We visited Salsa on a recommendation and as recommended we booked weeks in advance which proved to be a god call as the restaurant wasn’t taking any more bookings. Saying that it seemed only 3/4full whilst we were there (7-9pm). The food was very good, but I guess with all the hype we expected something extraordinary. Please don’t get me wrong - the food was very good, but not to the extreme of some reviews. The service was good, but a little rushed, it felt like we had to make a decision constantly, like being asked to order a drink before finishing the one we had. With its relaxed interior and a great location, we wanted to have a nice dinner at our own pace and not being hassled constantly. There was one other item during the service which I didn’t think would be a norm at a restaurant of this caliber, and that was not having your glass of wine poured at the table when you ordered wine by the glass. You ordered a glass and someone just brought a glass full of wine to your table. Wine selection was very good and the prices were not budget prices either -I would at least expect to see the wine I ordered being poured into my glass.
However - overall it’s still probably one of the better restaurants in Port Douglas, but maybe missing a bit of that spark everyone raves about who visited in the last few years.
