“The best in Port Douglas!”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

There is no doubt Salsa is the top restaurant in Port Douglas. We have been going there for the past 6 years during our visits to PD and the standard is always top notch! The staff are totally dedicated and service amazing. The food is incredible! My last lunch was a home made pasta with crayfish.....mmmmmm SO YUMMY. Once upon a time I would have said Salsa was pretty expensive, but there are some much more expensive (and not as good) restaurants in PD now. YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO BOOK ahead! ENJOY :-)

“Disappointed given the hype”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

We were really looking forward to this having read all the reviews but it didn't live up to expectations. When we rang to book a day ahead we were told we couldn't eat til 'really late' which turned out to be 8:30pm. Having been in Australia for 2 weeks by this point we know that this is late by Aussie standards but is positively early when you are used to eating out in Mediterranean countries, so no problem for us. When we arrived we were greeted with 'Table for 2?' and no suggestion we would need to have a reservation. So the secret is obviously to go 'late' and you should have no problem getting in.

We had a myriad of different waitresses during our meal and must have been asked three times by three different waitresses if we wanted to order drinks. The place was buzzy and had a nice atmosphere. I had the duck confit which was good but my husband's seared tuna was very disappointing. The fish itself was beautifully cooked but it was served in a 'mushroom vichysoisse' i.e. sauce. First of all the sauce was cold so my husband asked if this was intentional, told no and so a replacement was brought which was hot. But we discovered there is a reason why you never see fish and mushrooms together on a menu and that's because they just don't go! The flavour was much too strong for a delicate fish. Looking at the menu as a whole it did seem as if the chef was just experimenting with flavours and whilst some of them might work, others definitely wouldn't. We're not averse to unusual combinations (having eaten at the Fat Duck and enjoyed Heston's experiments) but this was not up to that standard of cooking - and, in fairness, not priced at that level.

When we got the bill, although we hadn't asked for it, a reduction had been made for having to send back the first cold meal which we appreciated.

We wouldn't rush to go back and had a much better meal the following night elsewhere in Port Douglas.

“A most pleasant evening”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

This is a class restaurant, the food, staff and venue all support this.
It is not the place to go to get a "cheap feed". We come back at least once every year for many years.
Be sure to book !

“Wonderul Dining Experience”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

I had read the great reviews for this restaurant before going on holiday to Port Douglas so booked well in advance to ensure getting a reservation on my evening of choice. All in all it was an excellent dining experience. The location is great being close to the Esplanade, the decor very tasteful, the waitress amazed us with her professionalism and attention to detail. Best of all though was the food. I had the superb yabby linguini and a chocolate souffle and my husband had steak and then cheese cake. The flavors and presentation were amazing and the wine list quite extensive. It was a meal we won't forget.
