The atmosphere here was great. The lights and outdoor courtyard area made for a really romantic dinner for our wedding anniversary. Excellent food and warm friendly service. It's not cheap here but it's worth it.

Visited here as a family friend used to own the place in the 1970s. Its reputation hasn't quite been upheld, just as most of the hotels in port D. The setting is wonderful, makes a change from roadside alfresco that harnesses most of port douglas. The food is similarly very tasty and well presented. However the portions are miniscule and bizarrely very expensive for such quantities. Now I don't over eat so I was content with a small starter and unaccompanied main but I would suggest that most would like to order a side with there main and this will rack of the cost. Cocktails pricey too. Staff friendly and attentive. Although we were made to wait for a table for a good ten minutes (I imagine to encourage us to purchase a cocktail) when there were AT LEAST 15 tables free. Not impressed my that ploy. Overall I would recommend as the food is at the end of the day what you go for and it was delicious. But order a fair bit if I were you.

Have promised to go there for several years and were not disappointed with this hidden gem. The food was excellent off a varied menu. The setting in the trees with the lights and canopy was so relaxing and every customer seemed to be enjoying a long relaxing evening. The staff were attentive but unobtrusive as well as knowledgable about the restaurant and the fare. The wine list was well thought out. There is a picture of the Clintons having dinner there....must be good for them to travel to far North Queensland for the experience!

Nautilus is located in a magical rainforest setting right in the heart of Port Douglas. There are two entries to the restaurant - one from Murphy St where we parked and walked down a few steps, past the kitchen (the chefs said "hello" as we walked past) to the reception desk. The other entry is from Macrossan St where you walk uphill along a gravel path and some steps to the other end of the restaurant.

The setting is wonderful, outside and with the rainforest trees lit up. We noticed that the restaurant was not as noisy as others because it has no walls or ceiling for the noise to bounce off. There was a healthy buzz but we could actually have a conversation.

We had two wait staff looking after us, one taking our orders and generally making sure we had what we needed and the other bringing our food and explaining each dish. Unfortunately she spoke too quietly and had a strong accent so we couldn't hear or understand a number of the explanations. I usually have a good ear for accents but not this night.

The food was delicious especially the Nautilus Seafood Plate which was a tasting plate. The one scallop on the plate sits on a hot rock (not edible). The fritto misto was the best.

Recommended for a special occasion.
