finish a holiday and it didn't disappoint in any way. Thanks to all at QT it was magic.

We stayed at the QT Port Douglas last week as I managed to get a 'Wot Hotel' deal from the Wotif.com website, saving us a fair bit of money as rooms at this resort are reasonably pricey. They have put a great amount of effort into their presentation - from the main road your eyes are drawn in to the reception area and beyond as it looks really funky and classy - the kind of place you look forward to staying at.
Upon entry, the reception staff greeted us with great eye contact and a smile. They do have a bit of a laid back, relaxed attitude (while still being professional) which adds to the holiday feeling.
The rooms are great - spacious, clean and all the amenities you need. Actually, we did need a toaster at one point and needed to call reception twice to get it which wasn't ideal, but on the second call our toaster was delivered very quickly.
The shuttle bus services operated by a couple of different companies stop by every 20 minutes or so (roughly) and is very convenient - roughly $5 per person each way into/out of town which is great if you don't have a car. You can also make use of the QT's free bicycle hire from the fitness centre although be aware they have a rule about a 3 hour hire, I guess to be considerate to other guests that may want to make use of the bikes which is understandable however a little inconvenient should you want the bikes for more time.
The lounges around the pool area are lovely and comfy and the hotel provides beach towels for you to take poolside. The poolside bar opens around midday which serves delicious food - we loved the mini burgers and highly recommend! If you want to have any desserts or ice-cream throughout your stay, make sure you bring it in and keep in your little bar fridge in your room as there are no desserts on the menus (including room service menu) and no ice creams available.
Staff are helpful, relaxed yet professional and the general vibe of the hotel is great.

The QT hotel has a nice vibe, and caters more for a younger, trendier market. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is reasonable, and the facilities aren't bad.

But it's just not enough. There's a casual indifference from all the members of staff, from the moment you check in until the day you leave. It's a resort hotel that doesn't really want to pamper you. During our stay, a wedding was held on site, for which guests were told the restaurant would be closed for the night. Is that acceptable for a resort hotel? Effectively, guests were offered room service or bar food. It was a little like being told to clear off for the night. If that didn't get you, the loud base from the party in the bar pulsing through the floor probably drove any stragglers away (or mad).

The rooms are comfortable and clean. We didn't have a bath, and we were on the ground floor (so a big hello to the lady in the room above who CLEARLY loved to walk around incessantly in her high heels.) The hotel turns facilities on and off according to the level of trade. The poolside bar is sometimes open, for example, but if you decide to sit there when the sun's not shining, you'll have no way to get food or drink. The pool was cleaned once during my visit. Although I quite enjoyed picking the flora and fauna out of the water, other guests may have objected, I should imagine.

The buffet-style breakfast and dinner are OK, but over-priced by most standards. Unforgivably, the hotel uses masses of farm eggs each day. If you're going for a cool, young vibe, then you need to show your eco-credentials - free range eggs only please. $65 for the evening meal per head isn't extortionate by hotel standards, but the food is just OK, and the staff members aren't exactly friendly and welcoming.

A massage in the spa was nice, although it seemed difficult to get an appointment. Again, this isn't really what you expect from a resort hotel.

I left the QT relaxed and happy from a good holiday. It was a good base for us, and there was nothing really bad about it - but then there was nothing really good either. This is a 3-star hotel at best and I'm not sure that was enough for me.
