“A great place in Port Douglas”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

We spent three nights at this lovely bed and breakfast . Very comfortable , neat and quite. Location is perfect , just a minute away from the beach. Breakfast is rich continental with lots of great , fresh tropical fruits. The only negative is that wifi , although not committed , is not really working despite the various " tricks" tried by the owners. For the price paid , a working internet could be easily included without a real burden to the owners.

Room Tip: If you need wifi check first that you really get reception.

We spent the first leg of our trip at this picturesque B&B, celebrating our first wedding anniversary. The setting is wonderful, just a few minutes walk across a park to Four Mile Beach which you can walk along for about half an hour to get to Port Douglas town.

Our room was great, lovely balcony overlooking the pool area, spacious bathroom and you could access it without going through the main house. We loved how the design of the house allowed it to be open plan but private at the same time.

From the first time I emailed Leona she was wonderfully helpful, recommending things to do in the area. We were originally only planning to stay two or three nights but when we realised how much there was to do we decided to stay five nights instead and we're so glad that we did! When I spoke to Leona regarding our arrival time (our flight from Perth landed at 4am) she was really accommodating and said we could check in whenever as they like to always leave at least a day between guests.

Breakfasts were fantastic, freshly baked bread, home made jams, cereals and lots of tropical fruit and yoghurt. It was a pleasure to sit by the sparkling pool in the mornings chatting about the headlines and our plans for the day with Bob.

During our time here we visited Port Douglas Wildlife Habitat and had Breakfast with the Birds, went up to Kuranda on the Skyrail and back on the train, had our first diving experience with Blue Dive on the boat Calypso, drove up to Daintree and Cape Tribulation and spent a day relaxing by the pool and walking to Port Douglas markets. Leona advised us of the best places to stop on our trips and had lots of maps and information to hand.

All in all we were sad to leave for our drive down to Airlie Beach, Bob and Leona were such wonderful hosts and really made our holiday. We'll definitely be back someday soon!

Frangipani isn't rated #1 for nothing. It's a beautiful and quiet retreat just a stone's throw from the beach. The courtyard pool is refreshing, the bedrooms are well appointed, and the hosts are gracious. We even got an orientation of the town by the owner! That has never happened. Breakfast is an amazing array of fresh tropical fruits, yogurt, cereal, toast and homemade jam. It is perfect in every way.

24 hours of planes. Time upside down. First days of 30 in Australia and New Zealand. It took two days for us to unwind and 45 days more to sort out the memories of the trip. The outstanding memory for both of us is Fragipani and Port Douglas. Leona and Bob were wonderful hosts. From breakfast to tour advise and booking they were spot on. If you are a walker this is a great spot. Beach restaurant zoo and residential areas are all walks. Thank you for the memories. One important advisory. Put sun screen on the back of your legs if you snorkel the reef.

Room Tip: Both rooms good

Can't say enough about this place but what really made it special were the innkeepers, Bob and Leona. When we arrived, Bob took us on a tour of the town. Then for dinner on two separate nights they drove us to town so we didn't need to worry about a designated driver. Every afternoon we would sit and drink wine and have cheese and bikkies with them in front of the pool, just chatting about what we had done for the day and life in general. There should be a tv sitcom made about them and the place.

We were fortunate to stay in Bob & Leona's villa in early October for 5 nights. Their hospitality mirrors that extended to the Bed & Breakfast guests. Always there to give advice on trips and restaurants, provide food starter packs for those of us on self catering.
Bob's tour of the best places to see in Port Douglas was especially useful to a Scot new to the area.
The whole Port Douglas experience was enhanced by their welcome and attention to making your stay memorable.
We will be back.

I stayed 3 nights at the Frangipani B&B in Port Douglas. Overall I really enjoyed my stay. Leona and Bob do all they can to make you feel like you are home. Bob is always happy to spend every morning having breaky with you and discussing all things Aussy! :^) I liked the breakfast every morning of fresh fruit, cereals, and toast. Bob even went for gluten free bread to accommodate my diet needs!!!

The rooms are comfy and well appointed and if you like the sound of birds in the morning, you are in for a treat. The three guest rooms overlook the courtyard and swimming pool which make you feel like you are in a rain forest. You can use a private entry to your room or enter through the main house. Leona is always welcoming. I spent a couple hours in the pool and it was very nice and peaceful. They also have bikes you can use on the beach.

Talking about the beach, the B&B is all of a 1 minute walk to the beach - very easy access. The beach was awesome to walk both in the morning and eve. The ocean was really nice to swim in and the sand is like powder. Awesome if you ask me.

I really liked the Port Douglas area. It has a little bit of everything for a nice holiday stay - shopping, good restaurants, nite life to boot - not crowded. It takes about an hour to drive to Port Douglas from the Cairns airport, but it is a really scenic drive. It is also close enough to easily take a rain forest tour or go up to Mossman gorge for a nice swim in a fresh water creek.

Overall I would recommend the Frangipani for those wanting a more personal experience when visiting Port Douglas - Bob and Leona are very nice hosts! Thanks for the great stay!

Room Tip: If you plan to go on any excursions during your stay at Frangipani, Leona is the person to talk too...
